Overview & Reviews
Mazda adds power to the MPV in the form of a 200-horsepower V6 engine governed by a five-speed automatic transmission, which is just what the doctor ordered for this previously underpowered minivan. The MPV also gains power-sliding doors, available 17-inch alloy wheels, traction control, an improved braking system and revised suspension tuning.
- Compact and maneuverable, confident handling manners, roll-down windows in sliding doors.
- Limited maximum cargo capacity, lacks some features found in the other minivans.

One of best cars Ive ever driven - 2002 Mazda MPV
By mazda_guy - November 12 - 2:00 amI bought this car a month ago. This is one of the best cars I ever had. Very quiet even at high speeds. At 80 MPH engine rev at only 2300 RPM. Plenty of power with 200 HP. Great acceleration.

So far, so good - 2002 Mazda MPV
By BacktoMinivan - November 7 - 10:00 amComing from a fully loaded V8 Explorer, I am missing some nice little features like puddle lamps, auto on/off lights, and, strangely, door lock button on passenger side. But overall, Im happy. Didnt want a minivan but this is a good compromise if you need one. Size-wise, it drives about the same as the Explorer, except without the bumpiness. I dont notice the power loss coming from a V8 too much. The air conditioner is already making a rattling noise, so Im hoping that turns out okay.

Mazda MPV - 2002 Mazda MPV
By indricothere - October 23 - 10:00 amI bought an 02 MPV and I thouroughly love it. Very nice styling,it is just the right size for kids. It drives and feels like a car, and is much more responsive than dodge, ford, chevrolet. It also is a good used deal, not as expensive as the pricier Honda, and Toyota with comparible options. The optional sliding doors have been perfect and very convient. The ES is nice with leather. I was most impressed with the second row seating options. I never thought I would enjoy a minvan however, I love this one.

A Winner! - 2002 Mazda MPV
By MPVer in Michigan - August 14 - 10:00 amDid my research. Honda was our second choice, but the interier was too boring and the vehicle was bigger than we needed/wanted. The MPV was the perfect fit. Size and features are very nice and the price very competive. I didnt want a van, but now I love it!

getting old, bought a mini-van. - 2002 Mazda MPV
By dadof2 - August 14 - 10:00 amHad planned on buying a Nissan "Quest" GLE, but the MPV ES blew it out of the water in all aspects except for the onboard entertainment system. Have been a loyal Nissan owner with (2) Pathfinder SEs and a "Hardbody" P/U, but the MPV has changed all that.

Not bad for a minivan - 2002 Mazda MPV
By khealy - July 27 - 2:00 amI dont really like minivans but I need to keep all of my toys out of the weather and away from thieves (skis, bikes, etc.). I was attracted to the MPV for its small size, adequate engine, 5-sp transmission and handling. I havet been disappointed with any of these features. The engine/trans work very well, even on high mountain passes. The handling is better than I have ever experienced in a minivan on twisty mtn roads. Its as fun as a minivan can get! Fuel economy is ranging from 20-23 mpg with most of my driving in suburbs and mountains. Much better than any of the SUVs I looked at.

Its great, dont hesitate - 2002 Mazda MPV
By Kevin in Seattle - July 27 - 2:00 amHave owned many cars and vans. Mazda might not be first brand to think of, but should be. Fold down seat (like Odyssey), styling, comfort (Im 6/3"), handling, RELIABILITY, not a single issue with any feature or accessory. I just added after market DVD player for kids. Fully loaded with all upgrades this is thousands less than competition. A great buy.

SUV? What is that? - 2002 Mazda MPV
By Denny - June 8 - 10:00 amWe bought our MPV last October after transporting a family of four around in a sedan and then a grand cherokee there is absolutely no comparison. No wonder minivans are so popular. Acceleration onto the highway is a rush. Handling and visibility are impeccable. The kids love the windows that roll down in the back and the option of side-by- slide depending on who is sitting next to them in the second row. And dont forget the fun option of flipping up the back hatch, flipping over the back seat and watching the kids games comfortably in your third row seat as you face the field. SUV vs. MPV? MPV wins hands-down.

New to the minivan - 2002 Mazda MPV
By prlamz - April 2 - 7:20 pmWe now have 600 miles on our new MPV and feel very good about our choice so far. We had planned on buying an Odyssey but, luckily, did not find one in time. We were a little anxious to drive a behemoth. The MPV feels like a car. It takes less place in our garage than the Volvo station wagon it replaces. The power of the engines makes us long for a manual transmission.

Zoom Zoom in this sporty mini-van - 2002 Mazda MPV
By Turp - March 27 - 10:00 amWe never considered a mini-van before. We were headed for a mini-SUV but got side tracked on mini-vans. This van is sporty . It is well designed and with alot of bang for the buck. It rides and handles great on a suspension that is sure and sporty while quietly soaking up the bumps. The engine is very quiet has very good power and torque. The interior has ample room and is nicely flexable. With this on the market why consider a 2WD suv.
