Overview & Reviews
Mazda adds power to the MPV in the form of a 200-horsepower V6 engine governed by a five-speed automatic transmission, which is just what the doctor ordered for this previously underpowered minivan. The MPV also gains power-sliding doors, available 17-inch alloy wheels, traction control, an improved braking system and revised suspension tuning.
- Compact and maneuverable, confident handling manners, roll-down windows in sliding doors.
- Limited maximum cargo capacity, lacks some features found in the other minivans.

Great for our needs - 2002 Mazda MPV
By ZoMan - March 23 - 2:00 amWe recently purchased a 2002 ES with leather, cd changer, tinted windows, roof rack, compass, and DVD system. We have put almost 2,500 miles on it so far, the wife and I and our 3 dogs love it.

Mazda scores a Grand Slam - 2002 Mazda MPV
By MPVguy - March 17 - 6:10 pmThis is the best van out there for the money when all the issues are factored... as long as you dont *have* to have a large van, which the MPV isnt. Best handling, best accelerating, best looking, imho.

Great Looking Ride - 2002 Mazda MPV
By Caroline - February 21 - 10:00 amIve had this vehicle about a month. It drives very well and handles much more like a car than a van. The van gets a lot of compliments for its styling and the features. I bought the LX with the luxury and security packages, roof rack, cassette, and rear step bumper. Overall, its a great, sporty mini-van.

Great Buy - 2002 Mazda MPV
By Iain - February 16 - 10:00 amAfter agonizing over which van to buy for weeks,it finally came down to the Honda or the Mazda. However the waiting list for a Honda and not being able to test drive it turned me off.Mazda with its 0% financing was a great insentive.I am not in the least bit sorry in my decision. The ride is as good as must cars and the handling is out of this world. It is tight with good exceleration.Having formerly owned a Chey Venture the MPV seems like a luxury car.None of those annoying little problems and noises that always seem to have the Venture in the shop all the time.To me it was a great buy for the price,

MPV ES - 2002 Mazda MPV
By edhughes - January 10 - 10:00 amIve had the vehicle for a couple of months now and I could not be happier. It great for the family and a little sportier than the larger vans on the market.

Zoomzoom indeed - 2002 Mazda MPV
By billlmckinley - January 10 - 10:00 amGenerally spirited, despite its "inferior" engine size. Marvelous handling--more like a touring car than a van. Extremely well laid-out interior, and a price thats unbeatable. A lot of bang for the buck. And the new one, with the larger engine, goes like a bat.

Best vehicle ever - 2002 Mazda MPV
By Curious Canadian - January 10 - 10:00 amIve had 2 Caravans before, and they dont come close. The MPV is great fun to drive. Great handling, performance, outward visibility. We took it on one long trip already. We drove all day without feeling it at all. The sound system helps the overall experience.

Great Little Van - 2002 Mazda MPV
By lal_clt - January 10 - 10:00 amI wanted a van for hauling stuff, not necessarily passengers, so I didnt need a huge van. The MPV is perfect! Its only 2 in. longer than my previous Volvo sedan, yet with the fold into the floor third row seats, it carries lots. The MPV handles beautifully, has a short turning radius, and is very comfortable. The 200 hp motor lets me go zoom-zoom all over town.

Best Value - 2002 Mazda MPV
By owr084 - January 10 - 10:00 amDefinite improvement over the 00/01 models - the new V-6 makes the MPV a true contender. Our ES came loaded with 4-Seasons, sunroof, CD Changer, bumper plate, roof rack, and foglights all for $28K (including tax, etc.). No other minivan came close in price or options (looked at Toyota, Chevrolet, Ford, and Honda). And, its fun to drive. Zoom-zoom-zoom

My wife likes it - 2002 Mazda MPV
By hbtexan - January 9 - 8:46 amI think Mazda has nailed the minivan design with this product. My wife and I debated an SUV (#1 contender was the 2001 Explorer for value, #2 was the Toyota Highlander but it was too expensive) vs. minivan. We test drove 2 Odys and were very unimpressed w/ them (this was a shock after all of the internet research). To make a long story short my wife thinks the MPV is VERY COOL, in the end for us this was the MPVs strongest feature.
