The MPV gets a facelift for 2004 that includes a new hood, headlamps, front fenders, grille, side skirts and alloy wheels. A rear air conditioner and four-wheel disc brakes are now standard.

Pros:
  • Compact and maneuverable, confident road manners, roll-down windows in the sliding doors.
Cons:
  • Lacks the passenger/cargo space and power found in competitors.

I have had the MPV for two years now. No issues whatsoever. Great van for the family. Great vehicule in the snow (I am Canadian). I am a "car guy" and have had many cars this is by far the best. Bottom line...if you are thinking of getting one Just get it! You wont regret it. Mazda has really improved , so much so that Ill be getting the Mazda 6.

  • Educated on Minivans! ~ Mazda MPV ~ - 2004 Mazda MPV

We 24 hour test drove ALL of the 2004 minivans available in our area. Toyota, Honda and Mazda were top ranking for us. The toyotas and hondas were very hard to find, as they are popular this year. The Nissan was a good van, but the queer interior was too much to get past. We eventually chose the Mazda MPV based on reliability, price and our test drive. We were overall more satisfied with the Mazda. Visabilty is much better that all the others and the overall drive was pleasing. We relied heavily on the Consumer Reports ratings for reliability. If you are "on the fence" we would definately recommend the Mazda MPV. Good Luck!

  • Bought new in 2004, now has 170,000 and going strong - 2004 Mazda MPV

I rarely give anything five stars but the service I have had on this vehicle deserves it. I bought my MPV brand new from the dealer and only had routine problems. My vehicle is approaching 170,000 miles and runs perfectly. We have maintained the exterior and interior of this vehicle. If the engine fails, I will buy a rebuilt engine, install it, and hope it lasts as long as the one now. I was recently at the dealer to have the air-bag replaced and a mechanic there said several owners bring their MPVs in for maintenance and have more than 250,000 miles on them. The only unexpected failure I had on this vehicle was last year when the sunroof leaked and I had to replace the seal.

the price value for money. we compared this with a Sienna, and we find there is a $7000 difference (incl the premium we have to pay to the dealer). Over all - very satisfactory.

  • Best Van for the Buck!!! - 2004 Mazda MPV
    By -

We bought this Van for $21,000 from the dealer brand new. We looked at the Odyssey, and Sienna first but couldnt justify the cost of those other vans. The MPV is stylish and the power sliding doors always gets comments and looks from bystanders! It also handles like a car much better than a camry or an accord!!!I love my MPV!!!Its also not as cumbersome as the other vans this is good since the wife drives it most of the time and it fits in compact spaces. We used to have an SUV before this and that felt like a truck.I highly recommend this van if you have a small family.

  • Good Quality - 2004 Mazda MPV

Overall the MPV is good quality but a very hard ride. Having struts instead of shocks makes a big difference in the ride. I get only 21mpg on the road and about 17 in town. The short wheel base also contributes to the harder ride. On a 10 scale I would give the MPV a 7

We have only had this MPV for 7 months but we love it. It was a great value with rebates at the time. It is right sized, has good performance, comfortable ride, and looks good. The transmission is the weak point as it does not shift smoothly. The 200 hp engine is good for its size and weight.

  • Great Bang for the Buck - 2004 Mazda MPV

Our MPV has been great. We saw it as the best blend of performance, handling, styling and utility available for the money. The only issues thus far have been a jerking in the transmission on occasion. My understanding is that Mazda is aware and that there is a fix. We just have to bring it in. Overall, no major complaints. Build quality is excellent. No rattles or squeaks even!

  • Great Van For the Value - 2004 Mazda MPV

My husband and I love this van! We have the ES model that has leather which is great for clean-ups w/the little ones. Drives very smoothly. Very fun to drive. 0% financing was also a great deal. Not as roomy as other vans, but works well enough for us.
