Took advantage of some dealer incentives such as $2500 rebate which made the deal! Nice styling, very clean, well laid out interior. Gets me where I want to go in comfort.

  • Typical Automatic Issues? - 1998 Mazda 626
    By -

Bottom line is I love the car. I must. Ive owned it for over 10 years, and am only now deciding to sell. But, transmission #3 is issuing signals, and the pre-cat went out years ago. The pre-cat triggers the chk eng light, then the light goes out in a couple of weeks. Not really an issue, just an annoyance. We also lost a lot of weather-stripping around the doors. I re-hung it. But I think it needs more than just an adhesive to really do the job. After two years, we also have two dash bulbs out. Makes it a pain to use the heater when you cant real the dial. But I still have the car, so it isnt all bad. A very fun car to drive, even with low power.

  • Time to trade it in I guess - 1999 Mazda 626
    By -

Im at 66,700 for this 1999 beauty, but I guess its time to trade her in. In the past year, Ive put over $1800 into the car, and Im nervous to continue driving her long distances, should something else go wrong. Its kind of like having an elderly cat or dog. You love them, but you know its just a matter of time. So, reluctantly, I will be saying goodbye to my sage-green gal, and hope that she finds another good home, swinging vents and all!

  • Another great Mazda - 1999 Mazda 626

This is my 6th 626 (1st one was in 79). In 175,000 miles only one problem - the heat gauge failed and had to replace the instrument cluster. At this point I get 28 - 31 mpg (with the 5-speed) and am driving 3000+ miles/month. The car still looks good, and like our others, I expect to drive it for 200,000+ miles. Still havent replaced a clutch, or anything other than normal maintenance. Wish my van was as reliable.

  • Problems - 2000 Mazda 626
    By -

I recently bought this used car in February 3rd, and I drove till the 5th and the car broke down. Having no Acceleration when i was driving and when i pulled up to the side trying to re-start the vehicle it wont start. So i brought it to the Mechanics to repair the problem, they found out that the "Fuel Pump" was broken. So I got it repair and drive it for another 3 days the same problem appear. So I think this is not a good car unless you want to have as a back up. Right now if the car is fix, Im still worry about driving this car around. Its like wasting money to buy a car that cannot drive.

  • what a deal - 1998 Mazda 626

bought 6 months ago from private seller. 1998 ES-V6 5 speed manual, 60k miles. have put 20,000 more on it since, have had no problems whatsover. It is quite fast, i guess about 7.5 seconds to 60mph. runs right with preludes, eclipses, other little 4 cylinders... great fun. the only ford parts i see are the cruise control, and some minor engine control systems. no big deal. dont know about manual tranny, but it works fine. dealer says engine/tranny combo "bulletproof" compared to other mazdas so i expect near toyota-like reliability to continue

  • More than what I bargained for - 1999 Mazda 626

We bought this demo car in 2000. I liked the leather seats and deserts colors. It has a very roomy back seat. Lots of head room. We were concerned after the purchase that the transmission seemed to snap. After several visits to the dealer we ended up having the motor mounts replined, which was under warranty. The radio quit working under warranty. The anntena has failed not under warranty and we have replaced a visor. Other than that the car just keeps going now at 138,000 miles. We replaced the brakes, tune ups, the timing belt at the right mileage, recently a new battery. The car feels solid and strong. Cant believe it didnt fall apart after warranty. Ill drive it until it dies.

  • I like my 626 :-) - 2002 Mazda 626

I have had my 626 for about 6 months now. We bought the car used but I have to say that we have really enjoyed the car. Although the exterior is a little boring the performance and comfort more than makes up for it. The car is quiet and has a very sturdy feeling to it. It also has great get up and go. Weve had no problems. We took the car on a long road trip and it was very comfortable and handled well on steep and mountainous roads. We love it!

Not a bad car for the price. Stay away from the automatic transmission models--they have a long history of premature failure. Luckily, ours came with a 5 speed. Unless youre very concerned with gas milage, try to find a V6. Ive found the 125hp four cylinder engine very unrewarding. Where the 626 shines is in handling. Ive been very impressed with the way the car corners

  • 2002 626 LX - 4 cylinder / Automatic - 2002 Mazda 626
    By -

Purchased 2002 626 in May 2006 with 57,000 miles. Car is in good to excellent shape. Getting about 23 MPG in mixed driving. Car has been very reliable and is a good comfortable road trip car for 4 people and plenty of luggage. 4 cylinder motor isnt all that powerful (the 2002 Altima has a much more powerful motor) and road noise is sometimes very noticeable.
