Great economical mid-size. Would reccomend it to anyone looking for a reliable car of this type. Was a little puzzled why the outer C-V boots failed at 60k miles. It has been my experience this usually happens after 100 k miles.

Outstanding reliability for 8 years. We did all the preventative maintenance as scheduled and changed oil every 5,000 miles. Fun to drive; responsive. Great Bose sound system. Still a great car after all these years.

Still running like a champ at 130,000 miles. This car has (still) a nice pick-up. Its a blast to drive with its rigid chassis and sporty suspension. Fuel economy for me has always been just sub-30, which is great. I live in an extreme climate, and the climate controls are very impressive. It handles (very) sub-zero temperatures well, just as it cools well in over 100 temperatures.

  • a good buy - 1999 Mazda 626

A great college car for me until I recently plowed a deer and totalled the car and deer. Great for carrying 4-5 people with ample space. Nice pick up and smooth metal brakes. Lasted through many long hauls across the Nevada desert without the transmission problems that my 2000 626 had.

  • Great Car - 103,000 Miles So Far - 1999 Mazda 626
    By -

I purchased this car new. It currently has 103,000 miles and so far Ive only had to pay for routine maintenace..with the exception of the door seals. It did have a couple of repairs while under warranty: Clock spring in steering wheel and CV joints. Mazda auto shops were a pain to work with. Had to take car back several times with both problems before they were fixed. Different Mazda shops.

Bought the car new. Now with 86000 miles I have only done oil changes, spark plugs, serp belt, and replaced the tires. Everything else is original. I love the 5 speed trans and excellent reliability!!!

For our first New car, thru much research (thanx Edmunds),this was the best buy for our bucks. The 130 ponies may not be enough for some but coupled with the 5spd we are having with a blast. Weve had ONE recall which was no big deal because our 626s brake reservoir cap had the vent in place. The only time she sees the inside of a garage is for oil change and other preventive stuff.

My Mazda has 45K miles. No problems. It has the standard 4 cylinder motor. Plenty of power for town and interstate driving. Styling is a little dated, but so am I. Comfort is pretty good, except for drivers arm rest. I do not like the ignition key...it it very long and jabs my side during the day while it is in my pocket. I change my own oil. This is one of the hardest vehicles to change the oil on(the filter is super small and in a hard place to reach). Most of the time I go to Jiffy Lube instead. I have owned 4 Honda Accords in the past. This auto is as good overall as a Honda, and a little bit cheaper to purchase. Defects have been zero so far.
