  • 165,000 miles and still running - 1999 Mazda 626
    By -

My 1999 626, manual transmission (we bought it new) has 165,000 miles on it. It is now a "college car" for my son. The engine went out a few weeks ago and we opted to put a used one in (100,000 miles on this one). $1,800.00 later and the car is running great. We could not find a used car for the price of repairing this one. The body and interior on this car still looks great. Only problems..antenna wont go down, one power window doesnt work (back seat) other than that this car has been almost repair free. I hope we can get another few years on the new engine.....

  • Great Car - 1999 Mazda 626

I bought my 626 a couple of years ago and have decided that it is the best car I have owned. I believe that the ES is much nicer than the LX even if they are small differences, and I think that they are worth the money. Additionaly the car is pretty quick and has been very reliable on long cross country trips. I would prefer a 626 ES over a Corrolla any day.

  • Great car for me - 1999 Mazda 626

I purchased this car in 2004. It had over 100 thousand miles on it. I have not had any Major car problems until this year 2008 at 166,147 miles. I have put in a transmission and a timing belt in it. It rides very well. No other maintenance problems, regular maintenance upkeep. Very good value for the money for me.

  • Power, economy, reliable & fun - 1999 Mazda 626

In 2.5 yrs, 45K miles, have had not a single problem. Zippy 4cyl engine passes anything on the road with power to spare. Fold down rear seats with access to trunk space gives this car unusual versatility. Heat & AC temp adjustments very responsive.

the overall quality of this car is great,i have been an automotive technician for fifteen years and this car rates with the more expensive models from other manufacturers.

  • Happy with a 5 speed - 1998 Mazda 626

I bought this car new in 1998 and have had few problems. The ABS failed one week after the warranty expired and the weather stripping came loose after seven years. The Ford/Mazda product isnt as high quality as pure Mazda products Ive owned previously. I have gotten over 40 mpg on highway trips and city travel averages in the high 20s. After 8 years the only repair I have required is brake pads, plug wires and cleaning the throttle body. Friends that have the automatic transmission have had lots of problems but the stick shift has performed flawlessly. My Mazda truck is going strong after 21 years with out needing ANY major repairs. I think the merger with Ford has weakened the product.

  • Mazda 626LX - an excellent vehicle! - 1998 Mazda 626

I have loved this car; its the best vehicle Ive ever owned. Its now nearly 10 years old and it still drives really well. Its a standard and Ive never replaced or repaired the clutch and Ive got @110,000 miles on it! The leather interior and sun roof have been wonderful. Ive replaced the exhaust system and the tires, and reparied the rear bumpers several times due to nicks. Otherwise, Ive been nearly repair free! Great car; wish Mazda still made this one because Id get another!

Second Mazda 626 LX V6. Gets 21 mpg on average. Elegant style and acceptable craftsmanship so far. Added simulated wood grain trim really makes car look classy. Very nimble for sedan hard to believe! Fun to drive, great for midlifers and above! A very happy Mazda Owner. Only complain so far is paint around fog lamp plastic bezzel peeled off when I power washed car to get bugs off in coin operated power bay at 3500 miles. Dealer agreed to fix after consulting with regional service manager.

  • Too bad for wind noise! - 2000 Mazda 626

Rented 626 and thrilled to drive so bought one. Very elegent driftwood color and alloy wheels makes car look classy. So fun to drive hard to believe its a sedan. Drives great and perfect for mid lifers. Get the V6 for todays driving. However, the actual vehicle I took delivery of had an annoying and unrepairable wind noise from rear upper cornet of drivers side window. Dealer did not spend a great deal of time and dismissed or minimized condition so I had to unload it and get another unit. Must have been a Monday or Friday car. Averaged 21 mpg. Caution, remote keyless entry will not unlock door if keys in ignition with vehicle running! Snowbirds beware!

  • Still running after 164,000 miles strong - 1998 Mazda 626

We bought our 626 new 98 we have had no major issues with this car. Routine expected work and we have had more issues with cars with less mileage then our Mazda. The car is still beautiful rides like its 4 yrs old and have just had super performance from this car. We bought a Mazda CX9 as well this year and again very pleased - we only drive Mazda now.
