  • A good car - 1999 Mazda 626

I love this car for following reasons 1. Comfort. I love the interior comforts and the features that it has like Swing Vents 2. Driving. The acceleration was good. Pick up was not comparable to Chrysler V6 but not bad either. 3. I have driven this car over the NH mountains and never had issues. 4. Had to recharge the AC at about 97kmiles and timing belt replaced and after that the AC is fine without issues Regular oil changes , 90000 service, done. Recently had to replace the transmission hose as it had some problems.

  • Time to trade it in I guess - 1999 Mazda 626

Im at 66,700 for this 1999 beauty, but I guess its time to trade her in. In the past year, Ive put over $1800 into the car, and Im nervous to continue driving her long distances, should something else go wrong. Its kind of like having an elderly cat or dog. You love them, but you know its just a matter of time. So, reluctantly, I will be saying goodbye to my sage-green gal, and hope that she finds another good home, swinging vents and all!

  • Another great Mazda - 1999 Mazda 626

This is my 6th 626 (1st one was in 79). In 175,000 miles only one problem - the heat gauge failed and had to replace the instrument cluster. At this point I get 28 - 31 mpg (with the 5-speed) and am driving 3000+ miles/month. The car still looks good, and like our others, I expect to drive it for 200,000+ miles. Still havent replaced a clutch, or anything other than normal maintenance. Wish my van was as reliable.

  • More than what I bargained for - 1999 Mazda 626

We bought this demo car in 2000. I liked the leather seats and deserts colors. It has a very roomy back seat. Lots of head room. We were concerned after the purchase that the transmission seemed to snap. After several visits to the dealer we ended up having the motor mounts replined, which was under warranty. The radio quit working under warranty. The anntena has failed not under warranty and we have replaced a visor. Other than that the car just keeps going now at 138,000 miles. We replaced the brakes, tune ups, the timing belt at the right mileage, recently a new battery. The car feels solid and strong. Cant believe it didnt fall apart after warranty. Ill drive it until it dies.

  • very poor transmission design - 1999 Mazda 626

when having the tranny flushed you cannot change the filter out unless you take the whole transmission out my transmission is out at only 78,000 miles and to repair will cost half the value

  • bought new in 99 still driving fine - 1999 Mazda 626

I purchased this car new in 1999. The first problem i had was in 2004 i replaced the front struts. then had to replace the front axle . after 100K miles i had to replace the drive belt along with the water pump. i consider this a good car... no problems at all till around 100K miles which i think is pretty standard or better than standard for most cars. will drive until it stops running

  • Transmission Problems on a 99 - 1999 Mazda 626

I should have been a smart buyer...I thought I was when I first fell in love with my 96 626. I loved that car...but it was a lease and I wanted to try the newer 626, so I bought the 99. Why at 60,000 miles I had to get a new transmission! 1,500 dollars!!! OUCH! With the way the economy is going...I had to use all I had and some...just finished paying on the stupid thing. My brain just could not understand why I was getting a new transmission...to what should have been a decent and new car and great condition. Oh well...now I know...and hopefully you will too before you think about purchasing a 626. Hopefully, theyre making them better!

  • Reliable 626 - 1999 Mazda 626

Purchased new when the dealership offered invoice price and Mazda had a $2,250 rebate, a no brainer to purchase a V6 sedan for $17,000. Now 120,000 mies and looking to double that. Terrific MPGs 28 to 30 with an automatic trans. commuting 50 miles one way through the southern NY roads (25 MPG with 4 snow tires). No major mechanical problems to mention. Minor problems- automatic antenna finally broke after 6 years and CD player needed to be replaced once. Very good handling and response. If still going strong at 200k with preventative maintainence and no more hit deer, I will replace the timing belt again (about $350) and shoot for 300K.

  • Great Car - 1999 Mazda 626

I bought my 1999 Mazda back in May , It has 207,000 Plus miles all I have done to it is Oil Change and Lub . I like all the extra features which are to many to disribe . After owning a Ford -150 4 X 4 I enjoy the Gas Milage I get on The Mazda .

  • Excellent Mid-grade Car - 1999 Mazda 626
    By -

My 626 has been an excellent car. I found this model with a comfortable leather interior that feels much more expensive. My 4 cylinder could use a bit more power so go for the V6 if you can (later years only offer leather with V6). Only other complaints are road noise and turn radius, two issues I can live with for the price.
