My third 626 - 2000 Mazda 626
By Daniel - September 5 - 3:53 pmThis is my third Mazda 626 and each has been practically maintenance-free. Each successive model has improved comfort, more features, and better drive and power. The best sedan for the money.

Used and Abused but still rolling along - 1999 Mazda 626
By BudMech - July 16 - 4:16 pmMy dad bought me this car in February of 2010 for my sophomore year in high school. We knew it had problems but we got it for only $1,180 and 129,000 miles on the odometer. After having it inspected the next day I discovered that it was a hunk of junk basically. It still needs its drivers side steering control arm replaced,a new catalytic converter, a new muffler and eventually the transmission. The car is working its way down the shifter and is unstable in Park and Reverse gears. The minor stuff is the power antenna and drivers power door locking mechanism and discs and drums. He uses it to drive to work and it hasnt killed him yet so maybe it will give out before I "officially get it."

The Little Engine that Can - 1998 Mazda 626
By ds91776 - June 10 - 2:00 amI have had my 626 for over a year now and it ahs been a real champ. The car is classy inside and out, reliable, and is not a Camry or Accord. I wanted an inexpensive, classy mid-size, but loathed buying a Camry or Accord and the 626 nailed it.

Excellent alternative to Accord/Camry - 1999 Mazda 626
By paulbl - June 2 - 2:00 amOverall a vehicle that has exceeded my expectations. Very reliable, not a single problem, just routine maintenance. Excellent fuel economy with the 4cyl 5sp - 30-31 mpg in daily driving (in the horrible Seattle traffic), 36-38 on the hwy. Runs fine on regular unleaded and has adequate power for merging and passing. Great seats, more comfortable than the ones in my parents Passat! Great leg room front and rear, 4 six-footers fit fine in this car. Could have less road noise, changing the tires helped here (to Yokohama Avid Touring radials), as did adding noise reducing material behind the front doors. Overall highly recommended.

Good Car For The Money - 2001 Mazda 626
By Chris - May 8 - 10:00 amI bought my car four years ago with a little over 70,000 miles on it. In that time, the only big repair Ive had to make is replacing the axles due to the CV boots, which were busted when I bought it. Other repairs were minor, including new spark plugs, plug wires, new battery, and a valve cover gasket. Regular maintenance has kept it on the road and relatively problem- free. I trust it to get me to work and back and to occasionally drive almost the full length of Texas and back, which Ive done a few times now. The car isnt sexy, but the looks have held up for close to ten years now. Not fun to drive because of the 4 cyl engine. Its just a tool to get from A to B, and its done it well.

Lots of band for the dollar - 2002 Mazda 626
By kawnow - April 8 - 2:00 amBought the 626 and a protege 5, which today I get rid of the protege 5. Stylish comfort. I see complaints about the leg room, which i could see if i was over 6 feet tall, but Im not, so no complaints. Excellent stero. Tansmission is usually smooth, a little, and I mean just a little, rough on cold mornings. Average gas mileage. Its my thoughts that Mazda made basic seem cool.

233K mile on it - 1998 Mazda 626
By leezhao - April 7 - 8:47 amI bought this 98 mazda 626 about three weeks ago with 232k mile on it, so far, I feel It is a new car, interior, exterior, engine, etc, the engine is so quiet that when I stopped at traffic light, I thought the engine had stopped running. the gas mileage is excellent, the build quality is superb. the clutch is bit stiff, I do not know if it needs to be replaced or it is way it is.

Good affordable car - 1999 Mazda 626
By shannon - March 13 - 2:26 amI bought this car used in 2001. Had 35K miles on it. It now has 125K miles on it. Its a good car to get you from point A to B, and it looks nice if you keep it cleaned up. But its life span probably wont exceed far past 150K. I havent had a wreck, and Ive kept up the maintenance. At 100K, a/c vents started spewing plastic filter pieces (just annoying, swivel still works, but slowly). CV boots cracked, twice (clicking when turns). At 120K, the oil started leaking, engine began vibrating, a/c pulled too much power (engine vibrates when its on, computer timing is off). Lots of problems, but at 125K, what can you expect from this quality of car.
