Happy with my fourth mazda - 1998 Mazda 626
By D.Rathbun - June 4 - 10:00 amThis 98 626 has never reqired any repairs except an ABS sensor @30K. It is a 5 speed manual which seems to be more reliable than the automatics. I change the oil every 3000 miles and keep up with scheduled services and have yet to have a hint of a problem. Im a little worried about the Ford connection as my well cared for Windstars engine blew up after 61,000 miles. The car has plenty of pep with the 5 speed and appears to be utterly reliable...more trouble free than my Honda accord which puts it in good company. It also handles well in snow and ice but will bog down in the really deep stuff.

a good buy - 1999 Mazda 626
By Jim54 - May 11 - 10:00 amA great college car for me until I recently plowed a deer and totalled the car and deer. Great for carrying 4-5 people with ample space. Nice pick up and smooth metal brakes. Lasted through many long hauls across the Nevada desert without the transmission problems that my 2000 626 had.

Great Car - 103,000 Miles So Far - 1999 Mazda 626
By vramirez - April 27 - 10:00 amI purchased this car new. It currently has 103,000 miles and so far Ive only had to pay for routine maintenace..with the exception of the door seals. It did have a couple of repairs while under warranty: Clock spring in steering wheel and CV joints. Mazda auto shops were a pain to work with. Had to take car back several times with both problems before they were fixed. Different Mazda shops.

Wonderful Sedan - 1998 Mazda 626
By Harold - April 23 - 6:16 pmBought the car new. Now with 86000 miles I have only done oil changes, spark plugs, serp belt, and replaced the tires. Everything else is original. I love the 5 speed trans and excellent reliability!!!

go with 6-cylinder - 2002 Mazda 626
By zymur - July 2 - 2:00 amOriginally had a 4-cylinder and traded up to a 6- cylinder.Lots of pep and STILL get 26+ miles per gallon! ( Even when driving at 80MPH!) Have over 63,000 miles and my wife has over 83,000 miles on her same model with no problems on either car.

still "zoomin" - 1999 Mazda 626
By BananaDoc - June 15 - 10:00 amA wonderfully reliable workhorse. Never give it a thought, just get in and go. Comparisons to Accord/Camry/Etc. Are obvious given the price point, but I argue the 626, at least the LX V6, does it better and with tremendous amounts of style or the competition. Everytime I stroll towards the car in a crowded parking lot--I never see a prettier package without spending $20,000 more! It is a real looker! With the leather/moonroof/power-out- the-yingyang combo, you would be pressed to find as well heeled a car for double the money!

Surprisingly good vehicle...follow up - 1998 Mazda 626
By Trinbago Foreigner - April 7 - 5:56 pmWell Im sorry for all of those that bought the automatic. The standard has been fantastic (knock on wood). Ive had to change the oil pan after some rust. Thats about it. Next to the usual maintenance work the car runs the same as it did before. I also take back the A/C comment since it doesnt seem to affect the gas mileage that much on long rides. In town driving shows a greater gas mileage drop off with the A/C. Annual driving given in kilometres approx. 40,000 km or 25,000 miles.
