  • very poor transmission design - 1999 Mazda 626

when having the tranny flushed you cannot change the filter out unless you take the whole transmission out my transmission is out at only 78,000 miles and to repair will cost half the value

  • Very happy with my 626 - 1998 Mazda 626

I am very happy with my Mazda 626. I purchased it 1.5 years ago The car has been very reliable and I have put 22000 miles on it and no problems since new. I feel that for a $21,000 car new, its an exceptional value. I am suprised that the trade in value is only $4100 as it is a quality car and rates up there with the higher end ones. I read these complaints that people have and have to laugh. They buy the car used, dont know who had it first, then complain that its Mazda? Who knows what kind of driver may have beat the car for the for 50,000 miles. Think about it?

  • bought new in 99 still driving fine - 1999 Mazda 626

I purchased this car new in 1999. The first problem i had was in 2004 i replaced the front struts. then had to replace the front axle . after 100K miles i had to replace the drive belt along with the water pump. i consider this a good car... no problems at all till around 100K miles which i think is pretty standard or better than standard for most cars. will drive until it stops running

This was the second new Mazda I have purchased in since 1996. I have had only good experience with the Mazda 626. It is affordable and DEPENDABLE. That is why I am in the market for another one. Stick with something good.

  • Not quite nice... - 2001 Mazda 626
    By -

Ok, so this isnt the best investment Ive ever made. Ive had to take the dumb thing back to the shop every few weeks for some repair or another. The transmission is rough on the shifting and burns the fluid quite fast. The handling is poor and even though the shop said the suspension is good I seem to feel every bump I go over, not to mension the car drifts while being driven. I make sure to keep up on all preventive maintence but it doesnt seem to be enough.

  • wouldnt buy again - 2000 Mazda 626
    By -

I purchased my 626 3 years ago and it has been a reliable car. The only mechanical problem was last summer when the air conditioner failed. The biggest problem with the car is the road noise. It comes from underneath (we live on a dirt road) and the windows and doors let in too much noise. Ive also noticed that the 626 doesnt seem to hold its value and Im a little worried about trading it off next year.

  • One reliable car - 2001 Mazda 626

First off this car will not beat too many vehicles on the road. It will get you where you want to go but speed is not what my car is about. I cant speak for the V6 models but my 4 banger is definitely missing the VROOM VROOM. But I havent had 1 problem with the car yet so its reliability for me is outstanding and gets a 10 thus far. Car has no thrills and is nothing impressive. It just does the job its meant to do and does it well. I think it would be a good car to give to a high school kid or a family. But I wouldnt want to go hit the town in it.

  • Great Car - 1999 Mazda 626

I am very pleased with my decision. I had a 93 MX-6 with the same engine (2.5 V-6) and it is terrific. Wasnt sure what to expect with the automatic but it provides good power. The interior layout is very good, Im a big guy 63" 280 and have no problems. If it had the Honda nameplate it wouldve won every award, but I like Mazda because you can usually get a good deal and their build quality is good.

  • A great car to me - 1998 Mazda 626

We purchased our 626 after reading in Consumer Guide that it was highly recommended year and model. We have really enjoyed driving this car. We get an honest to goodness average of 40 mpg. I drive it at 65 to 70 on the freeway and it handles well as far as I am concerned. It never burns any oil and I have gone to synthetic oil. Im keeping it till it dies because we have been so pleased with it. It only has 122,000 on the engine.

  • Goes Early - 1998 Mazda 626
    By -

I bought the car at 115,000 miles. It looked like it was in great shape and also had a new transmission put in. But the engine is where I got my problems. This engine sludged up on me and gave way too early. I paid way to much for this car to not even last me a year and a half! Overall I give it a bad grade. Maybe thats why they dont make them anymore?
