what a deal - 1998 Mazda 626
By bones - February 3 - 10:00 ambought 6 months ago from private seller. 1998 ES-V6 5 speed manual, 60k miles. have put 20,000 more on it since, have had no problems whatsover. It is quite fast, i guess about 7.5 seconds to 60mph. runs right with preludes, eclipses, other little 4 cylinders... great fun. the only ford parts i see are the cruise control, and some minor engine control systems. no big deal. dont know about manual tranny, but it works fine. dealer says engine/tranny combo "bulletproof" compared to other mazdas so i expect near toyota-like reliability to continue

cheap car - 1999 Mazda 626
By master g - January 29 - 10:00 amthe door seals came apart, it has no abs brakes so braking is bad, the power windows are really slow to close or open, radio is cheap, ride is smooth but turns are scary if speed is high, resale value is poor.

More than what I bargained for - 1999 Mazda 626
By impressed - January 21 - 11:46 amWe bought this demo car in 2000. I liked the leather seats and deserts colors. It has a very roomy back seat. Lots of head room. We were concerned after the purchase that the transmission seemed to snap. After several visits to the dealer we ended up having the motor mounts replined, which was under warranty. The radio quit working under warranty. The anntena has failed not under warranty and we have replaced a visor. Other than that the car just keeps going now at 138,000 miles. We replaced the brakes, tune ups, the timing belt at the right mileage, recently a new battery. The car feels solid and strong. Cant believe it didnt fall apart after warranty. Ill drive it until it dies.

Best Car I Ever Owned - 1998 Mazda 626
By JGansauer - December 7 - 10:00 amWithout a doubt, the best car I ever owned. I gave my son this car a year ago for him to drive to work. Later, I sold him my truck and he returned the Mazda. I fully intended to trade it in for whatever it was worth, considering it had 122,000 miles on it. The moment I got in again, after a year, I realized I couldnt get rid of it. It was too reliable and too good a ride. I had a mechanic check it out. It only needed new spark plug wires. In 124,000 miles, besides the usual maintenance, only the water pump failed (at about 30,000 miles) which was under warantee. Well worth the $22,000 or so I spent on it.

I like my 626 :-) - 2002 Mazda 626
By skeezers - November 21 - 12:30 amI have had my 626 for about 6 months now. We bought the car used but I have to say that we have really enjoyed the car. Although the exterior is a little boring the performance and comfort more than makes up for it. The car is quiet and has a very sturdy feeling to it. It also has great get up and go. Weve had no problems. We took the car on a long road trip and it was very comfortable and handled well on steep and mountainous roads. We love it!

1998 626 LX - 1998 Mazda 626
By shaundarbie - November 18 - 10:00 amNot a bad car for the price. Stay away from the automatic transmission models--they have a long history of premature failure. Luckily, ours came with a 5 speed. Unless youre very concerned with gas milage, try to find a V6. Ive found the 125hp four cylinder engine very unrewarding. Where the 626 shines is in handling. Ive been very impressed with the way the car corners

Dont buy kee max - 2001 Mazda 626
By nokeemax - November 2 - 7:53 amI bought this car from kee max several years ago, the engine blew before I made it home (less than 15 miles). Kee max buys cars from auction and puts them directly on their lot. After spending approx $2500 on a new engine, this car keeps going and going. It now has over 144,000 miles and still going strong.

2002 626 LX - 4 cylinder / Automatic - 2002 Mazda 626
By Dan - October 29 - 4:06 pmPurchased 2002 626 in May 2006 with 57,000 miles. Car is in good to excellent shape. Getting about 23 MPG in mixed driving. Car has been very reliable and is a good comfortable road trip car for 4 people and plenty of luggage. 4 cylinder motor isnt all that powerful (the 2002 Altima has a much more powerful motor) and road noise is sometimes very noticeable.

Loves to eat transmissions - 1998 Mazda 626
By Teed off in Milwauke - October 7 - 4:46 pmBought with 53K on it and it has 94K as of 1/30/06. Guess what -- will be replacing the transmission again for the 3rd time. Piece of junk and will never buy another Mazda.
