I like this vehicle because it has had no mechanical breadowns or problems. In addition, I get good gas mileage

Since buying this marvel of technology weve had the transmission die at 60,000, the front axel brake, the drive chain fall off, the fuel sensor die causing us to loose all acceleration power while driving on the highway, and a recent intermittent ABS failure. If it werent for an extended warranty, we would have cut our loses long ago. I would like to add that the many other cars weve owned in our lives (no other mazdas) have not had these problems.

I love it. The only quirks it has is the auto tranmission, its alittle jerky untill you get used to how to let off on the gas, but other than that its great. Very smooth, good fit and finish, and one of the best factory sound systems in the industry. The only other thing thing about this car is the oil filter location...why? The instruction manual says to get the oil changed at a dealer because of the "special tool" needed to change it. Again I ask....why?

  • Time to trade it in I guess - 1999 Mazda 626
    By -

Im at 66,700 for this 1999 beauty, but I guess its time to trade her in. In the past year, Ive put over $1800 into the car, and Im nervous to continue driving her long distances, should something else go wrong. Its kind of like having an elderly cat or dog. You love them, but you know its just a matter of time. So, reluctantly, I will be saying goodbye to my sage-green gal, and hope that she finds another good home, swinging vents and all!

  • Was good but now... - 1999 Mazda 626

I bought this car with 45K on it and never had any problems up until 3 months ago.(100K) It has been a snowball ever since the Altanator belt went. Now the Alt. is bad the O2 sensor (dont know which one) The is oil leaking into exhaust valve, piston ring, fuel injector, there is a vacuum leak. The antenna has been broke since a month after i bought it. Sway bar was broke never knew till we changed the brakes. The altinator is very hard to get at. I loved the car and now it is snowballing on down. I kept up on it and took care of it. But I am to poor to fix it all at once now.

  • No more Mazda - 2001 Mazda 626

In one year, I have needed an expensive tune-up and then the transmission went out at 85K miles. Gas mileage not very good for a four cylinder engine. Right tail lamp developed leak when it rains and had to be replaced.

  • Another great Mazda - 1999 Mazda 626

This is my 6th 626 (1st one was in 79). In 175,000 miles only one problem - the heat gauge failed and had to replace the instrument cluster. At this point I get 28 - 31 mpg (with the 5-speed) and am driving 3000+ miles/month. The car still looks good, and like our others, I expect to drive it for 200,000+ miles. Still havent replaced a clutch, or anything other than normal maintenance. Wish my van was as reliable.

  • we like our 626 - 1999 Mazda 626

We are very happy with this used car. It gives no trouble and is quiet. AC and heat are good. Handling excellent for a sedan. Really sticks to the road. Husband wasnt sure about car at first but he really likes it now that we have owned it for 2+ years. We do have to get the AC system worked on next Spring as it quit cooling. we plan to keep this car as long as possible.

  • Problems - 2000 Mazda 626

I recently bought this used car in February 3rd, and I drove till the 5th and the car broke down. Having no Acceleration when i was driving and when i pulled up to the side trying to re-start the vehicle it wont start. So i brought it to the Mechanics to repair the problem, they found out that the "Fuel Pump" was broken. So I got it repair and drive it for another 3 days the same problem appear. So I think this is not a good car unless you want to have as a back up. Right now if the car is fix, Im still worry about driving this car around. Its like wasting money to buy a car that cannot drive.

  • Transmission Issue - 1998 Mazda 626
    By -

I have rated this car with extreme leniency. I bought it at 70,000 miles. Transmission went out at around 86,000 miles. I spent $2500 on it and couldnt believe that it happened to me. Mazda is a Japanese car and everything in the engine is supposed to be top notch. That assumption went down the hole when the mechanic told me, "Yeah its got a Ford Transmission in it and its out of stock." These type of Ford transmissions were being used so much at that time that they were out of stock. I dont need to say anything else about the Ford company and its transmission. I can see how someone a little short can have problem looking back. The way the cars back side is, its hard to get a complete back view.
