  • Happy with a 5 speed - 1998 Mazda 626

I bought this car new in 1998 and have had few problems. The ABS failed one week after the warranty expired and the weather stripping came loose after seven years. The Ford/Mazda product isnt as high quality as pure Mazda products Ive owned previously. I have gotten over 40 mpg on highway trips and city travel averages in the high 20s. After 8 years the only repair I have required is brake pads, plug wires and cleaning the throttle body. Friends that have the automatic transmission have had lots of problems but the stick shift has performed flawlessly. My Mazda truck is going strong after 21 years with out needing ANY major repairs. I think the merger with Ford has weakened the product.

Bought the car 1 year ago and recently, at 53,000 miles, the head gaskets went out. Mazda refused to assist in paying and will never buy another mazda.

i bought this car 2 months ago and so far i love it. the v6 gives you a lot of power though it seems a little sluggish in city driving. the leather seats makes the car look and feel a lot more luxurious then it is. id get the V6 because the 4 cyclinder doesnt have any power. the ride is smooth but i wish the steering was a little tighter it has more of a big car feeling. its spacey and the interior looks plain but nice. This is a really good car.

I bought my car in 06 from a private owner. The car was in great condition and had 62k miles on it. 6 months after buying the car my the cd player decided it no longer wanted to play cds, the antenna will not go down and it makes this horrible noise whenever I put the radio on, now the AC doesnt work anymore I was told that the entire dash board needs to come out for the problem to be fixed $$$$$, also the power door locks doesnt work any more that too is making an awful loud noise that I cant stand This car is more of a headache than anything else. I wish i would have done more research on these types of cars and i only have 83,246 miles imagine what will happen at 40,000 save your money

  • Money Pit! - 2000 Mazda 626

Bought the 4 cylinder with about 30k miles on it. Once I hit 100k every major system started breaking down. Replaced the transmission, everything on the front end from the sway bar to the tie rods and ball joints. Electrical problems. I think I put more money in this car than I paid for it. I will never buy a Mazda product again. Not built to last. Drove daily 80 miles a day all highway. The worst car I ever owned.

I went from a sporty two-door coupe to my 626 to make room for my new baby. I have no complaints. I financed my car through Mazda American Credit and have been overly impressed with the service I have received and the performance of my car.

I have this car for a week now, highway ride is just awful if you exceed 75 mph. dificult to stear, and not comfortable, would recommend spending few more dollars and get the Toyota Camry.

  • Mazda 626LX - an excellent vehicle! - 1998 Mazda 626

I have loved this car; its the best vehicle Ive ever owned. Its now nearly 10 years old and it still drives really well. Its a standard and Ive never replaced or repaired the clutch and Ive got @110,000 miles on it! The leather interior and sun roof have been wonderful. Ive replaced the exhaust system and the tires, and reparied the rear bumpers several times due to nicks. Otherwise, Ive been nearly repair free! Great car; wish Mazda still made this one because Id get another!

Second Mazda 626 LX V6. Gets 21 mpg on average. Elegant style and acceptable craftsmanship so far. Added simulated wood grain trim really makes car look classy. Very nimble for sedan hard to believe! Fun to drive, great for midlifers and above! A very happy Mazda Owner. Only complain so far is paint around fog lamp plastic bezzel peeled off when I power washed car to get bugs off in coin operated power bay at 3500 miles. Dealer agreed to fix after consulting with regional service manager.
