An all-new Sportage returns after a two-year hiatus. It's now a car-based SUV intended to compete with the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.

Pros:
  • Generous passenger and cargo space, stylish and functional interior, standard side and head curtain airbags, hard-to-beat warranty, standard ABS and stability control.
Cons:
  • Down on power and cargo capacity versus its competitors.

  • 2005 Sportage - Love It! - 2005 Kia Sportage

We bought this as our main family car & just happened to look at the Kias. We were also looking at Vues, RAV4s, and CR-Vs. The Kia provided the best interior space & features that we enjoyed. Our 2 kids have plenty of room. The drive is comfortable & the car feels almost indestructible ... try it, open the door and slam it! It sounds solid! The Sportage provides all the creature comforts we want but still feels a bit rigid (which we like). We currentlyget 27 mpg on highway & 23 on city, not too bad. For a small SUV it does fine in mpg. We definitely do not regret getting the Sportage. The price was great & the quality was better than the others. The standard features are perfect.

I feel that this new design of the Kia Sportages are very cool. It is a whold new look and now they really look like SUVs. I would tell lots of people to buy one because, they are not that expensive and yet they are stylish.

Very inexpensive "Volvo" looking car that comes with comfortable seats and plenty of room for driver and guests.

Dealership let me take it home for a few days to try it on for size, The 2nd day the engine check lite came on while on interstate Hwy. took it to dealership the 3rd day to have someone look at it for me. But service was busy eating lunch was told to come back the next day. Went to GM told him of problem; lunch was over in 30seconds. it took a GM and 5 minutes to cure problem. 4th day A/C had foul odor. 5th day wife took it to work; on the way home A/C went out went back to dealership around 0700hrs/ Kia Rep at dealership could not find problem and it is now 1300hrs. dealership is now freaking out trying to locate me another Sportage EX Lux Pkg very hard to find in the bayou state with hot temps.

This is the second Sportage that I have purchased and have enjoyed everything about both cars. The first was a 2000 model and was very happily surprised when the 2005 model came out. Purchased in a hurry and have not been disappointed. Would recommend this car to anyone.

My husband and I just purchased a 2005 Kia Sportage, pre-owned, with 135k miles, due to our limited budget. The Carfax didnt list any maintenance, and the test-drive and subsequent independent pre-purchase inspection confirmed that there were problems. The timing belt system had not been replaced at 100k miles, the battery was original (and died right after purchase), and the A/C was non-functional. We were able to knock off a lot from the price due to all the work that needed to be done (most of it simply maintenance that was put off, not true issues). A/C problem due to climate control module and is being replaced. Hoping we dont regret this purchase.

This is a nice small SUV. I just wish the gas mileage was a little better. I came out of a small car and I could get so much further on a tank of gas. With prices rising that is important. My kids love the roomy space and they picked out the car and they are very satisfied.

Very nice exterior look, roomy interior, excellent warranty (10 years/100,000 miles). My husband loves the headroom, legroom, interior space (passenger and rear seat folds flat). Has an option for auto or manual driving. At a rear glance, people thinks its a Range Rover...front glance looks like a CRV. CONS: we only get 19 mpg highway (87 octane)

  • Mileage disaster - 2005 Kia Sportage

I really enjoy this car except for the mileage. It is rated 19 mpg city but despite the fact that I am very rarely ever stuck in traffic, I rarely average over 14.2 mpg.
