Overview & Reviews
Fresh from last year's redesign, the Kia Sorento gains a few more upgrades for 2012. Topping the list is a new, optional four-cylinder engine with direct fuel injection for more power and better fuel economy. Also new are a ventilated driver seat, stain-resistant seat fabric and Kia's "Uvo" voice-activated control interface.
- Long warranty.
- Optional fuel-efficient four-cylinder
- Plentiful standard features
- Decent-size third-row seat, sporty handling
- Optional punchy V6
- Five-passenger model lacks a sliding second-row seat.
- Suspension tuning is a bit too firm

2012 Kia Sorento - 2012 Kia Sorento
By heydes - December 10 - 8:22 pmI am in love with this vehicle. We get a lot of looks and people commenting on how nice the car looks. I am very happy. I like the option of the third row. We only have two children and the car works out well for our family. The second row is a little smaller than I would prefer.

Always buy the big engine. - 2012 Kia Sorento
By buiford56 - September 21 - 9:32 amI feel badly for all of you that bought the four cylinder engines. I have just under 30K on my Sorento and it is a great vehicle. My family and I drove from Iowa to Louisiana and back last week and I averaged 27.5 mpg at 76 mph. This is a comfortable and relaxed road-trip cruiser. The ride is a bit stiff, but this is why it handles well. The Sorento is powerful and economical. I have to say, it does very well in the snow too.

Disappointed - 2012 Kia Sorento
By brianandr - September 17 - 4:23 amOne of the big selling points for me was the HWY MPG. It has been a BIG disappointment so far. I have put 6000 miles on it and have yet to get better than 24MPG. KIA states 32...HOW?! My last 3 Nissans(Rogue, Versa, 350Z) all got at or above what the factory claimed, including the Rogue(which I should have gone with again). I love that it has plenty of room and comes at a great value but if I had known I wasnt even going to get in the ballpark of their HWY MPG, I would have gone a different route.

POOR gas mileage - 2012 Kia Sorento
By horse8 - September 15 - 10:02 pmExcuses by Bairl Kia in Pgh for poor gas mileage: the snow, the hills, and the government sets those gas mileage ranges! I cannot get over 20mpg on the highway going 70mph. I bought this vehicle for the listed gas mileage. Not even close! The ride is hard. It has the bells and whistles but I would have liked what was advertised by Kia. I am disappointed.

2012 Kia Sorento - 2012 Kia Sorento
By sdrayton - August 11 - 1:51 pmThis is my 2nd Sorento. My first one (2011) made a grinding noise when breaking. After confirming it was not the ABS brakes and multiple attempts by the dealership and Kia to repair the car Kia agreed to replace it (with a reasonable charge for the mileage). The 2012 Sorento I purchased as a replacement started making the same noise after approximately 2 weeks. Kia has now says it is a common characteristic of Sorentos but it will not affect the safety or value of my car. Want to buy a 2012 Sorento with less than 10,000 miles that intermittently makes a grinding noise when you stop?

Good SUV - 2012 Kia Sorento
By jrgleason2003 - August 11 - 9:19 amI purchased the LX with the GDI Engine. So far I am impressed with the way it drives. I had a 2010 ford escape that was plagued with problems. Leith Kia in wendell, NC really worked with me to get me into a 2012 sorento. It really drives smooth, Im not sure why they say its a firm ride...has anyone rode in a civic? Thats a firm ride. I got the LX w/convenience pkg for a little over 23K. My only complaint is that at low speeds (idle or under 5mph), the GDI engine seems a little "rough". However it does accelerate VERY smoothly (smoothest tranny Ive felt) and gets up to speed adequately. The GDI engine wont blow your hair back or anything, but there is a little extra pep to get into traffic

Big Mistake - 2012 Kia Sorento
By justman - July 26 - 11:05 pmI bought a 2012 Sorento and only had the car for two months when things started to go really bad with it. Broken axles, motor mounts, transfer case, and the side panel was coming off. Kia fixed these issues because it was covered under warranty. On top of that the SUV did not handle well especially in the rain. I drove it home to DC from Charlotte and we were so thankful we made it safe. I fought with Kia wanting to get another one because that one was a lemon for sure, but they did Nothing! So, I got rid of it and bought another make and model. I do NOT recommend Kia at all. To top it all off, I thought I was saving money, but it wasnt that much cheaper than my new car.

A Major Disappointment - 2012 Kia Sorento
By mdawgg - July 18 - 8:14 pmAfter 150 miles the plastic seat belt retainer clips popped out of the interior sides they were supposed to be anchored to. I tried to put them back in but they would eventually pop out again. After 250 miles the engine began to idle rough, the transmission would go "clunk" when shifting up or down at slow speeds, and the car began to vibrate when driving on the highway. After 850 miles the rear view screen in the mirror for the backup camera began to have thick black lines across it. Sometimes the screen would go completely black. The car has only a little over 1000 miles on it, but I dread driving it for fear of having more things go wrong. I will never buy another Kia again.

Waited a LONG time for this! - 2012 Kia Sorento
By motowngirl1967 - July 5 - 8:59 pmI had to buy a new car--my 2003 Hyundai Sonata had 204,000 miles on it (and is STILL GOING STRONG) but the air conditioning died three years ago. A/C is a requirement here in Florida! After driving my 6 year old son around in it and making both of us miserable, I did my research and found that the Kia Sorento had the features on it that I wanted and, most importantly, at a price I could afford. I really liked the redesign, as well. I got great financing through Kia, as well. I have not regretted signing on the dotted line 48 hours ago, and I will not regret getting such a good-looking vehicle with a fantastic warranty.
