This Year's Model Updates:

The Sorento is an all-new SUV from Kia. Larger and more powerful than the pint-size Sportage (which is expected to return for 2004 after a 2003 hiatus, by the way), the Sorento straddles the emerging middle ground between small SUVs and midsize SUVs. And it does so while offering interested buyers true off-road ability. Key competitors are the Ford Escape, the Honda CR-V, the Jeep Liberty, the Nissan Xterra and the Toyota Highlander.

Pros:
  • Great value, class-leading warranty coverage, long list of standard features, solid construction, true off-road capability.
Cons:
  • Engine needs more power, subpar fuel economy, seat upholstery could stand improvement.

  • Outstanding! - 2003 Kia Sorento

Prior to shopping for a vehicle, I did quite a bit of internet research, and had narrowed my search down to 3 SUVs; the first one I rejected because front seat area just wasnt user-friendly. I checked out the Sorento....WOW! Everything about it is perfect, from the first time I opened the door to parking it in my driveway. Now when Im driving down the freeway, I not only "look good".....I look SMART!!!

No its a Kia Sorento! for the Past 3 years I have drove a 1999 Lexus Rx300, decided in stead of trading it in for another Lexus RX330 at 41000, I opted for the Kia Sorento 4x4 ex luxury Package for 27,500 fully loaded! It rides if good or not better than my Lexus RX300. With the money I saved I am driving my Kia Downtown!

I love this SUV. It is a smooth, solid ride with no excessive outside noise. It has all the options I wanted, no fancy do-dads I really wouldnt use. It is the right size for hauling the grandkids around, and all their stuff; plus I can actually load it up with animal feed for our farm without it being an all day project moving the seats, etc. I do have a complaint about it however, and that is the hood has developed small spots on it that have eaten through the clear-coat. Everytime I see another Kia Sorento, I look at the hood, and theirs is that way too--same place. The dealer says I parked it under a tree--but I NEVER have.

This has been a great car. Ive had it for three years and so far, no regrets. I also have a 2005 Dodge Durango and I still prefer to drive my Sorento.

Traded my 2000 Sephia for the Sorento. Love it so far. Delivered witrh tire presure too high..made ride harsh...deflated to 30PSI and now is prett ysmooth. Minor fit and finish issues that can be easily corrected by dealer.

I have had 2 explorers before and a mazda SUV.I went looking for another and decided that I being tall, could easily fit into this. My conclusion after 6 months is I dont see why you would NOT buy this. I have so many people ask me what is is since they like the lines. My frinds are buying them.

  • Fun and Comfort! - 2003 Kia Sorento

Im a 1st time SUV buyer and I dont think Ill ever buy another car again. I am very pleased with this vehicles performance. I feel safe and in control when driving it. Its fun and comfortable. The options are excellent for the price. Who would ever think you could walk out of a dealership with a fully loaded SUV for under $30,000??? I was hesitant about Kia at first, but with a 10 year warranty, Ill take my chances. So far, so good!

  • For the price, cant beat it - 2003 Kia Sorento

Well folks I read all the reviews here when I went to look at it and was very impressed. Most everyone loved it! Test drove a second time and was sold. Plenty of power, great ride, looks great, drives great, and saves me $100 bucks a month over my previous car the grand cherokee, with a fantastic waranty. I have never had so many people stop me to ask about the car I was driving.

  • I would buy it again - 2003 Kia Sorento

I bought this SUV in September and wanted to put at least 2000 miles on it before I followed up with a review. Like a lot of other people I had very little knowledge of the KIA product line, but found Edmunds and other websites invaluable when researching this car. So far mechanically this car has had only one problem, and that is the thermometer in the overhead console reads about five degrees away from a true temperature. This car has a quality that rivals any of the several Hondas that I have purchased in the past. I especially liked two other things about this vehicle and that is, it is built on a true truck frame and it has strikingly good looks.

  • My first mini-SUV - 2003 Kia Sorento

I found the Sorento more affordable in comparison to others in its class with the same amenities. It is both stylish and very comfortable for my needs. My mileage has been running l6.5 combined city/hwy. I did expect closer to 16 to 17 hwy. I am impressed with the way it handles bumps and dips, which in my other car hit both front and rear bumpers. What a relief. The selling point for me was the price and the warranty. It performs beautifully. To boot it looks so much like the Lexus I inadvertently mistook a Lexus SUV in the parking lot for mine and only realized it after my alarm would not work on it.
