This Year's Model Updates:

The Sorento is an all-new SUV from Kia. Larger and more powerful than the pint-size Sportage (which is expected to return for 2004 after a 2003 hiatus, by the way), the Sorento straddles the emerging middle ground between small SUVs and midsize SUVs. And it does so while offering interested buyers true off-road ability. Key competitors are the Ford Escape, the Honda CR-V, the Jeep Liberty, the Nissan Xterra and the Toyota Highlander.

Pros:
  • Great value, class-leading warranty coverage, long list of standard features, solid construction, true off-road capability.
Cons:
  • Engine needs more power, subpar fuel economy, seat upholstery could stand improvement.

  • Surprisingly Happy - 2003 Kia Sorento

I just bought my new 2003 Kia Sorento last week. Been enjoying it ever since. Couldnt be more pleased. First time to ever want to give a review, but car is worth the praise. Several friends suggested not to buy Kia, but when they saw my car, theyre anticipating buying one for themselves. I traded my Hyundai Santa Fe for the Sorento. Kia is impressive. Im a female buyer of cars, and am very proud of this choice.

All our friends thought we were crazy when we traded in the 96 Accord for the new Sorento...well the jokes on them. After 10000 miles in 2 months we love the Sorento more than when we bought it. Comfortable is the word and it has not had one thing go wrong yet (more than I can say for the Accord when it was new)..Kia did it right.

  • Piece of Junk - 2003 Kia Sorento

Second owner of this Kia sorento. Bought this car @ 53k only $9800.00 in 07 over a highlander and rav4 due to looks and price. I guess I got what I paid for. Within 2 months of purchase, you would have to say hell came with this car. First Climate control malfunctioned, then Windows power control, then one window power motor, then wiper motor assembly broke off, then rotors warping, then headlamp and brake lamp every other month, then Radiator fan gone out, the Ac compressor gone out, then now the car just wouldnt start anymore. Don"t ever buy a Kia, they are cheap and expensive the repair and maintenance.

  • Great Looking SUV - 2003 Kia Sorento

After Looking at Different SUVs, WE decided on the Kia Sorento EX 4X4.We loved the exterior look. It has that Lexas look. The price was good for all the features it has. It seems to be pretty quick. Its hard to review everyting about the Sorento right now as we have only had it a few days. One negative comment I have right now is the ride. On the highway, I didnt find the ride as smooth as I thought it should be. I felt too much vibration. The dealer said it was the short wheelbase, and too much air in the tires. It rode a little better after reducing the pressure to 30psi. Let you know more later.

  • Gotta get a Kia - 2003 Kia Sorento

I bought my new Kia EX loaded with leather package, moonroof, rear spoiler, ABS and Cargo tray after one test drive. My Nissan Pathfinder lease was up and I didnt want to lease again, but I wanted a reliable and fun SUV. The Kia has it all. I test drove a Saturn VUE and was not impressed at all. The Kia is an outstanding value for the money. I think we are going to see alot of Sorentos on the road very soon!

  • Love that truck... - 2003 Kia Sorento

Its a really nice truck with great styling inside and out with good fit, finish and quality... also plenty of power... great offroader, too... had no issues except a split overflow canister which was replaced under warranty... and break shudder comes into the picture once the rotors wear down... but can be avoided by installing better grade after market replacement rotors which are actually cheaper than the original ones...... otherwise my six year old Sorrento is still rock solid and running smooth... it is quiet on the road and comfortable compared to other SUVs out there... will replace it with the same model if it ever falls apart... but so far its holding up very well...

  • "Looks like a Lexus; its Affordable" - 2003 Kia Sorento

Being the proud owner of another Kia, with well over 100,000 trouble-free miles on it, we knew this was our next SUV. It is a beautiful vehicle and has received rave reviews from our "jealous" friends who love the style and color. During the recent 6 day "Storm Watch" with terrible driving conditions in the Pacific NW USA, our Kia handled the road like a "Hummer"! Nothing stopped it and we felt very safe inside. Of course, driving with some good old common sense helped also!

I have had the chance to drive my Kia in the snow this weekend and it did an amazing job! I love the look and the feel of my new SUV...and people even say it looks like a Lexus!

After test driving several mid size suvs, I fell in love with the Sorento as soon as I saw it. It drives great!

  • Pretty Good SUV - 2003 Kia Sorento

Like the veh except the ride. First off the suspension is too stiff. Second there is a high frequency viabration over 60 that drives me nuts. you can feel it in the seats, steering wheel and see it in the mirror. Also there is a roaring sound along with the vibration. I have had the tires balanced and checked for round. No luck. I took it to Kia. They changed the drive shaft. No luck. The factory rep, Great guy, had a engineer come from the factory. The drive shaft was changed again. No luck. The alignment was checked and was ok. They are now going to replace the gear box. If that dont work I get a new vehicle.
