This Year's Model Updates:

The 2003 Jeep Wrangler gets a new trim level: the Rubicon. All trims have been bestowed with an all-new 42RLE four-speed automatic transmission which is supposed to provide smoother-shifting, better highway fuel efficiency and quieter engine operation at highway speeds compared to the previous three-speed automatic transmission. The SE trim gets a new NV1500 five-speed heavy-duty tranny, which promises to improve shift quality in cold weather, along with a new, more potent 2.4-liter Power Tech inline-four. Available four-wheel disc brakes debut this year, along with a new fold-and-tumble rear seat that can be more easily removed. Finally, the Wrangler's interior has been refurbished for 2003; it gets new front and rear seats, a new electrochromatic rearview mirror with map lights, temperature and compass display (standard on Sahara, optional on Sport and Rubicon trims), and a new four-spoke steering wheel.

Pros:
  • Cheap, fun to drive, classic styling, go-anywhere capability.
Cons:
  • Soft top a handful to manipulate, difficult ingress-egress, slow steering.

  • Gently Used - 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Purchased it gently used with 31x10.5 tires already installed. Rides a lot better than the 97 I had previously driven. 2.4L has better horsepower than older models. Transmission and clutch operate very smoothly. Can hear some clunking into gear, and very stiff in the single digit temps of Iowa winter. High back seats are comfortable for long drives, but dont expect to get much above 65mph with the 4 cyl. Looking forward to spring off-roading.

  • Rubicon is good - 2003 Jeep Wrangler

After 12,500 miles with the Rubicon I am still amazed with where it will go and how much fun it is to drive. The Jeep Wrangler is the most fun vehicle to drive built today. The Rubicon Package makes it the most capable off highway vehicle on any dealer’s showroom floor. If you dont believe me just give it a try. Be careful though, you will get hooked.

Great Vehicle...Gotta punch it on the highway for passing or else your not getting much of a response, engine is weakest between 1200 and 1900 RPMs ...

Had this for several months - no problems, much smoother ride than my old 91 Jeep Wrangler!

  • 3rd Car - 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Ever since I can remember I have always wanted a jeep. I had planned on selling my truck but at the last minute I changed my mind. That makes it hard for me to tell if I would like it as well if it were my only vehicle. As for a 3rd car we love to zipp around town on the weekends.

  • Awsome Jeep Wrangler - 2003 Jeep Wrangler

I recently purchased my second Jeep Wrangler. My first was a 1995 Sahara. I loved it and had regretted selling it until I bought my new 2003 Jeep Wrangler Sport. It has the best motor Ive ever seen, the 4.0L I-6, that has plenty of power. A great 4- wheel drive system that has never failed me in snow, rain, mud, etc. It is comfortable, attractive, functional and the perfect size. No land yahct for me, thank you very much. By far the best all-around vehicle Ive ever had. Once you get one you will never want another SUV, or car for that matter.

  • Its a Jeep. - 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Purchased the car new, and have used it primarily as a toy. It has been very reliable and has not required anything but normal maintenance. This is a great car for weekends and vacations, but I would not recommend it for everyday use. It is also great in poor weather conditions. The ride is not super comfortable, but that is expected for the type of vehicle. The hard-top is difficult to negotiate, and it becomes an ordeal to remove each season. The exterior metal is thin and dents easily, and the car burns gas at an alarming rate. I replaced the air filter with K and N, and that improved mileage about 2 MPG. All that said, I still love my Jeep.

  • BUY A RUBICON! - 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Excellent truck, horrible on gas, easy to do work yourself, pulls large objects with ease (trees, vehicles stuck in mud). Eats gas though and be ready for frequent tire rotations. Also eats starters if you take it mudding.

  • Careful buying a Jeep they need to Fix! - 2003 Jeep Wrangler

I have wanted a Jeep Wrangler for a long time. Finally bought a used 2003 and after driving for approximately 20,000 miles I am now experiencing the "Death Wobble" If you havent had this happen with your Jeep you will!!! No real cure from what I am reading. Have to say I would not recommend buying a Jeep to anyone. Trying to fix the” Death Wobble” in my Jeep so I can sale the rig.

  • Nothing better to drive! - 2003 Jeep Wrangler
    By -

There truly is nothing better to drive than a Jeep Wrangler. I have a 02 Wrangler Sport 4.0L with 5-speed manual and you cannot beat the power and ability of this vehicle for its class. Interior / Exterior and everything about it sells me on the fact that I wont drive anything else. In fact my wife have one too if she wouldnt have already bought a Durango (Another Chrysler product of greatness)The only people that care that much about interior changes dont truly DRIVE a Jeep Wrangler. They just sit in it while its rolling.
