This Year's Model Updates:

The 2003 Jeep Wrangler gets a new trim level: the Rubicon. All trims have been bestowed with an all-new 42RLE four-speed automatic transmission which is supposed to provide smoother-shifting, better highway fuel efficiency and quieter engine operation at highway speeds compared to the previous three-speed automatic transmission. The SE trim gets a new NV1500 five-speed heavy-duty tranny, which promises to improve shift quality in cold weather, along with a new, more potent 2.4-liter Power Tech inline-four. Available four-wheel disc brakes debut this year, along with a new fold-and-tumble rear seat that can be more easily removed. Finally, the Wrangler's interior has been refurbished for 2003; it gets new front and rear seats, a new electrochromatic rearview mirror with map lights, temperature and compass display (standard on Sahara, optional on Sport and Rubicon trims), and a new four-spoke steering wheel.

Pros:
  • Cheap, fun to drive, classic styling, go-anywhere capability.
Cons:
  • Soft top a handful to manipulate, difficult ingress-egress, slow steering.

  • Great Jeep - 2003 Jeep Wrangler

I have had this Jeep for less than two months. It will make its own road in the snow (off road 12" deep up hill with ease), climbs hills with ease,it is awesome off road. It has all the extras that I wanted to put in my older Wrangler, Locking axles, great sound, Coil springs (awesome ride). Who needs an H2, When you could have this awesome Jeep Rubicon! It will go anywhere! With cash left over to buy a winch, trail rack etc.

Posting this comment to those who might be shopping for a jeep also. Have wanted one since I was 16 and now I am 41--been driving and paying for a Honda Accord for the last 5 yrs and cant wait to trade for a loud, bumpy, "wind in my face" jeep! Might have to work a 2nd job to pay for the jeeps drinking problem, but you wont here me complaining when my husband, Aussie, and I go to N Ga camping and hiking. We are going to get dirty, have dog hair everywhere and a smile on our faces! Thanks for all the consumer reviews-helps a lot in my decision to trade the Honda to a whining jeep owner.

After lusting after one for years I finally got myself a Wrangler. Its a convertible, an SUV a pick-up, an off roader, it does it all. If you want a perfect 2nd car and a week end fun machine, you could not ask for more.

I HAVE BEEN SO PLEASED WITH THE COMPLETE VEHICLE THAT I JUST WENT OUT AND ORDERED A NEW 2004 EXACTLY LIKE MY 2000. I WENT IN TO ORDER A NEW VEHICLE WASNT SURE WHAT I WANTED, SALESMAN ASKED ME HOW I LIKED MY PRESENT VEHICLE, I TOLD HIM IT DID EVERYTHING I WANTED IN A LEASURE TYPE VEHICLE. HE ASKED ME IF THERE WAS ANYTHING I WOULD CHANGE. THE MORE I THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT I WOULD BE GIVING UP IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE I MIGHT BUY LED ME TO ORDER A NEW WRANGLER JUST LIKE THE ONE I WAS TURNING IN. MY WIFE AND I ARE JUST APPROACHING RETIREMENT AGE BUT STILL LOOK FORWARD TO THE 900PLUS MILE TRIPS WE HAVE TAKEN AND WILL BE TAKING IN OUR JEEP.

  • Pathetic build quality. - 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Vehicle had 8 separate mechanical problems (all under warranty, but each requiring a dealer workshop visit). Latest problem was clutch failure (pedal just flopped onto the floor, totally inoperable) just 2 weeks after its 10k service, which specifically included an inspection of the clutch system. This incident happened without any warning, and could have been fatal. This is by far the most unreliable and poorly built vehicle i have ever owned. Build quality and reliablity are truly pathetic, and I have requested a full refund from the dealer.

Only one time in shop for warranty repair of defective multi-switch on steering column. My Wrangler has 5000 miles on it now. It is a 2002 TJ Sport.

  • This Vehicle is a Lot of Fun - 2003 Jeep Wrangler

This vehicle is really fun to drive and has a supringly great amount of comfort for a vehicle that is based on the premise that it will be used off road. The factory installed enhancements, normally installed after market, are engineered as a system, so this car doesnt misbehave, even at speeds up to 75 mph.
