This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has received refinements that improve its ride and handling. The suspension features reduced pressure shocks and the brake master cylinder output has been increased to improve brake pedal feel. There are also new brake calipers and a revised steering gear torsion bar. Available trims have been narrowed from five to three; the Sport and Special Edition trims have been discontinued. Standard on 2003 Laredo models is a new high-back cloth seat. Finally, in all Jeep Grand Cherokee interiors, a new cubby bin for holding sunglasses or cellular phones has been added to the instrument panel, replacing the ashtray.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability.

Living in the Sierras we certainly get our fair share of snowy and icy conditions during the winter months, our Grand Cherokee Limited handles these conditions with no problems at all, we especially like the Quadra- Drive system and the HO V-8. An all around great vehicle for people who have to commute in less than perfect conditions

Just bought a new 2003 JGC with the 4.7HO. I must say for ans SUV Im passing amost everything on the road. I mean this truck really cruises. A bit noisy and a bit bumby when truckin along, but thats exepcted...its a Jeep thing. Sound system cranks, the interior lighting is very clear and colorful (wife loves it)and its very roomy. Also very pretty looking truck.

We just put 52,000 miles on the Jeep in 3 years. The first 3 years were great, but as soon as we got to around 49,000 miles the issues started. First the heater went causing the AC and heat to stop ($600 in repairs) and now the car started bucking (as seen in another review) and thats going to cost me around $300. Of course this happens after warranty expires. Weve done all the maintenance work, but this sort of things should not happen on Jeeps top of the line car. Not worth it. Get the Laredo for 1/3rd less and save up for repairs.

  • Best of the rest! - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Bought to get rid of 2007 Tahoe incapable of towing my boat(up ramp) or parking without hitting a curb(no clearance). 3rd Jeep Grand Cherokee and best so far. Had to replace power steering hose, manifold gasket when i bought it but has been flawless ever since. Wife and daughter love the feel, fit, and finish of interior and exterior plus the power 0-60 --6-7 seconds. Like so much we bought a 2001 as well. If you use the internet you can easily find and fix any problem with a vehicle and save the dealer rip off and run-around. Every vehicle has problems even run away Toyotas.

Fan belt broke in 6 months after purchasing the Jeep, heater control panel broke down after a year, the brake pads broke within a year. When I keep bringing back my Jeep for repair, the service department is not very receptive to customers.

  • This is my 4th Grand Cherokee - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my 4th Grand Cherokee - the first 3 were Laredos and this new one is a Limited. I have never had any problems with any of them. I think they are great value. The salesman I used is Tom Patton with Park Cities and he was really, really awesome. I would recommend a Grand Cherokee and Tom to anyone.

  • Stuck With a Lemon - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This car was just unreliable. Within in one year the car started overheating. If it wasnt the radiator fan it was the relay. Twice udner warranty, and 3 other times out warranty. Was pricy to fix, but no one could figure out why it kept happening. 3 of the windows fell, one twice. Tail lights also crapped out. Radio went out once too. The tranny started giving me trouble so I got rid of the car. I had a problem with first gear, as the car only wanted to go take off in second gear. I let it go before I had to drop more money into it. It was a lemon but didnt fall under the definition of lemon.

  • To drive until it dies - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Have read some of the reviews in disbelief. I bought my Jeep 3 years ago at $4k with 190k miles,. Am a commuter for school and work. I put about 1,000 miles on the truck every week and since purchase, I have added 107k miles on the car but the thing wont die. Apart from regular maintenance, I have only worked on A/C blender doors yet everything else works as it should. At one point I parked the car for a small Honda to save on gas. After 3 months i started getting issues with the Honda and went back to my Jeep. Am not getting rid of it unless the motor dies.
