  • More Brake Problems - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I love my 2000 JGC,But.... I had the front rotors replaced at 18K and was told the replacement part had been redesigned and there would be no more problems. Well, were at 36K now and guess what? Yep, new rotors and pads again. They made me pay the first time, and I guess Ill have to pay again. Seriously considering whether to dump this vehicle or just keep buying new brakes every 18 months.

I have mixed emotions about my Jeep thus far. With only 37000 miles I had to get a new radiator. The a/c is ave. and I think I have a very small antifreze leak and sometimes the transmission seems to thump when I slow down to make a right or left turn. I really want to like this SUV. I have the Laredo with the limited package that includes the two tone leather seats that only comes with the Overland. In addition, it has the 4.7L engine, electric moon roof, second power seat, crome rims, wood grain dash panel and tow package. Its a shame that this SUV has a reliability problem. Because it has all the features and looks to blow the competion away.

Overall the 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4.0 2wd is very good, asl long as there are routine maintenance. After 175miles i use 5 qrts of20/50 oil with lucas oil, however i now receive a maintenance beeping sound without a readout in the cosole or engine light, normally it would display the problem...any ideas out there why/

Generally, I like the Jeep a lot. All things considered, mileage seems good for this type of vehicle at 18.5 average with a 70/30% split between local and hiway driving. The brakes seem weak, but most new cars do because they use those wimpy organic pads instead of the carbon metallic ones. My rotors warped and had to be replaced in the first 5000 miles (warranty). This was with just normal driving, not with towing anything. The new ones seem better.

  • Nice looking/Poor Quality - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Clearly the worse craftsmanship I have seen in a vehicle. It spent more time in the shop than any automobile I have heard of. Brakes are awful - I am on my FIFTH set of routers at 36000. The car looks great and the engine seems strong - but just about everything else has issues.

  • AGAIN - Brakes - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Less than 30K miles and two brake jobs later I went up to the dealer and they admitted that there is a TSB out to rplace brakes, but they do it only in extreme situations (hm, a lawsuit maybe?) and that did not apply in my case. They said it would be justified if I had two brake jobs in less than 10K (sic!) and really uncomfortable braking exeprience or trouble. I gave up. My car was paid off, so I quickly decided to get another one. Cant really be spending $500 on brakes ever year I owe it.

  • Not again - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Drives good, rides good, looks good but never too far from the shop. Driver side window regulator replaced twice, fuel gauge replaced, a kit installed on the fuel pump to fix a problem of hard starting, fuel pump quit working, replaced with another pump which quit after two weeks of driving. Radio speakers and tweeters replaced with regularity and finially just pulled dashboard tweeters out because even new ones would only last a month. Strut arms on hood and trunk are junk after about 2 years and I just keep replacing them. These were the problems which were the worst.

Great truck. Tranny issues have soured me a bit. Gas milage has been ok. 4.0 litre engine under performs. If you can, get the eight.

  • Its always been there for me - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

It never let me down since 12/00. Roominess: I easily transported 5 large dogs & 1 passenger. Easy handling: Temporarily I could only drive with one hand, it was manageable. Relative to height/width handles well in curves; turns tightly, in small areas. Breaks well – very responsive and tight. Gas mileage (use the vehicle’s weight!): 18.6/city. Highway – av. 72 mph - 24 mpg w/o AC, 22.6 mpg/w AC The cruise control leaves a lot to be desired uphill and downhill, where I saw a gain/loss of 5 mph. Both door locking devices went inoperable within 3 years. (1 under warranty, 1 a week after warranty ran out ($160 ea.)

  • Reliability "?" - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

The vehicle has a excellent general appearance both exterior and interior. Because of the need for a utility type vehicle, the Jeep was selected. On overall usage we rate the vehicle fairly close to outstanding. However reliability is another issue. Problems like coolant leakage resulting in replacing the head to resolve the problem, a minor transmission problem which divulged mismatched parts were installed, differential required total parts replacement. The saving grace was an outstanding service department that did not cut any corners when making the necessary repairs. This is the only auto I ever purchased extended warranty for and was probably the best decision I could have possibly made.
