I have not had any major problems with my Jeep. Only that there has been a loud clunking sound like the transmission when I start or stop. I have brought this to many Jeep dealers and was told this is normal...it is the quadra drive. Seems like such a feature should not be so embarrassing to have. Also, have replaced MANY sets of brakes. It does have great towing power and get-up. If you like a cushioned ride in a vehicle that feels like it is attached to the wheel by elastics this is for you. And forget interior room, especially in the back seat.

Good looking SUV, handles nice, power and traction is good, comfort is second to none, oh by the way that is when it is not in the shop. Had the SUV less than 18 months and had the drive train rebuilt. Bearings, shot, transmission pump making strange noise, replaced. Power window motor, both sides replaced, by auto body friend. Saved over $200 by going to him instead of dealer. AC, shot after 3 years. Never worked real well from day one. Also replaced by auto body friend. Saved over $300 by going to him instead of dealer

  • Dont Buy this Jeep or any Jeep - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I will never buy a Daimler-Chrysler product!!!!!! Since we bought this Jeep we have had numerous problems with the power windows until they were fixed by the dealer and finally stopped working for good. I spoke with a number of people who have had the same problems with the window plus more. If you want to buy a dependable car or suv look elsewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dont buy these products from JEEP!!!

I have 130,000 miles on the Grand Cherokee and am decently happy with it. I have had to change the transmission twice, but luckily my warranty covered it. The AC is going out and it gets AWFUL gas mileage but otherwise is a good car.

I would have to say that this is the best jeep ever built, I bought it a few years ago with 100,000 miles it currently have over 260,000 miles. It is in great shape minus the only problem I have come across and will complain about is the gas mileage Im glad I did not purchase the V8 version! I cant honestly say the only thing I have ever did to it was the reg services and a thermostat which is common.Other than that a great first car, Now proudly am buying a new Jeep Liberty I hope it holds up as well as my JGC limited , truly is a great car would recommend it to anyone. I am a little weary about the location of the gas tank though. Also it goes great in the snow never been stuck in up to 3fsnow

  • Poor workmanship - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The car has been more at the dealership than my 90 Mazda. Its electricals are extremely poor quality, and you can expect leakages in differentials every 2-6 months.

Pros: Great looking, great driving, comfortable SUV. Plenty of torque. Cons: Fuel mileage. Reliability. In 1.5 years, have had to replace tie rod ends, one front hub assembly, rear axle bearings, exhaust manifold gaskets, door control modules (for power windows and locks), crankshaft position sensor, striker switches in doors, HVAC unit, and the battery twice. Vehicle was purchased with 93k miles and is used primarily for commuting to and from work on rural roads--i.e., I dont drive it hard. Always left wondering what new problem will emerge.

At 57000 miles I had to repair the front gear box at 950.00 dollars. At 68000 miles I had to repair the back gear box at 950.00 dollars. Was not to happy. And two sets of front rotors in.

  • Will someone blow my Jeep up? - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ill highlight some of my favorite repairs. $300 - Front calipers rotors. $900 Rear bearings. $150 fuel pump regulator something or another. Anyone know why the steering wheel moans when you turn it? Is there supposed to be water inside the headlight assembly? Ok, why wont the cruise control engage? I love the fact that the HVAC control doesnt work anymore. Its stuck in the defrost mode! Looks like Im going to buy a 4runner. Oh, the gas shocks that hold the hood up...they dont like the cold, so make sure conditions are ideal the next time you need to check under the hood, or else you will find yourself literally "under the hood".

  • Oh well - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought a 99 Laredo 4WD. Since Ive had it, I have taken it for a warrenty fix 24 times. Uncalled for. The starter (4X), passenger window (3X), rear wiper motor (2X), rear Differential, electrical shorts..blah blah blah. Let me tell you, in between fixes, I love the Jeep dearly. If my friends were risk takers, I would say buy it and pray for a good one. Otherwise , stay away, far away and wait for an Audi- type turnaround for Chrysler.
