This Year's Model Updates:

Jeep expands the Grand Cherokee lineup for 2006 with the addition of a range-topping Overland trim level. It's been fitted with more standard luxury features and 5.7-liter V8. New standard features on all models include stability control and one-touch up-down front windows. Newly optional on the Laredo is the Quadra-Trac II four-wheel-drive system and an off-road package.

Pros:
  • Three available engines, excellent off-road ability, balanced handling, simple controls.
Cons:
  • Low-quality interior materials, small backseat, poor gas mileage with the big V8, ride can be bouncy over ruts.

This car is very fun to drive if you can get your hands on one. It is definitely a keeper but I will tell you one thing, dont buy it for gas mileage because it has none but you will pass everything on the street but a gas station.

This is my second Grand Cherokee. The first being a 1995 with V8 engine. This 2006 model has the 4.7 V8 and is terrible on gas in city driving ( 12- 13 MPG). On the highway it doesnt do better than 19 and averages around 18MPG. I did better with the old 318 in the 95 model. You would think after 10 years and less engine displacement Jeep could improve their mileage ratings. With only 8,000 miles on it I am beginning to see the telltale signs of future issues...like the outside temp gage display isnt working properly and the engine has a ticking sound like old lifters or someting. If I have the same issues with this Jeep that I had with the old one its good by Chrysler and never again.

Prior to this SUV, I had a Chrysler Sebring LXI. I really needed an SUV for my new baby (born in May). Ive been pretty satisfied with it until my air bag light started going on. I was about 100 miles before my 6000 mile service and today took it to the dealer at 6100 miles. They said no code was recorded and that the system would be reset. Guess what, not even 1/2 mile down the road and the light comes back on. Went back to the dealer (with my 5 month old baby) and they tell me no code again. Ive been researching all night and found that this has been happening since 1998. Cant Jeep fix this? Im worried about the future. I need reliability! Saw that 02 models are having window problems. Yikes!

We have had few problems with our Jeep. We got it in May 2005. There is a recall on a part for the transmission so that was fixed but our check engine light kept coming on, and we barely drove our Jeep anywhere; it was a problem with the shifter. It was repaired after a few days, when they finally figured out what was wrong. Im a stay at home mom so we barely drive it. I love driving it though I used to drive a Civic. What a difference. The only complaint is the trunk. I barely have room for a stroller let alone anything else.

Ive had this car for over three years and put over 75,000 miles on it. It now has 102,000. Overall Ive enjoyed owning the vehicle. The Limited model fit and finish is great and makes it a luxury type vehicle. MPG is what it is....you know what your getting when you buy a V8. The AWD/4X4 system is great but sucks down gas. So far Ive had only one major problem. Engine light was coming on at around $50,000. Turned out to be the Quadra- Drive Transfer Case which had to be replaced at the tune of $2,000...wasnt happy about that. Since then no mechanical problems. I prefer to drive this vehicle over my wifes Nissan Murano and her previous Saab 9-3 2.0T Convertible.

The more we drive this Jeep with the 5.7 liter engine, the more we love it. Terrific acceleration when needed and effortless acceleration when speed is not needed. The ride is good and the seats while good, are not as good as those in our 1998 Limited. We traded a 2004 Infinity with a Bose high end system and the Boston Acoustics system in the Limited is simply better. Someone did their homework on this system and it simply sounds great. Gas mileage so far is about 15 in city and 20 on highway; as advertised. Actually this is quite remarkable considering it is just about the same as our 98 Limited which has 100 horsepower less and substantially less torque.

This is a gas hog in city driving and I drive it as gently as possible! Good MPG on the hwy at steady speed. Rear window and rear pillars too thick, blind spots. Tire pressure monitoring system comes on in cold weather for no reason. Interior finished with plastic, plastic and more hard plastic. Too much interference from traction control on icy streets, impossible to turn if off completely.

I bought my car in 2007. I was excited about getting an American vehicle instead of an Asian car. But after having some minor problems, I learned that it was very much expensive to keep up with the replacement of this vehicle as oppose to an Asian vehicle. My warranty stinks. My navigation had problems, and when I took it to the dealer, they made me pay them $100 just to tell me that I had to buy the new CD to replace my navigation. I was pissed off about that. Another thing was the back middle seat belt got stuck, and wouldnt pull down. The dealer did not cover for that either. Overall, the dealer warranty stinks! I pay an additional $40.00 per month for warranty for nothing!

Ive had my Grand Cherokee SRT-8 for about 2 years. It is so much fun! It is not a daily driver of course, with low gas mileage, but for trips to the mountains, or beach there is no better performance and utility value out there. The engine is just incredible and the sound of the exhaust is awesome. Ive only had troubles with the electrical windows which were fixed. I dont think well see a vehicle like this, with 425HP, available in the auto world much longer, Im glad I have mine.

i have this jeep with now 120,000 miles on it withe 4.7 v8. its been very reliable so far just the regular maintenance. my only complain is the passenger side airbag sensor light is on for a long time now. i drive it like crazy everyday. im lead foot driver so i only average 13 miles a gallon doing 60%city and 40% highway. by lead foot i mean full throttle while accelerating if you want this vehicle to be reliable put castrol synthetic oil every 3000 miles or 3 months whatever comes first. jeep pulls great with a lot of low end torque. i will say i does got some minor electrical issues. dah!!! its a jeep it gonna always have some of those.
