Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • Like no Jeep Ive ever had - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought the loaded Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.7L Hemi. First of all, I have owned 2 other Grand Cherokees, a Wrangler Sahara and a regular Cherokee. While I liked all my Jeeps, this new one is by far the best. It is a rocket ship ... so fast in fact, there arent too many cars out there that I cant leave in the dust. Because I do tend to have a heavy foot, my gas mileage suffers somewhat. I guess lately, because the novelty of the Hemi power is still with me, Ive been getting around 12 or 13 mpg. Thats ok for now, but if the gas hits 3 bucks, I may have to resort to my "old lady" driving patterns to save a few bucks. Comfort is unreal. I love this car and would highly recommend it!

  • One big shiny let-down! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My husband and I purchased this vehicle to have something safer and more dependable for our future family. We have barely owned this thing for a little over a month and it has been in the shop for its forth time now! After putting the first full tank of gas in it after purchase we got a check-engine light. Was not fixed the first time so we had to take it back in for a second and third visit. Now the lights on the dash panel flash on and off, check engine light still comes on, gauges fluctuate, and the automatic trans will not shift when driving. I am very disappointed. We are giving the dealership one more chance to make this right then we are done with it.

I have the 5.7L Hemi and have added a performance chip and cold air intake. This made the Jeep awesome off-road and fun in-town. I love going on the trails, and then beating performance sedans in town.

  • Refinement and New Technology - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This previous Jeep GC owner (1993 & 1996 models) left the fold in 2001 for a Pathfinder. Limited supply on the new 2005 Nissan led me to the new JGC Limited. What a surprise! Nothing like the Grand Cherokees of the 90s. Exterior styling is sharp, the 2005 is feature rich, the 4.7 has more than adequate power to climb the on-road hills and passes in the Colorado Rockies, steering is very responsive and the cabin is quiet. In four words "refinement and new technology" and perhaps influence from the Daimler folks have created an exciting vehicle thats nimble and fun to drive. Interior plastics, backseats and cargo capacity leave room for improvement, but the new JGC is a winner!

Dealerships fail to stand behind this very marginal vehicle. Although very nice looking even with an extended warranty (dont waste your money), you will pay, pay, pay. Small things like the transmission will keep you in the repair shop until you go broke.

Saw this car at a local dealer had 48K on it and ended up trading an 08 wrangler for it. I bought this car with the intention of running it into the ground over the next few years but it doesnt look like it is going to last to much longer. It now has 68K on it a little over a year later and I have had a lot of problems with it. It ran good to start out with but then out of the blue I came to a stop on an off ramp and it stalled out. No warning, no engine light, nothing. This has been an issue ever sense. Dealer doesnt know what is causing it. They have replaced EGR valve and the throttle response censor but the issue and a few others still stand. Other then the stalling the truck shifts rough at times, after putting in drive engine will not rev above 2 grand and act as if it wants to cut out. Engine light code reads cylinder 2 misfire but the dealer doesnt know whats causing the rest. Over all the car is good looking, and mostly comfortable. When running properly the car has plenty of power with the 4.7 V8 and it sounds great. Love all the features.

  • Never again... - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My car is in the shop once again for transmission issues. The engine malfunction light is getting to be my constant driving companion. Not only is the vehicle a gas hog (dont believe the window sticker folks) but its totally unreliable. And the service I receive at the dealership matches the vehicle: SUB- PAR. No wonder the big three are in so much trouble...you get what you give.

I am on my fourth Jeep and this one is the best yet. Has most all the features you would expect from a Limited model. I got the Hemi engine and it is a reminder of the older V8s that would get you to 60 in seconds. Wonderful vehicle if you can afford to keep the tank full.

I just got my Grand Cherokee and it is wonderful. I have never felt such a smooth ride. The power is another must have. I love it.
