Overview & Reviews
The new-for-'99 Grand Cherokee contains only 127 carryover parts from the previous model, and gets a new powertrain, rear suspension, braking and steering systems, 4WD system, interior and exterior styling.
- Still looks like a Jeep. Better engine performance and handling. Safety.

Good once its fixed - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By CJ Marz - March 30 - 2:00 amI have the usual brake shimmy and a little drivetrain noise but other than that, after 63000 miles its working well after 7000 dollars worth of waranty repair. If Jeep can get this one right the first time, its an awesome purchase. Dont count on MOPAR to get it right the first time though. They just dont have the track record.

Not a Jeep fan! - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By carolina girl - March 24 - 8:50 pmI purchased my Jeep new in 1999 with 50 miles. I now have 133,000 miles. I had a new transmission replaced the first month i owned it in 1999. I have also replaced the brakes front and back numerous times (recalled in 1999) including front calipers this year. I have fixed the rear suspension differential twice. The water pump in 2004. My key doesnt open the driver door and hasnt in 4 years so I have to use the keyless remote. The drivers side seat is broken. In spite of all the money and repairs made my Jeep still rides just like its brand new. I have kept it serviced well over the years but I just dont think this vehicle is made to last. This will be my last Chrysler Jeep vehicle.

Could be better, could be worse - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By collin - March 21 - 5:43 pmThis was my first car, and Im actually selling it today. All-around, its a great car; however, the gas mileage is horrible. My girlfriend gets 30-40 mpg in her Hyundai, and I trail behind at a wimpy 13-17 mpg. Not to mention, it takes quite a sum of money to put gas into it. Air bag sensor is faulty and beeps as it pleases. I had to replace some trans. sensors (had trouble shifting to 2nd and 3rd gears); drivers side dual-climate ctrl didnt work (found out this is common in 99s). Being 10-11 years old, though, it was still a good first car. The leather seats got way too hot in the summertime.

Just - Empty - Every - Pocket - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Flat Broke - March 14 - 10:00 amI bought this vehicle with 30000 miles. It was a program vehicle. Everything was fine until I reached 75000 and then the wheels came off. In the past two months Ive replaced the gas tank, radiator, leak detection mechanism, accumulator, and numerous other things. I should have paid more attention to the reviews. Never again.

Gr Cherokee - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By jeffersonmin - February 23 - 10:00 amA note to everyone with brake problems: There is a rotor fix now. It is a caliper/pad assembly that changes something so the rotors wont warp anymore. No other problems.

Never again! - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Ginger Harrill - February 5 - 10:00 amThis Jeep has been nothing but a headache. The mechanical problems I have had with it: both front power windows (twice), the fuel gauge, replaced brake pads and rotors, the back seat cup holder had to be replaced, trim strips around the sunroof, drivers door window, and rear liftgate all came loose. The loose trim strip around the liftgate caused the spare tire well to fill with water, rusting the spare wheel. The CD player quit working. The transmission had to be replaced at 23,000 miles due to an ear-splitting whine. The only consolation is that all of this occurred in the first three years/36,000 miles while it was still under warranty.

Fool Me Once - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jaded - January 25 - 1:23 amI wanted to buy a 97/98. Instead, I fell in love with the 99 styling. Ive regretted this for the last 8.5 years. The locks lock/unlock at random, AC fan whines at random, the car shut off while driving at 60mph because the computer didnt recognize the chip in the key, the engine fan relay drained the battery twice, CV boots crack easily, the transmission shifts into 2nd too early, the dashboard and console lights dont always turn on, and the door upholstery cracked. Jeep was only able to fix the chip problem. Ill never buy another Jeep.
