This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has received refinements that improve its ride and handling. The suspension features reduced pressure shocks and the brake master cylinder output has been increased to improve brake pedal feel. There are also new brake calipers and a revised steering gear torsion bar. Available trims have been narrowed from five to three; the Sport and Special Edition trims have been discontinued. Standard on 2003 Laredo models is a new high-back cloth seat. Finally, in all Jeep Grand Cherokee interiors, a new cubby bin for holding sunglasses or cellular phones has been added to the instrument panel, replacing the ashtray.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability.

If you read a lot of the reviews here, it seems a lot of people have had very negative experiences with their Jeeps. I guess I am one of the lucky ones! After almost one year and almost 20k miles of ownership, I have never had a single problem. Not one! In total, I have 70k miles on the vehicle and it still looks and feels new. And, when it comes to bang for the buck, I could not be more pleased. I was cross- shopping 00-02 Range Rovers when I bought this Jeep, and the Jeep is more comfortable, more powerful, and far more reliable. Find a well-cared for example and you will not be disappointed!

We bought this car used with 24k and it had no problems whatsoever, but after the 15 day return of the vehicle we have had nothing but trouble ever since. It has been to the dealer more than 3 times. It shakes really bad when you drive it and the air will not work unless it is on lo of you put it any higher the car will break down. The check engine light is constantly on and has been reset. We have owned a jeep before and just had a few problems with it but I would not recommend any type of jeep to anyone. With all the money we have spent on parts it should work just fine even though it has 80,000 on it. Every time it goes to the dealer there is always something with it. So dont buy one.

  • good but could be better - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

It has been a good auto. We have had only one problem with the power window, but it was still under warranty and was fixed with no problems. We previously owned a 95 Explorer. The Jeep has a lot better ride but the Explorer drove better. As far as power they are about equal. We have the 6 cylinder, I would suggest going with the V8. The 6 cylinders fuel mileage is poor and lacks power.

On my second wj, this time a v8. Pretty fun vehicle, transmission went out at 150k miles but dealer paid for a new 1. Only reason this 1 is my last is because I now want a wk2. Love my v8 power & sound. Love these things

Despite the horrible accident, the Grand Cherokee was a very good vehicle. I was hit by 2 cars and walked away with only a stuff neck...not bad. I had my Laredo for 3 months and really liked it. It doesnt ride as smoothly as other SUVs in its class, but I felt safe, secure and compfortable behind the wheel. They made some changes from the 99 model I had which I dont like - - the 2003 doesnt come with crossbars for the roof rack, they made an extra step in the "fold the back seat down" process, the front and back seats are made of less-expensive material and it doesnt come with floor mats. Despite this, I would recommend this vehicle.

I moved on from a 2002 Honda CRV to a 2003 Jeep Grand since I really missed having a nice engine that could move. What I found out so far, this SUV is more comfortable, handles better, interior feels better.

Great leather interior, all time 4wd provides great grip on road or off. Acceleration could be better, but I would have to pay for the acceleration of a larger motor at the gas pump. The 4.0 is good for me.

  • Never should have bought it - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Where to begin... Bought our 03 out of state at Crest in NH with apprx 60 thousand miles on it. From the week we drove it home I had to return it to the dealership 4 times for faulty hoses being put in it. From there we have had the following issues: 1.Radiator replaced 2.Passenger door window mechanism replaced 3.Interior lights have stopped working multiple times 4.AC/Heater only comes out of the window vent 5.Rust coming through on the back wheel well 6.Cooling fan just went on it 7.Hood doesnt stay open 8.Seals on all doors leakes water when rains 9.Shocks have been replaced. IT BROKE DOWN WHILE I WAS TESTDRIVING A VEHICLE TODAY!!! *SIGH*

  • The Jeep Overland Rocket - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I just purchased my 03 Overland and this Jeep is not only loaded with luxury, it is loaded with power. That HO engine is amazing! Quite honestly, I have never driven an SUV with so much power that handled so well. I almost bought a Yukon because I wanted the power and could only find it in a big SUV. I purchased the Overland because I got the power I wanted without the hassle of parking such a big vehicle. Besides, this is the sharpest looking SUV on the road.
