  • Never a Problem - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I leased the Jeep for 36 months and then purchased it. Gas mileage 19 - no real problems except for 3 re-call notices in first 2 years. All covered by Chrysler. Long haul driving can be rough on lower back, but otherwise I love my Jeep.

  • ...and, more brakes! - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I think that this is a terrific vehicle except for the brakes! Just turned 30K and received my 3rd set of front rotors. Granted, Jeep has been paying for them, but youd figure that they might want to fix this "little" glitch. Also, I wish that the front seat backed up a little more (Im 63"). Other than that, the vehicle is terrific! Handles Minnesota winters with ease (no small task!) Ill just keep putting rotors on as long as they keep paying for them.

  • After 4 1/2 years, we traded it in - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I enjoyed my Jeep the 4 years we had it. But like another reviewer said, make sure you can afford to maintain the vehicle. I loved driving this car, I always felt safe in it. One problem it seemed with mine was that I always needed new tires. I think I had at least 4 flat tires the years we had it. Not including buying two new sets of tires. The speakers in the top of the dash blew after my husband turned the stereo up way too loud. Finally the radiator and fan blew, then the water pump twice, and the thermostat. (also had to get a new motor for the driver window) Gave up after that.

  • Brake problem with this Jeep - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This jeep has been in the shop at least 6 times in 2.5 years. Brakes are the big issue. We have had the front rotors surfaced 3 times in 30K miles. We know two other friends who have Grand Cherokees both with brake problems similar to ours. Chrysler will not warranty after 12K miles. They say it is a wear issue and they are not responsible. My wife drove a Ford Tempo for over 100K miles without touching the brakes. We will not buy another jeep/chrysler/MB due to the poor customer service. The customer service reps have actually told us to go buy other brands because they do not want our business. Also had the power windows repaired/replaced twice.

I love my 2000 JGC,But.... I had the front rotors replaced at 18K and was told the replacement part had been redesigned and there would be no more problems. Well, were at 36K now and guess what? Yep, new rotors and pads again. They made me pay the first time, and I guess Ill have to pay again. Seriously considering whether to dump this vehicle or just keep buying new brakes every 18 months.

  • Dont buy one! - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have had my Jeep in the shop more then any other car I have owned in 25 years! the transmission was bad, the u joints needed replacing at 35k miles its had at least 3 recalls i have taken it in for. The back brake light works when it feels like it. I notice 9 out of 10 jeeps I see also have brake light problems. Now My drive shaft is out! I am not a crazy driver to work and home and occasional vacation. look up recalls for jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo its incredible how many there are. I like the way the jeep looks but will never buy another one.

  • Never again! - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Never again with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have learned my lesson. Brake rotor problem is famous...I replaced 4 times in 50,000 miles. Had to have $1500 worth of transmission work done at 45000 miles... I will not be buying another Jeep ever. Foreign cars, here I come! I was a Jeep fan until this.(i also own a 98 Cherokee, which performs admirably)

  • Expensive Vehicle-Poor Quality / Reliab. - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I was initially pleased with the Grand Cherokee, but after a multitude of problems, i.e.- broken door locks, defective weather stripping, hetaed seat failure, and replacement / repair of front brakes 3 times by 37,000 miles. The dealer was completely uncooperative and I was forced to write a letter to the CEO of Daimler-Chrysler for North America, Dr. Dieter Zetsche. If you decide to buy anyway look up the TSBs- Technical Service Bulletins on theinternet first as it may discourage your purchase.

  • The Jury is still out on the JGC - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have mixed emotions about my Jeep thus far. With only 37000 miles I had to get a new radiator. The a/c is ave. and I think I have a very small antifreze leak and sometimes the transmission seems to thump when I slow down to make a right or left turn. I really want to like this SUV. I have the Laredo with the limited package that includes the two tone leather seats that only comes with the Overland. In addition, it has the 4.7L engine, electric moon roof, second power seat, crome rims, wood grain dash panel and tow package. Its a shame that this SUV has a reliability problem. Because it has all the features and looks to blow the competion away.
