This Year's Model Updates:

New exterior cladding has been slapped onto the Laredo, and both models have received interior touch-ups. Two-wheel drive is available with the 4.7-liter V8. Shale Green and Silverstone are the new skin tones.

Pros:
  • Flawless 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain vehicle.
Cons:
  • Gear whine, brakes feel slow to respond.

  • Another great Jeep for our lineup - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Have numerous XJ Cherokees that have proven themselves time and again for reliability and capability. Was hesitant to add a Yuppie Jeep to the lineup, mainly because the creature comforts kinda took away from the hardcore Jeeping mentality that we have. But all in all, this has proven us wrong. Who says you cant have an extremely reliable vehicle AND be comfortable at the same time?

The brakes need alittle touch-up, but nothing to worry about.

  • Terrible Brakes-Recall??? - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have returned this vehicle once due to the brakes grabbing due to poor rotors. It once again needs returned with 24,000 miles. My friend with a 99 LTD has returned his once and again needs it with less than 20,000 miles. Electric windows have been a problem as well. I had one fixed at 12,000 and need another at 25,000

  • Brakes , Brakes, Brakes - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I desperately want to love this vehicle, but 3 brake repairs by 35,000 miles (and another one soon to come) has ruined my dream. Only other problem has been some cheap interior molding/weather stripping on the inside of the door (hey Daimler-Chrysler, time to stop using Elmers School Glue and use some real adhesive). Our lease expires next month. I was tempted to buy it out, but I foresee 1 or 2 $500 brake jobs per year in my future if I go that route. Perhaps Ill give the 2004 Jeeps a shot (at least they give us a "loyalty" discount for being a current Jeep owner).

  • No Problems w/37k mi - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I havent had any of the problems Ive read about. This is my 3rd Grand Cherokee (3 Yr leases). I have 37k miles so far, my lease is up in Jan03. Gas Mileage is poor, 17mpg with 4.0 engine. My 95 got 23mpg, my 97 got 21mpg. Handling, comfort, perfomance are fine, Infinity stereo is excellent. I was going to buy this one, but after reading all of the problems, maybe not.

  • a few problems - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Overall, this is an OK vehicle. My major complaints are the same as everyone elses...brakes warped at 12K, dealer machined for me free but they are bad a again at 24K. Have 26K now and realize Jeep has a TSB otu on the brakes. Dealer is supposed to add a kit to spread the pads further from the rotors and replace the rotors and pads for free. Heritage in Bel Air, MD wont so this for me. Unsure highway driving as steering is a bit loose. But everything else is OK.

  • Figured they would have fixed it by now - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have a JGC with only 34,000. It has been in for service consistantly for the alignment, but the dealer says there is nothing wrong, every Jeep does pull to the right, it has what they call a Natural Drift. Well I have to hold on tight down the highway since it wants to go right all the time. Breaks need to be redesigned, controls, seats are good. Whinning noise in from the drivetrain, but heard thats norm, well I am not sure I would buy this one again. Thinking about writing a letter to Chrysler how dissapointed I am.

  • Your get out what you put in... - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Picked up used, pre-owned by a little old lady...really! Recently took care of 60K maintenance at independent dealership, saved 100%-175% off of dealership service quotes. Absolutely love this vehicle! All options except V8, heated seats, and digital heat/ac. Better than Ford & Chevy SUVs (many experiences w/both) in numerous areas. 2000 and forward has been much better for these vehicles. Take care of your vehicle, including ALL maintenance as suggested, dont drive like a teenager, and your vehicle will take care of you.

  • I love it - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought my 2000 JGC Laredo used last year. Previously, I had owned a 1998 Cherokee, the most basic kind. With the ease of being able to work on the 1998 Cherokee myself, I was a little skeptical of buying something that I may not be able to work on, what with all the do-dads and such. But so far, the only problem Ive had with my 2000 JGC has been the brake system. I knew going into the sale that this would need to be fixed. Luckily, the brakes were as easy to change on my 2000 as they were on the 1998. So far, I couldnt have asked for a better used vehicle. I dont know that Ill ever own anything other than a Jeep again. I hope my luck lasts!

  • Need to work out the kinks - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my first JGC and I really enjoy driving it. It still looks great and the engine runs like a champ (4.7 V8). However, the little problems have added up and it may be time for a change. I have replaced door locks, power seat motors, a water pump, and multiple sets of rotors (brakes are below average for such a nice SUV). My biggest disappointment has been the A/C. It goes out intermittently and the service department cant seem to find the problem. Ive heard other Jeep owners mention similar issues, so I think the company needs to address these things.
