This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has received refinements that improve its ride and handling. The suspension features reduced pressure shocks and the brake master cylinder output has been increased to improve brake pedal feel. There are also new brake calipers and a revised steering gear torsion bar. Available trims have been narrowed from five to three; the Sport and Special Edition trims have been discontinued. Standard on 2003 Laredo models is a new high-back cloth seat. Finally, in all Jeep Grand Cherokee interiors, a new cubby bin for holding sunglasses or cellular phones has been added to the instrument panel, replacing the ashtray.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability.

  • Pretty Good, So Far - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I chose the Grand Cherokee over rival suvs for value and perceived "heavier duty". For the last three years, its been a good performer. Id like better gas mileage (getting about 17-18 MPG in mixed driving with six cylinder). No major repairs. Dislikes: $200 cost to drain/refill differentials; significant rust on all lower window sill trim. Ive noticed the sill trim rust on virtually every Grand Cherokee Ive looked at with the same body style as mine. Replacement Dunlop Radial Rover tires much, much better than oem Goodyear Wrangler ST for traction and handling, although I think I may have lost some fractional MPG. Manual 4x4 lever takes considerable effort to move, although its not a major flaw.

My 2003 Jeep GC is almost new!!! because I have had every thing replaced in it. Some very common problems are fan relay, rotors, window mechnism, interior lighting, rusting, hydrolics to hold hood and hatch door, wipers. I also have had problems with parking gear, reverse transmission, front axle, radiator, all bushings are rotten, air bag mechanism has malfunctioned, CD player makes clunking sound, turn signalling system has malfunctioned, has lot of air noise, a/c is smelly, all shock absorbers have been replaced, brake claipers have jammed front wheels. Dealships are bad, expensive, non-courteous, time consuming. Will never buy it again, will not recommend anyone to buy.

My then girlfriend, now wife, was thrilled with the jeep, for the first 6 months. Then the little stuff started; bad locks and windows, rattles and squeeks...We got married...now its summer, shes pregnant, NO A/C... 4 trips to the dealer....still NO A/C...and they actually managed to undo a lock fix they did 6 weeks ago....Now, we are trying to get a loaner, wife is due soon, not sure when/if jeep will be fixed....

My 4th Grand Cherokee and thus far the best! Suprising performance from the 4.7 HO engine, best build quality to date and a teriffic 70,000 mile powertrain warranty. This vehicle takes on the luxury imports (MB & BMW) and wins on every feature and specification. A tremendous value for the price!

  • Jeeps are the most reliable vehicles - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have had my 2003 Laredo for 7 months and would not trade it for anything. When I got it, I had to replace the main cylinder valve which cost $200. A couple of months ago the window motor and regulator went out and had to be replaced. It was very easy to replace and took less than 15 minutes. To replace it cost $100. I dont understand why so many people do not like their Jeep. Yes some things arent perfect on them but that is expected out of every vehicle. They are very safe and reliable. Ive saw jeeps that have been flipped 6 times and driven home or some that have been hit going 75 mph into an embankment and still driven home. I will not drive anything other than a Jeep.

  • Its a jeep thing I dont understand - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought my Grand Cherokee to replace my 13 year old Isuzu because it was begging to have minor mechanical issues. In hindsight I should have stayed with the old truck. Numerous electrical, cooling/heating, suspension problems which cost $$$. The transmission was unrefined and did not handle mountain driving.

  • GREAT RIDE - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive had my new Jeep for about 2 months, and I been nothing but impressed. The jeep is so solid, its like driving a tank and a cloud at the same time. The fold down seats provide for alot of room, it rides great but the gas mileage leaves something to be desired. Also, a minor problem. On the bottom of the car under the passenger side, there is a bit of paint missing, and is beginning to rust, you wouldnt know unless you bent down to look at it. im sure itll be fix w/o a problem.

  • Very Hppay with New Jeep - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my first Jeep (previosuly had had two Rodeos that were okay). Especially enjoy the leather seats and 10-CD changer. We drove from Okla to LA in December and the drive was great and gas mileage 19 to 20, which was as good as the Rodeos. Had to have a rear-end leak checked in late January, but the dealer fixed the problem immediately. Already have 6,000 miles and couldnt be happier.

  • Cherokee - most bang for the buck - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I just gave up my 1999 Dakota for a laredo with the 4.0 I had the 5.2 V8 in the dodge and to tell you the truth the 4.0 feels better and more powerful all around. If you compare starting prices with the trailblazer and envoy you will find you are getting more quality features for the money with the jeep, and lets be honest trailblazer has a nice name but i wouldnt dream of taking that off the highway- nobody beats a jeep prowless offroad
