For 2003, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has received refinements that improve its ride and handling. The suspension features reduced pressure shocks and the brake master cylinder output has been increased to improve brake pedal feel. There are also new brake calipers and a revised steering gear torsion bar. Available trims have been narrowed from five to three; the Sport and Special Edition trims have been discontinued. Standard on 2003 Laredo models is a new high-back cloth seat. Finally, in all Jeep Grand Cherokee interiors, a new cubby bin for holding sunglasses or cellular phones has been added to the instrument panel, replacing the ashtray.

Never buying a Jeep again. - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By darktiger - August 29 - 2:00 amI remember when Jeeps were reliable. Now they are not built the way they use to be. I bought a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I drove it 48,000 miles and in that time I have gone through 3 fuel pumps, 2 seats, 1 steering column, 2 window motor/modulators. Now I traded and got a 2003 Jeep. Guess where it is, it is in the shop. Great place for a new Jeep.

Multiple Problems - Will never buy another - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By j smith - June 11 - 1:40 amWhat a huge let down. We have had issues with ours nonstop. The check engine light comes on indicating a problem. The dealer charges a diagnostic fee of about $95.00 to tell you why the light comes on. The first time was because the gas cap wasnt tight, the second (about 6 months later) because the gas cap had a crack. Each time at a cost of $95.00. The engine light is now on again (3 months since the last $95.00). My air conditioner wont get cold and the heat wont get hot. This began after 1.5 years. We also had to replace a fan relay at 18 months ($325.00). I was just over my 36,000 mile warranty. I spend less to maintain my 10 year old Toyota! I should have purchased from them again instead.

Would drive it off a cliff - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By SAJ - April 19 - 12:23 pmI bought what I thought was going to be a good looking reliable vehicle. I had a Chevy Caprice for over 13 years and was looking to find something I would love as much. I looks HOT! But looks are deceiving. It is 03 and still looks brand new even without a good car wash. BUT... The piece of junk has spent more time in the shop than any vehicle in earth history except maybe another Jeep Grand Cherokee. Seat Heater, Brake rotors, 5 complete sets of brakes and rotors. Shimmies really bad after about 6 months of new brakes. The heater sensor something , air conditioning lvr things, cruise control, battery goes dead, electrical shorts but nobody can tell me why. Would not sell to my worst enemy.

Very Sad - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By GWE - October 23 - 3:53 amOur Jeep started bucking and becoming undriveable at 5000 miles. This is intermittent and has caused several delays on family trips. The manufacturer just says, "bad gas". They did extend our warranty to 70,000 miles, free. Big deal, the car is not reliable. They have yet to find the problem. We are going on three years of this. Tomorrow we go to "Lemon Law" court with the manufacturer. Wish us luck.

2003 Jeep or Heap? - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By GRUNE - June 29 - 12:56 amWhen I first bought the Jeep I loved it. Fun to drive, looks great. Now it has become a hazard and fear to drive. It loves to just quit for no reason. I could be on the highway going 60 MPH and it just quits! Then trying to steer off the hwy with no power steering is always fun. It also likes to buck, or just shut off when slowing down for traffic lights or turns. I now hate driving it. I have taken it to several mechanics and they use the computer to read the codes and all it tells them is "Vapor Locks" None of them can fix it. They all tell me to get rid of it. I cant because I still owe to much. So I will drive it til the wheels fall off or it kills me.

Never Again... - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Dissapointed - November 10 - 8:10 pmThis was the first vehicle I bought brand new. If I have ever had a vehicle nickel and dime me, it would be this one. Little things that arent covered by the warranty. It started about 20K miles, with the brakes, and went downhill from there, rear axle, power steering, an electric window broke (in the winter), and CD player to name a few. If you dont mind the little fixes, go ahead and buy one. If you want a vehicle to stand by their warranty and is proud of their name. Dont go with any Chrysler. I love to drive this car, but I cant stand the "issues". I have never EVER put as much money into all of my cars combine, as I have put into this one.

Overland/Overpriced/Overfed - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By JWR-11 - November 6 - 2:00 am2003 Jeep Overland -My 2nd Jeep - 4000 miles later.....plastic trim falling off,glass chipped on both side windows when delivered, engine performance at highway speeds poor , gas mileage terrible, build quality worse. Handles like a boat. For $39,000 I expected more Should have purchased a laredo 6 cyl for a little more than 1/2 price of this Overland. Wont buy another one.

Dont Waste your money - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jeff - October 1 - 5:00 pmI have had nothing but issues with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The mechanics in the automatic windows is faulty, this model has a well documented faulty brake problem, with a class action lawsuit to boot. The transmission is no dream either, constantly slips and has trouble shifting gears. This oversized golf cart is quite possibly the worst investment that you can ever make, save your money and get an Accord. Ive also had issues with alignment on the vehicle, so in short I really dont have anything positive to save about the Jeep Grand Cherokee other than the fact that the wheels have not flown off the vehicle while driving but I must say that is about it. Hope this helps.

6yrs of problems - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By amanda82 - July 19 - 5:08 pmBought my Jeep GC laredo 6 yrs ago and about 2 montha after purches the lifters were replaced and it went down hill from there. Hood wont stay up passenger window wont work. Cooling fan has been replaced 2 times. The relay for it atleast 6 times, the radiator once, had the last fan all rewired and after all that its out again and I dont know what to do. The headights and parking lights have started coming on and/or flashing with no keys in it. The heat only blows out of the defrost. Tie rod ends replaced. A/C dont work The list goes on. Would NEVER but another one.

"Cheap" Grand Cherokee - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The brake rotors warped within 8 months of driving it out of the lot, the air conditioning is hot in the summer, but the heating is marginally good in winter. The fan relay went at 38k miles. The fog light on-indicator burned out at 39k miles and one of the power outlets doesnt work. At 33k miles the seatbelt failed to retract. The car floats all over the road. The tilting steering wheel jumps out of its last position when you go over a bump. Do not, whatever you do, by a used Jeep Grand Cherokee. I wouldnt say its trail rated---I would say its "fail" rated.
