Make Overview:

Infiniti is an upscale automaker from Japan. Though most of its products are related to those sold by parent company Nissan, Infiniti looks to achieve a premium status by infusing its cars and SUVs with spirited performance and additional luxury content.

The brand was launched for the 1990 model year. Its purpose back then, as it is now, was to create premium vehicles for America that wouldn't have otherwise fit in with Nissan's more mainstream image. This was the same tactic Honda used for the creation of Acura, and Toyota for Lexus. In its first full year, Infiniti started out with two vehicles, the Q45 sedan and the M30 coupe and convertible. The compact, entry-level G20 was introduced soon after.

As the 1990s moved along, Infiniti slowly added more vehicles to its lineup. The Q45 luxury sport sedan found its market. The car's 278-horsepower V8 was class-leading in its day. On top of that, the Q45 offered cutting-edge technology such as an active suspension system. By the late '90s Infiniti had rolled out the QX4, an SUV based on the Pathfinder. The sport-ute's truck platform gave it a leg up in off-road performance relative to competing car-based SUVs.

Although Infiniti's sales grew steadily, the marque still fell short of both Lexus and Acura in terms of popularity. The early 2000s saw Infiniti making a determined effort to sharpen its focus and upgrade its products. But it was the introduction of the entry-level, midsize G35 in 2003 that finally gave Infiniti the boost and identity direction it sorely needed. Based on the same platform underpinning the Nissan 350Z, the G35 coupe and sedan met with immediate sales success. The FX35/FX45 soon followed -- a crossover SUV that provided spirited acceleration and sports-car handling with the utility of a wagon.

Today, Infiniti's lineup has expanded to include the G (now a sedan, coupe and convertible) and FX as well as the midsize M sedan, the EX small crossover SUV, the JX midsize crossover SUV and the QX large SUV. Infiniti has also introduced the M Hybrid sedan, its first hybrid vehicle. No matter the model, shoppers will find Infiniti's latest vehicles to be focused on luxury, sport, quality and value.

  • A great alternative in the rough economy - 2009 Infiniti G37

I wanted something fast, two doors, manual transmission and AWD, and arrived at the Infiniti after eliminating all the competition. Felt like I got 80% of what I wanted, and getting that other 20% would have cost more than double. Even though the Infiniti was the least expensive thing on my list, Im happy with it and have no regrets.

  • Great Car - 2003 Infiniti G35

Had this car going on 5 years and 100k miles. I have replaced the brakes and tires more often than a normal car but based on performance and how I drive, it is understood. The engine and transmission are bulletproof. A blast to drive. Better performance dollar for dollar than a BMW (owned an X5 and 330i) but you do sacrifice refinement and fit and finish.

  • Japan made a good sport sedan - 2007 Infiniti M45

After researching several cars in this class including the BMW550 and the Lexus IS350 and others, I selected the M45Sport for its handling and value. Two problems for a 65 year old like me are: 1) Stiff ride for long trips. 2) Road noise. Gas mileage is another problem. Toyota has the technology backwards: If you want the sensing of front traffic while on cruise control or lane change notice, then push a button not the other way around. Excellent car overall.

  • Grin Machine - 2004 Infiniti G35

I traded in a 2005 Nissan Altima for a 2004 Infiniti G35x, and paid the same price for a much better vehicle. It has all the toys such as the snow package, DVD, Bose, etc. (fully loaded) and feel I have a MUCH better vehicle than the Altima. I still grin when I jump in and the AWD is perfect for Wisconsin winters. I feel safer with the safety features and a 4 door sedan is perfect for a family of 3 (daughter in back seat). All in all, the best vehicle I had ever owned, and I have owned toyotas, GMs, Jeeps, and a 1998 BMW 3 series. Cant wait to get my hands on a 2007 or 2008 G sedan in a few years. Way to go Infiniti/Nissan!

  • Worst Car I Ever Owened - 2001 Infiniti I30
    By -

My wifes Honda Accord was stolen and we wanted a a nice temporary replacement car for her while we recuperated from the loss. Buying a used Infiniti I30 was a huge mistake. within one week of taking it home the instrument panel went out $200 towing $375 to repair. After that it has left us stranded 3 times at $200 per tow. Replaced alternator, starter, belts and oxygen sensors. Lately its its been stalling and dealer says we need a new transmission, probably another $2000 in repairs. We bought the car for $4200 with the intention of keeping it for one year and so far weve spent $1900 in repairs. We should have just bought something new.

  • Great Car - 2001 Infiniti Q45

Buying the Q since 1992 - each version is better than the last - minor suspension problem in this car - bottomed out going over dips in road, even in sport setting. Had to replace 2 splash guards. Springs had to be tightened.

  • What Fun! - 2003 Infiniti G35
    By -

First off, get used to stares! Secondly, the car is awesome. It handles well, accelerates well and looks the part too. Those 7-spoke wheels with Brembos just look awesome when the car is moving. What a fun car to drive! I already have 3500 miles on it...I hate to have to get out of it and I love to go anywhere, run errands or cruise around town...what fun!
