Make Overview:

Infiniti is an upscale automaker from Japan. Though most of its products are related to those sold by parent company Nissan, Infiniti looks to achieve a premium status by infusing its cars and SUVs with spirited performance and additional luxury content.

The brand was launched for the 1990 model year. Its purpose back then, as it is now, was to create premium vehicles for America that wouldn't have otherwise fit in with Nissan's more mainstream image. This was the same tactic Honda used for the creation of Acura, and Toyota for Lexus. In its first full year, Infiniti started out with two vehicles, the Q45 sedan and the M30 coupe and convertible. The compact, entry-level G20 was introduced soon after.

As the 1990s moved along, Infiniti slowly added more vehicles to its lineup. The Q45 luxury sport sedan found its market. The car's 278-horsepower V8 was class-leading in its day. On top of that, the Q45 offered cutting-edge technology such as an active suspension system. By the late '90s Infiniti had rolled out the QX4, an SUV based on the Pathfinder. The sport-ute's truck platform gave it a leg up in off-road performance relative to competing car-based SUVs.

Although Infiniti's sales grew steadily, the marque still fell short of both Lexus and Acura in terms of popularity. The early 2000s saw Infiniti making a determined effort to sharpen its focus and upgrade its products. But it was the introduction of the entry-level, midsize G35 in 2003 that finally gave Infiniti the boost and identity direction it sorely needed. Based on the same platform underpinning the Nissan 350Z, the G35 coupe and sedan met with immediate sales success. The FX35/FX45 soon followed -- a crossover SUV that provided spirited acceleration and sports-car handling with the utility of a wagon.

Today, Infiniti's lineup has expanded to include the G (now a sedan, coupe and convertible) and FX as well as the midsize M sedan, the EX small crossover SUV, the JX midsize crossover SUV and the QX large SUV. Infiniti has also introduced the M Hybrid sedan, its first hybrid vehicle. No matter the model, shoppers will find Infiniti's latest vehicles to be focused on luxury, sport, quality and value.

Overall, an excellent and reliable car. The power is outstanding but it could be quieter. Road noise is too apparent, and theres a lot of wind noise from the back door seals. The ride is a bit harsh, though better at higher speeds. The heater is could be more effective. Service is outstanding.

This is one of those "undiscovered" cars. Nice blend of comfort and performance. The Luxury model has a MUCH nicer ride than the touring model. The I35 has more HP and is has far better performance.

  • LOVE IT - 2006 Infiniti G35

Ive had this car for about a year now and I still love it. This car is not for everyone. If you typically drive SUVs or Accords you will hate this car. If you are an enthusiast you will never want to get out of it. Some people may have only bought it because of its sexy look and are not people who want a drivers car. It has loud tires, stiff ride and is small. In return you get a car with tight, predictable handling and a sweet exhaust note that will always put a smile on your face.

  • My love affair is over - 2005 Infiniti G35

I love my car. But I wont be buying another one. I had to have my front brakes replaced at 12,000 miles. It was only around town driving and I do not use both feet to drive. Everyone (in the car business) that I talked to said it was crazy that the brakes went so quickly. Infiniti explained that they are softer than other brakes. And, oh well. My dealership couldnt do anything for me and I got the big brush-off from Consumer Relations East from parent Nissan. "They would put a note in my file that I wasnt pleased with my brake situation". As far as Im concerned Infiniti just lost a customer. Ill be looking elsewhere when I buy my next car.

  • Cant find anything I dont like - 2006 Infiniti QX56
    By -

After looking at the Lexus, Cadilac and GMC SUV trucks I ended the search at Infinity. It has been the best decision I have ever made, and I put 150,000 miles on my Chev suburban. The drive of the QX is quite, smooth and luxurious. I have not had any problems with the mechanics or finishes of the inside or out. The GPS is very user friendly, the sound system wonderful. Working with Infinity has been very easy and their system of loaner cars makes normal maintenance a breeze. The seats are so easy to manuver and the configuations give you alot of flexability. Gas mileage is the only drawback.

  • Much to be Improved Upon - 2003 Infiniti I35

Was a fantastic vehicle until it passed 60k miles. Even with continuous maintenance, it sucks gas, has serious suspension problems, eats through tires, burns oil, the transmission is going, and the muffler has rusted completely off. It now has 68,000 miles on the odometer and has eaten $5000+ in repair costs. It has also left me stranded 1000 miles from home when the TPS (throttle position sensor - once recalled) died. That out of town repair was $1000 alone.

  • Brakes, comfort & road noise - 2004 Infiniti G35
    By -

Im not a car buff but I find the brakes on this car to be a bit touchy. They seem to grab too quickly giving a jerky braking motion. This car is meant for 4 passengers, not 5. It also becomes uncomfortable to drive for long periods of time. And road noise!! It is the worst I have ever experienced. I thought my previous car, the Chevy Impala was loud, but this car is even worse. Going 70 on a highway one cant even hear what the other is saying without having to talk loud and when it rains the noise is deafening. My car does come with a sun roof.. perhaps that is why it is loud when it rains, but I also had a sunroof in my Impala and It was not loud like this one.

  • Great car! But rust issue on front motor/radiator mount - 2000 Infiniti I30
    By -

Purchased in 2000 when Infiniti launched new redesign of I30t model. Car was originally my Dads, now I own it w/ 255K mi. Had its share of wear and tear being 12 years old and driven on avg over 100 mi/day commuting. There is a flaw with this car and that is the rust that builds on the radiator mount under the car. This mount also connects with the front motor mount. Car has been garage kept. I know of others that have seen this also.I can feel its affect on the cars performance and handling. Its only b/c of this I am now looking for another car. Cost to repair isnt worth the value of the car. If choosing to buy, note to look for this. However the car is great. I will truly miss it.
