Make Overview:

Infiniti is an upscale automaker from Japan. Though most of its products are related to those sold by parent company Nissan, Infiniti looks to achieve a premium status by infusing its cars and SUVs with spirited performance and additional luxury content.

The brand was launched for the 1990 model year. Its purpose back then, as it is now, was to create premium vehicles for America that wouldn't have otherwise fit in with Nissan's more mainstream image. This was the same tactic Honda used for the creation of Acura, and Toyota for Lexus. In its first full year, Infiniti started out with two vehicles, the Q45 sedan and the M30 coupe and convertible. The compact, entry-level G20 was introduced soon after.

As the 1990s moved along, Infiniti slowly added more vehicles to its lineup. The Q45 luxury sport sedan found its market. The car's 278-horsepower V8 was class-leading in its day. On top of that, the Q45 offered cutting-edge technology such as an active suspension system. By the late '90s Infiniti had rolled out the QX4, an SUV based on the Pathfinder. The sport-ute's truck platform gave it a leg up in off-road performance relative to competing car-based SUVs.

Although Infiniti's sales grew steadily, the marque still fell short of both Lexus and Acura in terms of popularity. The early 2000s saw Infiniti making a determined effort to sharpen its focus and upgrade its products. But it was the introduction of the entry-level, midsize G35 in 2003 that finally gave Infiniti the boost and identity direction it sorely needed. Based on the same platform underpinning the Nissan 350Z, the G35 coupe and sedan met with immediate sales success. The FX35/FX45 soon followed -- a crossover SUV that provided spirited acceleration and sports-car handling with the utility of a wagon.

Today, Infiniti's lineup has expanded to include the G (now a sedan, coupe and convertible) and FX as well as the midsize M sedan, the EX small crossover SUV, the JX midsize crossover SUV and the QX large SUV. Infiniti has also introduced the M Hybrid sedan, its first hybrid vehicle. No matter the model, shoppers will find Infiniti's latest vehicles to be focused on luxury, sport, quality and value.

The car at times will not allow you to take cornors as hard as you want unless you take off the VDC and when it does kick in you really know it. Feel the car out first before you really run it hard or you can lose it.I was more then impressed with the power it felt it delivered like cars that have 350horses.and this car always get reviews about the interior quility but leather willow is much nicer then my friends BMW 520is leather interior

wonderful car for the name, price, and performance. this car is overlooked and ignored due to poor marketing and small budget. for smart shoppers who actually do their homework and compare options and prices, this car is a winner.--isnt it always true that great bargins are never publicized?

Just traded in a 99 M3, and I have no regards at all.

  • Big huge mistake...dont you make it too - 2011 Infiniti G Sedan
    By -

After I went I took the car in for a slipping transmission. Was told the car needed to be broken in and to come back in a few months. I went back in 3,500 miles. The car will sometimes search for the gear it needs. Not safe when youre on the highway and attempting to pass another vehicle. This car has the potential to leave you hanging for several seconds while it searches and eventually engages. The dealer acknowledged that this transmission is suited for a 5 or 6 speed, not a 7 but that the car does perform according to how it was built. I asked if it would take people getting hurt to get Infinity to address the problem and was told, "yes"

  • Meh...not really that impressed - 2017 Infiniti QX70
    By -

I rented this car and spent 900 miles in it (I got in with 8 miles, returned with 908). Overall, I was expecting better. Cabin was nice and well appointed. Buttons were easily placed and generally everything was intuitive and easy to use. Given that it was January and I was in northern Minnesota, I was impressed by the stability control intervention, which was quick and predictable when cornering and the rear started to break away. Kept me on the road pointed the right direction, and there was no tire spinning or anything. As with a lot of Infiniti SUVs, the cabin is a bit claustrophobic and outward visibility is below average. I really had to crane my neck to look over my shoulder and around blind spots. If road conditions were at all undulating, the ride was very jumpy and uncomfortable. You could really see it when the headlights were on; they were bobbing up and down and all of that was transmitted into the cabin. The USB integration was sporadic. Sometimes it would start up right away, others it would get stuck on "reading file" and require a lot more monkeying around with it before music would play. But what was most noteworthy, in a negative sense, was the gas mileage. I drove the 900 miles in less than a week, so my driving was mostly highway. Yet it returned below 20 mpg as an average. For a 20+ gallon tank, range was *barely* 400 miles. Im not a rocket accelerator, nor do I drive like a speed demon (on the interstate, I have the cruise pegged right around the speed limit). Add to that the engine requires premium gasoline. In this day and age, for a smaller SUV, that kind of mileage is flat-out poor. On the same route with my Cayenne and driving the same style, I get 24-25 mpg. As a result, I would say that while there are some things to like about the QX70, there are much better options out there.

  • GREAT RIDE - 2003 Infiniti G35
    By -

Ive had two BMWs and two Lexus ES300s and this is by far the best overall ride. The power and accelleration is quick and very responsive...much better than my 2000 Lexus Although the interior is not quite as plush it still is much more sporty and really fits the car. I considered the TLS but it didnt handle the way this car does.

  • Rot Lot Causes Too Many Tow Ins! - 2003 Infiniti M45
    By -

I got a really great deal on a left over 2003 M45 demo with 1200 miles. The dealer advertised $10,000 off MSRP and thats what I paid. $35K for a rwd V-8 is a great deal. But with the deal has come some real reliability issues including new tires (Michelin Pilots) due to lot rot, new battery and a new fuel pump (all replaced under warranty). Ive had this car towed in twice in 6 weeks! I worked for GM for 4 years and am begining to wonder if I bought a Buick! Dealer has made necessary repairs but has done little to build my loyalty. Again, is this a GM dealer? Lesson learned: dont buy a failed model that has sat on the lot for over a year after build date (October 2002).

  • "5 STAR BARGAIN" - 2015 Infiniti QX50
    By -

Retired after 35 years in the Automobile Business. Researched the QX50 thoroughly before purchase. Cant drive it enough! Its that good! All day comfortable! Wonderful Power and Luxury! Negotiated a great deal! Naturally aspirated 6 cylinder engine with 325 horsepower.(No turbo or supercharger to worry about). Japanese reliability. My wife and I just returned from Pennsylvania, put on 1000 miles(24 MPG.) Great through the mountains. We put the rear seats forward for more storage and greater visibility. Dont hesitate to buy the QX50 or to compare it to anything else in its class. 2014 Infinity QX50 AWD Journey. (Moonlight White). OH YEAH!!

  • Hate to go to Iraq - 2005 Infiniti G35
    By -

Planned to buy a mustang, till I saw this vehicle. Fun to test drive with the choice of driving in Manual or Automatic (rev is only auto). 0-60 is fast and it redlines at 6400rpm. Have had the vehicle to 130mph and they say it is faster. I had only driven it about 1100 miles before I went to Iraq, but my only complaint is that it does not like to go slow. It seems to have too high of rpms in "city" driving. Very fast pick-up and excellent mpg for this type of car. I averaged 21 mpg (and that was with a lot of playing around). The Bose system is a must. Corners very well, and the seats seem to hold you in place. Safety wise there are airbags everywhere. Overall a GREAT car for the money!!
