Make Overview:

Infiniti is an upscale automaker from Japan. Though most of its products are related to those sold by parent company Nissan, Infiniti looks to achieve a premium status by infusing its cars and SUVs with spirited performance and additional luxury content.

The brand was launched for the 1990 model year. Its purpose back then, as it is now, was to create premium vehicles for America that wouldn't have otherwise fit in with Nissan's more mainstream image. This was the same tactic Honda used for the creation of Acura, and Toyota for Lexus. In its first full year, Infiniti started out with two vehicles, the Q45 sedan and the M30 coupe and convertible. The compact, entry-level G20 was introduced soon after.

As the 1990s moved along, Infiniti slowly added more vehicles to its lineup. The Q45 luxury sport sedan found its market. The car's 278-horsepower V8 was class-leading in its day. On top of that, the Q45 offered cutting-edge technology such as an active suspension system. By the late '90s Infiniti had rolled out the QX4, an SUV based on the Pathfinder. The sport-ute's truck platform gave it a leg up in off-road performance relative to competing car-based SUVs.

Although Infiniti's sales grew steadily, the marque still fell short of both Lexus and Acura in terms of popularity. The early 2000s saw Infiniti making a determined effort to sharpen its focus and upgrade its products. But it was the introduction of the entry-level, midsize G35 in 2003 that finally gave Infiniti the boost and identity direction it sorely needed. Based on the same platform underpinning the Nissan 350Z, the G35 coupe and sedan met with immediate sales success. The FX35/FX45 soon followed -- a crossover SUV that provided spirited acceleration and sports-car handling with the utility of a wagon.

Today, Infiniti's lineup has expanded to include the G (now a sedan, coupe and convertible) and FX as well as the midsize M sedan, the EX small crossover SUV, the JX midsize crossover SUV and the QX large SUV. Infiniti has also introduced the M Hybrid sedan, its first hybrid vehicle. No matter the model, shoppers will find Infiniti's latest vehicles to be focused on luxury, sport, quality and value.

  • Great value, but... - 2007 Infiniti G35

This car is a blast. It handles superbly, revs quickly all the way up to 7500, and offers superior comfort. For the money it cant be beat. However, its a little rough around the edges. The throttle hangs when you release it and then the RPMs drop suddenly, limiting responsiveness. Engine vibrates noticeably at higher RPM. Sunroof seems to create some wind noise at >70 MPH.

  • Great choice for 30-40k! - 2002 Infiniti I35

I looked at a C320 but it cost too much for what you get. The next one was a 3.2 TL which was a decent car and quicker, but looked like a polished Honda. So I went for the I35 w/ more conservative styling, larger size and mid-range price. (1% over invoice) I got every option. I wasnt sure about the chrome wheels (too flashy?) but I get alot of compliments. In short, great car, good deal, great service from dealer (had some options put on the car.) 9 out of 10.

  • Needs telescopic steering - 1998 Infiniti I30
    By -

Great car. Handles well for a sedan. Lots of room, well built, looks good in and out. Major problem if youre tall- no telescopic steering wheel. Youll have to choose between the comfort of your legs or arms- because the only way to get the steering wheel closer to you is to scoot the seat forward. I guess the Nissan guys figured tall people have really long arms. Also it would be nice if the standard tranny were more readily available.

exellent car with a lot of room for a small family and also a smooth ride all the way.

  • Traded my 540i for more car and service - 2003 Infiniti Q45
    By -

My purchase of my 2002 Infinity Q45 Sport/Premium (Silver with Black interior)was highlighted by the fact that I also got rid of my 1998 BMW 540i. I traded a 1994 Q45a in on the BMW, and I was completely ready to get another Q. Excellent build quality. Superb use of materials. Not "in your face", but still possessed of cache. Great gadgets (reverse camera is very cool, and it works). Dealer service experience second to none. Really. I highly recommend this car for anyone looking for performance, quality, dealer experience, and cache. Fantastic! Oh, did I mention the price? Ridiculous. They could easily charge 10k more for this car.

  • Why buy a Z - 2003 Infiniti G35
    By -

I have looked at many cars from a 330 to a 2002 sc430 and a corvette I was in the market for a $35,000 car that is fun to drive. I have found it the G35 is a blast and I am enjoying it everyday I am trying not to put miles on it but that is hard to do.

  • Better than a 3 series - 2006 Infiniti G35
    By -

Vehicles handling and acceleration, is comparable to the 330i. Comfort and roominess is superior to same. Lexus has nothing that compares in this price range.
