Overview & Reviews
Nissan launched its upscale Infiniti division in 1989 with two unique models and a polarizing ad campaign. More than two decades later, Infiniti continues to blaze its own trail in pursuit of luxury, performance and style. The Infiniti G37 sport coupe, sedan and convertible are prime examples of this corporate philosophy. Blessed with a split personality, the rear-wheel-drive G37 will deliver you to work in luxury during the week and then clip apexes all weekend without breaking a sweat.
The list of luxury sport coupes and sedans is typically dominated by elite Teutonic nameplates. In readying the G37, Infiniti honed it on test circuits throughout Europe, including Germany's famed Nürburgring. This athletic chassis, along with the G's attractive sticker price, distinctive interior appointments and ample array of technology, makes it well prepared for battle in this class.
Used Infiniti G37 Models
The Infiniti G37 was first introduced as a coupe for 2008, with the convertible arriving the following year. Technically, the G37 sedan arrived for 2009 as well, but it was really the same vehicle as the second-generation G35 sedan that arrived for '07, albeit with a larger 3.7-liter V6. Confused yet? It gets worse. For 2011, Infiniti officially broke these cars apart into separate models, so for information on a new G, please read the Infiniti G Sedan review, Infiniti G Coupe review and Infiniti G Convertible review.
Used Infiniti G37 models are available in coupe, sedan or convertible body styles, with four possible trim levels: base, Journey, G37x and Sport 6MT. The convertible was only offered in base or Sport 6MT trim, though. For 2010, a special range-topping Anniversary model added features that included navigation, an upgraded Bose audio system, iPod connectivity and ventilated seats (for the convertible only).
In addition to the long list of standard features packaged with each trim level, several options, including the Anniversary add-ons were available à la carte. Adaptive cruise control will alleviate some fatigue on long trips, while the available Sport package (standard on the G37 Sport 6MT and optional on the G37 Journey) will rouse the interest of more aggressive drivers thanks to features like a limited-slip differential, a sport-tuned suspension and brakes, sport seats and bigger wheels.
A four-wheel active steer system (4WAS) was available for those obsessed with pushing the technological envelope, but reactions were mixed, with several drivers noting diminished steering feedback in vehicles equipped with 4WAS. It was eliminated after 2009. Stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags can be found on all used Infiniti G37s, and a pre-collision preparation feature was optional.
During these years, the G37's 3.7-liter V6 produced a very healthy 330 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, fed to either the rear wheels or all four (G37x). In base, Journey and G37x trims, the G37 came with a seven-speed automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters, while the Sport 6MT featured a six-speed manual. Both transmissions have their devotees, but the clutch take-up in the manual is a little too abrupt. Acceleration and mileage numbers are comparable between the automatic and manual, so the choice is a matter of personal preference.
A used G37 from these years offered user-friendly controls, excellent build quality and a handsome design -- the latter highlighted by such items as the car's leather-accented magnesium transmission paddle shifters and attractive interior trim. The front seats are comfortable and well-bolstered, and the available sport-styled seats offer even more aggressive bolstering, though they may be a bit too snug for larger drivers. Both the sedan and coupe feel like sports cars wrapped in a luxury car package, but the coupe, with seats that are mounted slightly lower than the sedan's, feels a bit racier. We're less enamored with the convertible, as it's less refined and practical than its competitors from those years.
Overall, the Infiniti G37 stands shoulder to shoulder with all its contemporary rivals in the entry-level luxury segment. Used car consumers in the market for such a vehicle would be wise to put it at the top of their to-drive list.

Cool Car - 2008 Infiniti G37
By Mark - September 13 - 10:53 amCar runs well, but needs more oomph. I had a Mustang GT before and it seemed much more powerful. The car is somewhat unresponsive at low RPM. That means no sudden changes in speed without anticipation.

Fun to drive, but needs improvements - 2009 Infiniti G37
By GK - August 26 - 7:16 pmGreat sports sedan, powerful & responsive. AWD performed amicably during the latest snowstorm. All electronic features are very intuitive, and well designed. However, there are some drawbacks: 1) poor mileage when driven mostly in the city. I get 14 mpg on average. 2) small trunk with narrow opening 3) rear seats dont fold down. In overall, Im happy with the car, but really miss my FX35.

BMW to G37 Coupe, What a Great Decision! - 2008 Infiniti G37
By Mark - August 24 - 6:00 pmI just recently purchased the G37 coupe and I am enjoying every minute I am in the car. Prior to the G37 coupe I was driving the BMW 525i and prior to that the BMW 325i and I can tell you that the G37 coupe is more fun to drive and has more options than the comparable BMW for considerably less money. The power and sound of the 330 horsepower engine is awsome. The interior is luxurious and sporty and all of the controls are easy to use and well placed. Any person looking for a new coupe needs to consider the G37 because I believe you will be pleasently surprised that you will get so much car in this market segment for the price.

Fun Car - 2009 Infiniti G37
By Danny Boy - July 27 - 11:23 amI was looking for a fun car in addition to my FX35. I test drove Audi TT, BMW 335ix and the 370Z. The G37x gives me best value and comfort and I can always count on the Infiniti quality. I based my final decision on a combination of these factors - performance, comfort/toys, fun to drive, value and reliability.

Good car the for the money - 2008 Infiniti G37
By vdy - July 27 - 8:30 amBought a G37 S Journey with sports package nav, premium, 19 in wheels - loaded. Got the auto, disappointed infiniti does not have a 6 spd auto or DSG type transmission. I would say this is the only issue with the car. The car is responsive, steering is a little light at high speeds. Controls are easy to use- voice commands in the car are easy. The interior is good (not as good as an audi). I would recommend black interior which has white stitching. The tan or gray interiors look cheaper. Gas is atrocious but there is cost for the pleasure you get when driving this car. I am happy overall. Consider a 335I coupe and M3. Got the car below invoice.

Im a car guy again! - 2008 Infiniti G37
By Matt - July 21 - 2:00 amBought this car 2 days ago and traded in my Lexus ES 350. The Lexus is truly a fantastic car for comfort and fuel economy, but it requires you to lose your man card. My past cars have been Mustang V8s, Saab 9.5, BMW 525 and Acura TL. Ive only driven the G37 about 4 times so far, but I love it and cant wait to drive it again. Its quiet and comfy when you want it to be, but can certainly growl and perform with the push of a pedal. Some say the brakes are touchy, I say precise. Some dont like the "off the line" acceleration, buy a true sports car. Some dont like the trunk space, ITS A COUPE! Head space? Im 6 190, no problem. Im a car guy again!

Excellent value - 2009 Infiniti G37
By DL - July 14 - 10:20 amI initially wanted a CTS. The G37x for me was the best value, has excellent expected reliability (3rd year in production also tends to work out some early-production bugs), and leaves the other cars in the dust when it comes to acceleration. My numerical ratings may have been overly harsh, but when you look at its competitors (not considering price), the G37x is a bit rough around the edges.

Gas Guzzler - 2008 Infiniti G37
By AQR - July 9 - 11:33 pmPrevious to my 2008 g37 I had a 2006 scion tc with a lots of mods. I needed something more luxurious so I test drove pretty much every thing including the bmw 335i, lexus is 350 and the winner the g37. I loved the performance and interior of the vehicle the only thing that I regret is that now I have like 500 miles and this car and the mpg stinks. To fill it up from 1/2 tank was 46.00, ouch. But I would never change it!

G37 and the iPod - 2009 Infiniti G37
By another_G37_owner - July 7 - 12:03 amThe iPod does indeed recharge while driving the car. Or else Ive been able to drive over 8,000 miles on a single charge since last February. And, yes, this is one fabulous car. My mpg has been over 23 for summer driving, part highway and part local.

All I thought it was - 2008 Infiniti G37
By Kappa88af - July 2 - 8:20 amI test drove the Porsche 911, BMW 335 & M Roadster, S2000, Corvette and decided on the G. I have the Blue Slate w/every option except 4wheel steering. Ive had the car for four weeks and I dont regret a thing. The power is on point, the electronic gismos are easy to operation, handling is responsive. I havent opened her up because of the required break in period of 1200 miles. Im at 800 now. Pound for pound, you cant go wrong. This is my first Infiniti product and Im loving every minute. A word of caution. On model produced after July 07, you lose some of the voice features such as telling the car what temp to change to and what radio station. Other that than you will be pleased
