Model Overview:

Although it wasn't around for very long, the Hyundai Veracruz could be a worthwhile choice for a crossover SUV. As with other Hyundai models, the Veracruz boasted plenty of features for a price that was typically less than the competition. On top of this, the Veracruz also provided an impressively luxurious cabin and a quiet ride that was comparable to many luxury-branded crossover SUVs.

On the downside, it came up short in terms of interior space compared to some other large crossovers, and didn't offer much in terms of design flair. Hyundai also didn't sell very many of them, so finding a used model that fits your desires might be hard. But overall, the Veracruz is worth a look for shoppers interested in a feature-packed midsize or large crossover.

Most Recent Hyundai Veracruz
The seven-seat Hyundai Veracruz was produced from 2007 through 2012. Under the hood was a 260-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 paired to a six-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive was standard, with all-wheel drive optional.

Originally, Hyundai offered the Veracruz in GLS, SE and Limited trim levels. Standard feature highlights for the base GLS trim initially included 17-inch wheels, heated side mirrors, air-conditioning, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and a six-speaker audio system with satellite radio. The SE was pretty similar. Major options for these trims included a sunroof, Bluetooth, heated front seats and a power driver seat. On the SE you could also get a power liftgate, leather upholstery and a premium audio system.

The Veracruz Limited came with most of the lower trims' options as standard. It also had dual-zone climate control and a power front passenger seat. Options included a navigation system and a surround-sound audio system.

Feature content largely remained the same throughout its run, although a navigation system and power liftgate became available for 2008. The following year the SE trim was dropped in favor of two optional packages available on the GLS. A rear-seat DVD entertainment system was offered for 2009 and '10 only.

When the Veracruz was introduced, it drew comparisons to luxury models rather than more pedestrian-badged competitors. The comparisons were not far-fetched. In our reviews, we found the Veracruz luxurious, well-built and very quiet on the road. Top crash test scores were another draw. On the downside, total interior cargo space and third-row rear seat room weren't quite as spacious as some competitors like the GMC Acadia. The Veracruz also looked pretty plain, which could be a turnoff for some buyers.

  • I Cant Believe I Bought a Hyundai - 2007 Hyundai Veracruz

I had originally planned to buy a Honda Pilot, but the Hyundai dealership is located next to the Honda Dealership and thought Id take a look at the Veracruz. After the testdrive, I was sold. I got a good price (2% over invoice). My friends all love the car. Seven of us (all adult males) went to a ballgame and everyone felt comfortable (I was a little worried about the guy in the middle seat of the 2nd row). So far, Im getting 23.1 mpg (with an average speed of 27 mph), much better than I expected. I teach at a college and have had several students approach me and tell me how hot the car looks. I couldnt be happier with my purchase.

  • Best SUV EXCELLENT INITIAL QUALITY AND LONG TERM F - 2007 Hyundai Veracruz

I put on many miles, owned it since 2007. It owes me nothing...and has always performed reliably. Very good power and transmission. In 2007 it was ahead of its time with a 6speed automatic. The engine senses the octane level of your fuel and adjusts to obtain maximum performance. The manufacturer has always proactively kept the safety of my family, the maintenance of its vehicle, foremost in its mind.

  • Problems with being reliable - 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

The first week I had It I had to have the battery replaced. The other day I started it up, put it reverse and it gave a hard jolt. 5 minutes later I pressed the gas pedal down and It would only go 5 miles an hour. I stopped, call road service and when he arrived it miraculously was back to normal. The next day, it wouldnt start at all. I do have a 100,000 mile warranty but this is my very first Hyundai. I have always owned Toyotas. I am very discouraged and only hope whatever the problem is, they find it, fix it and I have no more problems. I have never had any problems with any of my new cars before. 4 xs in 2 years is 4 times too much. I have to have a reliable car.

  • One of the best for the money - 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Had the vehicle for a year and half. The ride is quite and smooth even at 80 MPH. We have had one small problem, the rear door seals needed to be replaced due to shrinkage. No MP3 or Ipod adapter. We would buy another Hyundai in the future.

Great buy for the car. Looks and handles great. I bought the first one that the dealer had sold. I do not see why Hyundai does not advertise this car more aggressively.

  • I like it so far. - 2007 Hyundai Veracruz

So far this is a great suv. I have 3 kids(1,3, and 8) so the third row was absolutely necessary and does the job quite well. I am replacing a dodge durango with this one so I am used to plenty of space and the veeracruz delivers. Access to the third row is very easy and folding it up and down is a lot easier than the durango. The fact that the veracruz is built on the same frame as their minivan makes the ride VERY smooth. The handling is also very good compared to some of the suvs in its class. Before going ahead with this choice we also test drove the Outlook, Acadia and Pilot and by far the veracruz is the best bang for the buck. I am recommending it to everyone looking for an suv.

  • New car wont start - 2008 Hyundai Veracruz
    By -

We bought this car on October 29 and had to have it towed on October 30 because it would not start. It supposedly was repaired on october 30, but on October 31 it would not start again. On November 1, it would not start until we worked with it for fifteen minutes. On November 2, it is being towed again because it will not start at all. Be very concerned about the electrical system in these cars.

  • Suspension noice - 2008 Hyundai Veracruz
    By -

I like this car. I have about 12,000 on it. Have been back to dealer twice for service and one complaint that has not been fixed. It is the excessive suspension noise on uneven pavement. It sounds like car is falling apart. Dealer said I had 50 lb. Of air in tires. Second time back I was told nothing is wrong, but that I had to get used to " driving a truck". Consumer magazine talked about this problem, but nobody else.
