Overview & Reviews
Although it wasn't around for very long, the Hyundai Veracruz could be a worthwhile choice for a crossover SUV. As with other Hyundai models, the Veracruz boasted plenty of features for a price that was typically less than the competition. On top of this, the Veracruz also provided an impressively luxurious cabin and a quiet ride that was comparable to many luxury-branded crossover SUVs.
On the downside, it came up short in terms of interior space compared to some other large crossovers, and didn't offer much in terms of design flair. Hyundai also didn't sell very many of them, so finding a used model that fits your desires might be hard. But overall, the Veracruz is worth a look for shoppers interested in a feature-packed midsize or large crossover.
Most Recent Hyundai Veracruz
The seven-seat Hyundai Veracruz was produced from 2007 through 2012. Under the hood was a 260-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 paired to a six-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive was standard, with all-wheel drive optional.
Originally, Hyundai offered the Veracruz in GLS, SE and Limited trim levels. Standard feature highlights for the base GLS trim initially included 17-inch wheels, heated side mirrors, air-conditioning, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and a six-speaker audio system with satellite radio. The SE was pretty similar. Major options for these trims included a sunroof, Bluetooth, heated front seats and a power driver seat. On the SE you could also get a power liftgate, leather upholstery and a premium audio system.
The Veracruz Limited came with most of the lower trims' options as standard. It also had dual-zone climate control and a power front passenger seat. Options included a navigation system and a surround-sound audio system.
Feature content largely remained the same throughout its run, although a navigation system and power liftgate became available for 2008. The following year the SE trim was dropped in favor of two optional packages available on the GLS. A rear-seat DVD entertainment system was offered for 2009 and '10 only.
When the Veracruz was introduced, it drew comparisons to luxury models rather than more pedestrian-badged competitors. The comparisons were not far-fetched. In our reviews, we found the Veracruz luxurious, well-built and very quiet on the road. Top crash test scores were another draw. On the downside, total interior cargo space and third-row rear seat room weren't quite as spacious as some competitors like the GMC Acadia. The Veracruz also looked pretty plain, which could be a turnoff for some buyers.

I cant believe it! - 2007 Hyundai Veracruz
By M. Allen - December 29 - 2:40 amI love the styling and the interior is fabulous. So far, Im averaging about 19.6 MPG in all around driving and it is not even broken in yet. I test drove everything in its class, but something kept bringing back to the Veracruz. I pull a 3500 pound boat, and it pulls it much better than my 4.0L, V-6 Explorer did. The engine and transmission are both smooth and refined. Sometimes I cant tell if the engine is even running. I owned two Hondas prior to this, but I could not purchase the Pilot over the Veracruz. The Honda dealers arrogance just pushed me right into the Hyundai dealers showroom. Time will tell, but Im very pleased with this vehicle, and highly recommend it!

would never buy another one - 2007 Hyundai Veracruz
By unhappy owner - December 23 - 10:23 pmI just recently purchased the veracruz about 4 months ago. Within the first week there was a loud thumping noise in the rear end, then once winter hit I attempted to use the awd feature. I quickly realized that did not work, the loud grinding noise gave that away. So after my wife putting 1000 miles on it, off to the shop it went. replaced entire rear end and 4 wheel drive due to oil contamination, at least that what I was told. While it was in the shop I told them to check the front end,as that was making alot of noise also. they did not, so know I am back in my loaner vehicle, after paying nearly 30k for a vehicle and now back in a loaner car, could not be more dissatisfied.

Fantastic Car-underpriced by $10k - 2007 Hyundai Veracruz
By mikew - December 7 - 11:00 amBought the GLS with the premium package (sunroof, power/heated seat) and have a very well appointed-luxury in my view, 7-seater crossover SUV for under $27k (we paid $200 over invoice) with a 10 year warranty. Incredible. This vehicle is rock solid, beautiful inside and out, and extremely quiet. We made a 300 mile trip with 4 + baby and all were quite comfortable (baby slept the whole way) and we had cavernous room for luggage/baby stuff. Flip the 3rd row and you still have room for the baby stuff. I cannot recommend this car more highly -get over the Hyundai "stigma" as it is wholly unjustified. Car of the Year right here...

It IS Better than the Lexus RX!!! - 2007 Hyundai Veracruz
By momof2 - November 25 - 6:10 pmWe have owned a 99 Lexus RX300 since it was new. When we were recently faced w/my husband losing his company car, we assumed wed get the RX350 because weve been so pleased w/our first Lexus. Well, in our opinion, our new Hyundai Veracruz has blown the Lexus RX out of the water! The smooth, quiet ride, the very many luxury features and the gorgeous body style cant compete with the Lexus, or its over-blown price tag. We have 2 months before we give up the company car - the Lexus has been collecting dust in the garage while we take our awesome Veracruz everywhere! I never thought Id be a Hyundai owner, but I couldnt be happier with it. You MUST consider Veracruz if buying a crossover!

Electrical problems - 2008 Hyundai Veracruz
By Dont do it. - November 19 - 6:33 pmI researched this vehicle before buying and found that all but one were great ratings. The one bad stated that he had electrical problems from the very beginning. Well, I am the second. After only 10 months, the alarm would trigger when ever I unlocked and opened the door. They replaced a circuit card. Then, the steering wheel would not tilt. They replaced the switch twice and then the steering column. Then it would not tilt nor telescope so they replaced a circuit card. Three weeks later, its doing it again. The DVD volume is much louder than the radio and they cant fix it. The fan under the hood is very loud sometimes. I am getting lots of rattles and wind noise now.

The family wagon - 2007 Hyundai Veracruz
By dan - October 22 - 4:50 amWe just purchased a fully loaded Veracruz Limited AWD with convenience package and more. It was the most expensive car the Hyundai dealer had ever sold. It rides well and is very comfortable. My critique is that it is skimpy on the cupholders, lacks automatic adjustable rear seats, needs more storage nooks, the engine is noisy, and it lacks bluetooth. But it is a very attractive car, without too much fake wood, and a good value if you arent looking for snob appeal. And who can beat the warranty? I am glad there is no navi system since we have a Garmin. Its a deal compared to the luxury brand crossovers.

We love it - 2007 Hyundai Veracruz
By We love it - October 1 - 1:16 pmWe bought the LTD instead of the SE because my wife wanted the power liftgate. The ride is the smoothest Ive ever had and my passengers do not fail to notice this. The steering is not sporty but luxurious. To avoid high RPM I come off the stop light at 3500 rpm and at the first shift I increase the pressure on the accelerator and it holds its own but the power is there if you dont mind reving to 4000. The automatic A/C and dimming mirrows are special and the controls on the wheel along with the power liftgate says LTD. but here the topper: We pulled up to a family picnic and my wife said that it felt so good that she didnt feel like getting out. After 32 years, I finally did something R

Veracruz in Toronto! - 2007 Hyundai Veracruz
By krill lover - September 11 - 9:20 amI got my Veracruz on the first day of august and so far, my experience with this so called "LUV" (Luxury Utility Vehicle) has been phenominal. The powertrain has plenty of power on the go, the cabin stays quiet all the time and the fit and finish is I dare say comparable to Lexus and MB. The seats are very comfy, and my children and wife get plenty of room in the rear. So far, Im only concerned about the front headrest. My son starts complaining about his sore neck after about an hour drive. So far, this vehicle has been great. Im planning to go on a 500 mile trip to chicago this weekend. Ill write another review on fuel economy and dependabily of Hyundais that my wife still doubts.
