Model Overview:

Although it wasn't around for very long, the Hyundai Veracruz could be a worthwhile choice for a crossover SUV. As with other Hyundai models, the Veracruz boasted plenty of features for a price that was typically less than the competition. On top of this, the Veracruz also provided an impressively luxurious cabin and a quiet ride that was comparable to many luxury-branded crossover SUVs.

On the downside, it came up short in terms of interior space compared to some other large crossovers, and didn't offer much in terms of design flair. Hyundai also didn't sell very many of them, so finding a used model that fits your desires might be hard. But overall, the Veracruz is worth a look for shoppers interested in a feature-packed midsize or large crossover.

Most Recent Hyundai Veracruz
The seven-seat Hyundai Veracruz was produced from 2007 through 2012. Under the hood was a 260-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 paired to a six-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive was standard, with all-wheel drive optional.

Originally, Hyundai offered the Veracruz in GLS, SE and Limited trim levels. Standard feature highlights for the base GLS trim initially included 17-inch wheels, heated side mirrors, air-conditioning, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and a six-speaker audio system with satellite radio. The SE was pretty similar. Major options for these trims included a sunroof, Bluetooth, heated front seats and a power driver seat. On the SE you could also get a power liftgate, leather upholstery and a premium audio system.

The Veracruz Limited came with most of the lower trims' options as standard. It also had dual-zone climate control and a power front passenger seat. Options included a navigation system and a surround-sound audio system.

Feature content largely remained the same throughout its run, although a navigation system and power liftgate became available for 2008. The following year the SE trim was dropped in favor of two optional packages available on the GLS. A rear-seat DVD entertainment system was offered for 2009 and '10 only.

When the Veracruz was introduced, it drew comparisons to luxury models rather than more pedestrian-badged competitors. The comparisons were not far-fetched. In our reviews, we found the Veracruz luxurious, well-built and very quiet on the road. Top crash test scores were another draw. On the downside, total interior cargo space and third-row rear seat room weren't quite as spacious as some competitors like the GMC Acadia. The Veracruz also looked pretty plain, which could be a turnoff for some buyers.

Have taken this vehicle on a 1000 mile road trip and everything about the vehicle exceeded our expectations. Quiet cabin, elegant interior, plenty of`space in second row seats and satisfactory gas mileage. Everything works as advertised. Fit and finish matches previously owned Infinity and Acuras.

  • Bought used still smiling 70,000 miles later - 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Purchased the Veracruz (1/2011) with 23,000 to replace 03 Murano with 140,000 miles. I needed a heavy safe car capable of carting a lot of people but used primarily to commute approx 800 miles/week often in harsh wintery conditions. The car now has over 100,000. Its much hardier than the Murano (not as fun). It has been relatively problem free. The superior warranty is a huge help-(although less than new). Ive had dealer problems-billed for covered repairs and most recently, when problems were due to known recall issue-stood my ground. Ive replaced the windshield wiper mechanism-bought used. It is very sturdy safe car with great flexible space-Id buy it again except they D/Cd it. Why?

We purchased the 2011 Veracruz over the weekend and so far love it! After driving several other higher end models the comfort and value here outshines even the luxury brands wed driven. For the feel of driving on a cloud while keeping my budget on the ground, this couldnt be beat!

After over 1yr I have 14K on my 08 Veracruz Limited. The vehicle has been nearly flawless! Nothing has gone wrong - not even minor problems. The interior still looks new even with kids. The interior layout is completely intuitive and the best I have had on any vehicle. A minor complaint is acceleration from a stop. But, to my surprise, using premium fuel does improve this problem a bit. The interior space is exceptional. We cart 2 kids with child seats and gear and the VC has ample room. Ride comfort for long trips is great. My wifes vehicle is an 08 Lexus RX350 and I can say the 2 are fairly comparable. We usually take the VC for trips because it has more storage space and a 3rd row.

Nice vehicle. The wife has a bad back and the lumbar support is helpful. Too bad the MPG city is not better.

Ive only had it for a few weeks now, but so far so good. Im getting around 19MPG with mixed driving. It has lots of little features that make life easier, such as the proximity key, power tailgate, cool box in console, placement of interior lights is grea,t very comfortable and powerful. The one this that does bother me just a little is that the rear dvd player renders your rearview mirror useless, it totally blocks the rear window when in use.

  • Surprisingly Great Car! - 2007 Hyundai Veracruz

I looked many crossovers. I decided to check this one out just for the heck of it and quickly purchased it. This car is wonderful. Fantastic smooth ride, very luxurious (and solid!) interior features. I got the SE with the 10 speaker Infiniti surround system, and I have never heard such a great sounding stereo system (stock or aftermarket!). I am very pleased with this automobile.

Ive had my new Veracruz for a few weeks now. So far, love it! Very intuitive controls. Super quiet. The handling is more luxury, less sport, but it has great pick up when you need it. The second row bench is very comfortable - my kids like it better than the Dodge Durango, the Nissan Maxima, and the Infiniti G35. The seat material feels like a super soft suede, very nice. 100x better than the Pilot. I cannot imagine getting a comparable vehicle for anywhere near the price (under $30k).

7K and 6 months later and no rattles, defects or problems. Two things have stood out: the quiet ride and the above EPA gas mileage encountered (31MPG HWY). I also own a Jag XJ8 and this car is more comfortable and quiet. I do not see many on the road, so I guess the snob appeal is still lacking. A pity because this vehicle is a winner.
