Model Overview:

Although it wasn't around for very long, the Hyundai Veracruz could be a worthwhile choice for a crossover SUV. As with other Hyundai models, the Veracruz boasted plenty of features for a price that was typically less than the competition. On top of this, the Veracruz also provided an impressively luxurious cabin and a quiet ride that was comparable to many luxury-branded crossover SUVs.

On the downside, it came up short in terms of interior space compared to some other large crossovers, and didn't offer much in terms of design flair. Hyundai also didn't sell very many of them, so finding a used model that fits your desires might be hard. But overall, the Veracruz is worth a look for shoppers interested in a feature-packed midsize or large crossover.

Most Recent Hyundai Veracruz
The seven-seat Hyundai Veracruz was produced from 2007 through 2012. Under the hood was a 260-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 paired to a six-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive was standard, with all-wheel drive optional.

Originally, Hyundai offered the Veracruz in GLS, SE and Limited trim levels. Standard feature highlights for the base GLS trim initially included 17-inch wheels, heated side mirrors, air-conditioning, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and a six-speaker audio system with satellite radio. The SE was pretty similar. Major options for these trims included a sunroof, Bluetooth, heated front seats and a power driver seat. On the SE you could also get a power liftgate, leather upholstery and a premium audio system.

The Veracruz Limited came with most of the lower trims' options as standard. It also had dual-zone climate control and a power front passenger seat. Options included a navigation system and a surround-sound audio system.

Feature content largely remained the same throughout its run, although a navigation system and power liftgate became available for 2008. The following year the SE trim was dropped in favor of two optional packages available on the GLS. A rear-seat DVD entertainment system was offered for 2009 and '10 only.

When the Veracruz was introduced, it drew comparisons to luxury models rather than more pedestrian-badged competitors. The comparisons were not far-fetched. In our reviews, we found the Veracruz luxurious, well-built and very quiet on the road. Top crash test scores were another draw. On the downside, total interior cargo space and third-row rear seat room weren't quite as spacious as some competitors like the GMC Acadia. The Veracruz also looked pretty plain, which could be a turnoff for some buyers.

  • questionable interior - 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

I have loved the excellent layout of the Vera Cruz. However, the car is only 7 months old and the sterring wheel started peeling. It was replaced at no charge. Now both of the front leather seats are showing wear and once again, it is supposed to be replaced at no cost, however, whats to stop this from happening again. The mileage is fair and the ride is a little choppy at 30-35 miles. Otherwise, its a great car but I am concerned about the quality of the interior. The dealer finally admitted that he has seen the seats in other Vera Cruzs do this in the past. Why hasnt Hyundai fixed this? Would I recomend this car, the jury is still out?

Bought it new (2011 GLS) two weeks ago and am absolutely delighted with it so far. Wonderful driving experience, super capacity, overall luxury feel.

  • Great Vehicle - 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Purchased a 2008 Hyundai Limited AWD 3 weeks ago. So far I have been very impressed with the build quality and performance of this vehicle. This vehicle is loaded with all the options found in Lexus. The best part is the price. Purchased this vehicle for thousands less than Lexus, and a $4,000 Rebate. Mileage is better than my 2000 Tundra and even though I wish it was better, what can you expect when you purchase a 7 passenger vehicle. Navigation system is manufactured by LG and much easier to use than the Nav system in my Lexus.

  • Our 2010 Veracruz Experience - 2010 Hyundai Veracruz

Only had it a week or so but we absolutely love it! The acceleration is brisk when it needs to be, the tranny shifts so smooth you barely notice it. The gas mileage is not the greatest BUT we knew that going in. This enabled us to downsize from a minivan but keep the ability to haul all three teenagers if needed. I had never even looked at a Hyundai before but we are ecstatic that we included them in our list of prospects. My wife drove one, read some reviews, and we used magazine reviews to help with it all. We could not be happier.

  • 2011 Hyundai Veracruz Problems - 2011 Hyundai Veracruz
    By -

Three days ago my 2011 Veracruz with 27K miles just quit while on the road. It had a total electronic chassis failure. First the ECM warning light and then all the warning light and then car came to a stop. Towed to dealer, the next day I was told it was a loose battery cable(??), strange since no one had touched it. Drove it out next day before I got into the freeway, same thing, car quit, same warnings. Towed to dealer. They said they had 3 code and it has a throttle position sensor, after they changed it they called and said that was not it. Need to keep the car and see what it is. Three days without a car, dealer has offered to rent one though. Car is totally unreliable to take out.

We are on our 7th Hyundai and wanted to share our thoughts about. What ever Hyundai products they come out with it will be well built, highly engineered, extremely good quality, and currently own a 2007 vere-cruz with the ultimate package, and a 2007 sonata limited, not only are they beautiful they are very reliable vehicles, and I get 25 mph with our Vera-cruz two wheel drive, and get 28 mph with our v6 sonata. We are very proud of our Hyundais and will be buying the new Genesis sedan next summer, unless they put the v8 in the Vera-cruz. Now that would be something. I surely hope Hyundai at least make this an option. Some people critize a car no matter what. Hyundai rules in our house. Bernard Edwards.

We owned a 03 Nissan Murano. The Veracruz has more room, better ride, and is less noisy. May not have the name, but I think the Veracruz is better

  • 25,000 miles / one winter under the belt - 2007 Hyundai Veracruz
    By -

This winter in the Chicago area gave us our fair share of snow, and when I bought this vehicle I would never have thought this - but there were times when the snow was heavy that I took the VC instead of my Suburban! The topper is - the VC is only front wheel drive va. the four wheel on the Sub. When I bought this car I was worried about how my clients would view it when we went to golf or dinner. Most thought it was a Lexus and everyone not only loves it, but thinks I made the smarter choice when comparing the two. One client with the Acura CUV decided on the VC as his next car and another with a Lexus - traded his in for the VC as well. Love it! Smart car, great feaures.
