Overview & Reviews
Hyundai sells two cars under the Genesis name, but they could hardly be more different. The softly sprung Genesis sedan is a luxurious shot across the bow of high-end European and Japanese carmakers. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe, on the other hand, is a serious rear-wheel-drive sport coupe that gives more established performance marques a run for their money.
Available with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a naturally aspirated V6, the Genesis Coupe presents typically impressive Hyundai value, but with a high-performance edge. Sending power to the rear wheels makes for a superior driving experience, and the Genesis Coupe also boasts distinctive styling and ample feature content. These virtues make Hyundai's taut two-door one of our favorite affordable performance cars.
Current Hyundai Genesis Coupe
The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is available in six trim levels: 2.0T, 2.0T R-Spec, 2.0T Premium, 3.8 R-Spec, 3.8 Grand Touring and 3.8 Ultimate.
Power is provided by either a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine ("2.0T") or a 3.8-liter V6. The turbo-4 makes 274 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, while the V6 cranks out 348 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. For the base 2.0T, Hyundai offers either a six-speed manual (with hill-start assist) or an eight-speed automatic (with rev-matching downshifts and manual shift control). The R-Spec trim is manual only, while the Premium level is automatic only. The V6 models follow suit: a choice of manual or automatic for the Ultimate trim, manual only in the R-Spec, and automatic only for the Grand Touring.
Hyundai's reputation for generous standard equipment continues, as even in base 2.0T trim standard features include 18-inch wheels, keyless ignition and entry, Â automatic climate control, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity and USB/iPod integration. The performance-focused R-Spec loses a few luxuries (including keyless ignition), but adds 19-inch wheels with summer tires, Brembo brakes, firmer suspension tuning, a limited-slip rear differential and front sport seats. The 3.8 R-Spec gets the same upgrades.
Instead of the R-Spec's performance add-ons, the 2.0T Premium adds perks such as a sunroof, rear parking sensors, a power driver seat, the Blue Link telematics system, a navigation system and an upgraded audio system. The Grand Touring and Ultimate trims further add niceties like leather upholstery, heated front seats and rear parking sensors.
In testing, a V6-powered Hyundai Genesis Coupe ran the 0-60-mph sprint in a quick 5.3 seconds. The 2.0T did it in 6.5 seconds. The 2.0T's lighter weight, however, makes for a slightly more balanced driving experience. That said, either version provides the engaging and athletic driving dynamics expected from a well-engineered, rear-wheel-drive sport coupe. Steering response is quick and crisp, balance is excellent and body roll is kept nicely in check. On the other hand, the ride in R-Spec and Ultimate trims is a bit rough due to their firmer suspensions and bigger wheels, so make sure you go over some bumps on a test-drive.
Inside, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe has relatively high-quality materials with good fit and finish. The driver seat has ample bolstering and provides a low, cockpit-like driving position. Buyers should know that the small backseat is strictly for children. Overall, though, the Genesis Coupe is a winner in the South Korean carmaker's lineup, helping to further define it as a value leader in both luxury and performance cars.
Used Hyundai Genesis Coupe Models
The Genesis Coupe debuted for 2010 in seven trim levels, which are for the most part similar to those of the current car. Key exceptions would be the "Track" trims – the 2.0T version was dropped after the first model year, while the 3.8 version was eventually replaced by the Ultimate for 2014. Originally, the 2.0T's turbo-4 produced 210 hp, while the 3.8-liter V6 produced 306 hp. The available automatic transmissions were different as well, with a five-speed paired to the 2.0T and a six-speed for the 3.8.
The most notable changes occurred for 2013. Front-end styling became more aggressive, the eight-speed automatics were introduced and both engines received their current outputs. That year also saw revised, sharper steering and the availability of a telescoping steering column. A year later saw the addition of keyless ignition and entry, hill-start assist and rev-matching downshifts for automatic transmissions.

1st Impressions - 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
By Van - October 30 - 8:30 amWe were going to buy a Sonata when we saw the coupe and were floored. Took it for a test drive and were sold on the spot knowing Hyundais reliability. Having only put 250 miles on the vehicle, its a little early to give true impressions and ratings on the vehicle until it is broken in. MPG for this vehicle so far is good having obtained an average of 25 MPG on both Hwy/City... as long as you can keep your foot from getting heavy on the gas. This car is a blast to drive for the price and handles very well and predictable. Yes, there are some small quirks Ive noticed, but I can easily look past these for the fun and pleasure of driving this car.

Fun but unrefined - 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
By Nomad - October 30 - 7:43 amThe car is fun to drive and look at, but has many flaws. Ive had multiple transmission problems to include a total replacement at 4200 miles. Traction control doesnt work all the time, the bluetooth radio is horrible as it syncs and wont allow calls until complete (which can take 15 minutes each time you get in the car). The paint on my hood had to be buffed and polished due to it being "soft", the speedometer is inaccurate, and Hyundai refuses to act on many of the issues. I would not recommend this vehicle and am in the process of using the lemon law on mine.

Best car Ive ever owned! - 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
By rossk - October 28 - 12:32 pmI have owned nearly 30 cars, and the Genesis Coupe is by far my favorite. Its comfortable, fun to drive, reliable (no problems after 30,000 miles), and it looks great. Hyndai name or not, this is one of the best values for the money, and one of the best sports coupes - period - on the market today. It may not be the fastest 0-60, but it sure is quick, and it has amazing handling characteristics. If you are looking for a PURE sports car that is liveable & reliable, this is the car for you. I cant wait to drive this car every day!

surprising coupe - 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
By zimboy - September 6 - 10:48 amThe eye-catching rear-wheel drive Genesis Coupe surprised from the moment i started it. Nice sport sound and then very responsive motor and torque. Great visibility excellent grip and just-firm-enough suspension make it a delight to drive. The 2.0T wont throw you back in your seat but performance is enough to have legal fun and yet be a practical day-to-day car. I test drove the 3.8 V6 and found it to be a bit wild and hard on the road. But if you want more power it is great.

Love It - 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
By JBab - August 14 - 10:16 amI have 0 buyers remorse. I absolutely love this car! Honestly, I was very skeptical until I actually went down to the dealership and saw it in person. I knew at that point that this was the car I was going to get. A lot of reviews talk about a so-so auto system, with the premium you get the 10 speaker infinity sounds system. Honestly, I think that for the majority of the people the audio system will be perfect. The speakers are clear and can handle some power. The sub is a little underpowered. Like I said, for the average person, the audio will be great. Any one who spends 5000+ on their system wont be impressed but thats ok because they are going to rip it out anyway.

Genesis coupe buyers BEWARE - 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
By jorgep - August 2 - 10:56 amGot car brand new with 30 miles in odometer, @ 1500 miles dealer replaced tranny under warranty because of grinding gears on 2nd and 3rd gear, after several trips to the dealer tranny still grinds, tried to talked to consumer affairs and so far no responce, do your research before buying this car, this is not an isolated problem many customers complaining with the SAME issue and Hyundai so far have not find a fix for the problem. This is from the 2010 brochure: Triple-cone synchronizers on first through third gears help ensure smooth and durable shifting, whether youÂ’re headed up or down through the gears." Smooth??? No way it is smooth, my 2001 honda civic sounds better than this car, durable??? my tranny lasted only 1500 miles. This is just for them to sell you the car, then once you get it they will ingnore you

Worth every penny - 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
By vzllib3 - July 1 - 4:10 pmGreat ride, People think its a new BMW or Lexus. I test drove the G37,TL,TSX,IS 250, and 350. This car is right up there with all of them. Handles like a sports car when you stomp on the gas. You can beat the price with the options it comes with. I was skeptical at first of a Hyundai, and how people were going to rag on me. But ever one loves it. I had to wait a week to get the one that I wanted but it sure what worth it.

Love this car, but... - 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
By genlove - June 26 - 9:46 amCar: 3.8 Track, Bathurst Black, 6 Auto. First of all, this is simply THE MOST beautiful car on the road! Bar none! Everywhere I drive it heads turn! Almost causes wrecks. Far and away THE MOST CAR FOR THE MONEY Ive ever owned. PERIOD! Handling: GLUE. Ride Quality: Rough, but youll come to love it. Performance: Very Good. Needs a V8 and/or better transmission programming. Build Quality: Hyundai. The NEW standard. The ONLY quibble I have with this car AT ALL, is that the Auto Trans needs to be either reprogrammed more aggressively, or such a mode needs to be added. No one I know buying this car is primarily interested in gas mileage.

Daily Drive - 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
By scottyc - May 11 - 9:56 pmTraded my BMW 328 daily drive. The genesis coupe is really fun to drive. Seats are luxurious and comfortable. Handles great on all the turns and the catback has a great sound with the 6 speed auto climbs the gears nicely. My weekend car is C6 corvette but both equally fun to drive. OK I took off the huydai fron grill and replaced it with the chrome aftermaket grill for looks.
