I just baught the Elantra, January 24th. Reading the reviews about the MPGs, I have to say that even when I drove this car for the first week, I was getting about <25> MPG. the car had 35 miles on it.. The MPGs have been getting better since the first tank of gas. first tank fill, I got 30 MPGs.MY second fill, I got 31.4 Mpgs. this is driving HWY and City.. The first tank i have gone 274 miles, on 9.9 Gallons. 2nd tank Ive gone 308.5 mile on 10.3 gallons, 3rd tank Ive gone 336.2 miles on 10.7 gallons. The computer Avg showed 33.1. Actual calculated, is 31.4. by dividing the miles to the gallons filled.. The computer is about 2 MPGs high. I will continue with up dates on the MPGs

Let me talk about fuel economy. Ive read other reviews that bash this cars actual MPGs. Well, no car is a miracle car (not yet). When they rate this at 29 city / 40 highway, those are peak averages in very selective circumstances. This is nothing new, every single car on the market does this. What is amazing is that I DO average (combined city/highway) around 30-32 mpg per tank. And yes, this car will do 40 mpg on the highway, Ive even gotten it up to 45 mpg on flat surfaces, @60mph with cruise & no AC on. This car is nothing short of amazing. Test drove them all, this one is in a class by itself. Definitely worth a look. Ive owned it for about 7 months now with 12,000 miles.

traded our 2010 elantra se for the 2012 gls its more comfortable than the 2010 gas mileage is alittle bit better car handles well but suspension is cheap on this car we have 7500 miles on the car and I belive the rear shocks are gone it sounds like the back wheels are falling off we sent it back to the dealer they said everything looks good its going back a third time it has the old time strait rear axle that went out in the 80s biege seats stain easy car has some blind spots front pilars and rear hard to see when pullig out in traffic backing can be bad also gas mileage is between 24 - 32 sometimes if the wind is blowing in the right direction you might get 36 on the highway not much power

  • I LOVE IT! - 2012 Hyundai Elantra

I have to say, this is the most impressive car and I am so glad that I bought it. Orginally I wanted the Sonata (which is also nice) but felt to big after test driving it. The salesman introduced this vehicle to me and I was hooked. Its much roomer in the inside than what it looks like and the design is very sleek. I fill up at $35 and get about 33 miles to a gallon believe it or not. Its stylish, easy to drive, and is perfect for city parking!

I purchased the 2012 model back in the summer of 2011 - this has led to some confusions in reviews. This is really a great car - for its design intentions -- I purchased it due to my 120 mile per day commute - all highway - it has been reliable, and the gas mileage claims have been very accurate. I love the look of the car, its handling and its fairly peppy for a small car. My major gripes - the car is extremely light and does not do well in any cross winds - it becomes jittery. The front and rear body work is on the cheap side - all light polymers... In snow it is terrible - I just purchased a set of snow tires and this fixed the problem

  • Great Commuter - 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Overall, this is a great car to own. Purchase price was below other vehicles ($18,100), the warranty is the best in the industry, and maintenance costs should be low. Hyundai uses a timing chain rather than a belt, so there will be no replacement needed every 60k miles like a Honda. Hyundai also has a sealed transmission that will never need to be flushed or have fluid replaced. The owners manual also recommends changing the oil only every 7,500 miles under normal driving. Fuel efficiency has ranged from 37-39 mpg at freeway speeds in good weather, and 33-37 mpg in cold weather.

  • 2012 Elantra " Diesel" engine - 2012 Hyundai Elantra
    By -

I bought a 2012 GLS on 12/20/2012. After two days I thought it was a diesel as it "rattled" that much. Took it to the dealer and they found metal shavings in the oil of my car with 26 miles on the clock. They replaced it for a 2012 Limited and this one has a worse grinding "diesel" like sound. I drove a Jetta TDI which is half as quiet as my Elantra. This is not just at startup, but when you accelerate. Am I crazy or is this just how the motor sounds? My friends 2012 doesn`t sound half as bad.

  • Awesome Car - 2012 Hyundai Elantra

I got a new lease on the 2012 Elantra Limited a few days ago. I test drove so many cars before deciding on the Elantra. It has everything you can imagine and more as standard features. I put 110 miles on it over the last couple days and the gas gauge barely moved off full. My husband is 62 and there is more than enough leg room for him. I know I made the right decision getting this car its much better than I imagined.

  • Pros and cons - 2012 Hyundai Elantra
    By -

I purchased the 2012 Elantra about a month ago. I had a 2005 Sante Fe that got approx. 15 mph, no matter where I drove, town or highway. I am averaging 32-35 with the elantra, big plus! Love the interior and controls. The exterior: sporty. The cons: I find being able to see clearly while backing up, leaves a lot to be desired. I can understand why some models are equipped with cameras. The shape of the rear windows makes a blind spot, the height of the rear end is too high to easily see while backing. The headlights: even on high beam, there is not much distance or light. High beam looks like dim compared to my previous vehicle. I am more uncomfortable driving at night now.

  • My first new car! and I LOVE IT! - 2012 Hyundai Elantra

I purchased the 2012 Elantra GLS with preferred package last night. This car has gone beyond my expectations. I wanted to get the Limited with a sunroof but my money couldnt stretch as far as I wanted it to. So I guess I will get a sunroof put on it later or trade this one in the next 2-3 yrs for one that has one. Anyway, the Elantra actually has pep in its step dont let the 148 hp and 131 torque fool you. Already in one day I have acheived 42 mpg and I tend to have lead foot. Thats saying a lot! My beige interior is phenomenal and the red allure exterior color is so crisp and shiny. The elantra gls technology and safety puts all other compacts to shame except for cruze and focus.
