Overview & Reviews
Hyundai's Elantra sedan was redesigned last year, but the big news for 2002 is the release of the GT version, an all-new five-door hatchback that boasts such upscale standard equipment as a leather-trimmed interior, European suspension tuning, four-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch wheels, foglamps and a CD player. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.
- Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultra-low price tag.
- Funky front styling details.

Smart Car, Smart Consumer - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By BIGA - August 8 - 2:00 amI can honestly say that I am most impressed with this vehicle. Standing at 20k on the road and many months in the passange/drivers seat I have grown to appreciate the ergonomics, powertrain, and the climate control system in this vehicle. For those of larger stature, this car is easy to access (64" and still comfortable in the front, less so in the back). It is more powerful than the competition yet it remains composed at all corners, unlike most econos. Value is the word of the day and this car aims to please the wallet and the commuter.

Great car for the money! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By the1cooljay - May 10 - 10:00 amIve only put 500 miles on this car so far, but I am already impressed with this Hyundai product. Nice power and zippy performance with the manual version I have. I got this car with a $2000 off sale at my dealer, so paid only $11,500 brand new! Very good deal.

26K in PA - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By PattyP - February 22 - 10:00 amBought the car nearly 2 years ago, now Im up to 26K. Ive had no real problems with it; however, I did notice that when the automatic trans shifts gear, its a bit sloppy between gears. Took it back to have it checked out and the 2003 loaner they gave me did the same thing. They say its normal. Well see how it goes but everything else is just great...reliable, good power, very comfortable.
