This Year's Model Updates:

The Elantra received a slight refresh for this year in the form of a new hood, deck lid, front and rear bumpers, grille, headlamps and taillights. Interior revisions include a redesigned instrument cluster, vents, center console and climate controls. The engine has been fitted with continuously variable valve timing, and it is now sold in SULEV or ULEV configurations (depending on the state in which it's purchased) which offer horsepower ratings of 138 and 132, respectively. The base GLS model now offers remote keyless entry as standard equipment, while GT models now have a Kenwood CD/MP3 audio system as standard.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultralow price tag, long warranty.
Cons:
  • Poor offset crash test score, antilock brakes available only as a package option.

  • Excellent value - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

I have had this car for a year, and I love it. Its fun to drive, VERY comfortable on long road trips, and great on gas. There is TONS of storage space when the back seat is folded down. My only complaints are the bad paint quality (its already chipping) and the cheap sun visors (the mirror cover-flap has fallen off TWICE, even after being replaced with a brand new

great value for the money with many options (e.g. traction control, 6 speakers not available on other compacts in same class)

  • Great Car for the price - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

I recently bought the Hyundai Elantra 4 dr GT hatchback. I found this car is much better than the Elantra I bought back in 2000. Much better suspension, much better handling on the curves. Comes with an MP3 player standard. I love this car! The seats are very comfy and adjustable with lumbar support. All leather interior. You have to take one for a test drive! The only thing I dont like about it is where the cup holders are placed. Pretty minor.

After careful review and examination of all direct competitors we purchased our second Hyundai (Sonata in Nov-03). Compared to the competition, the Elantra is in a class by itself from interior comfort, storage/trunk space, real drive ability and take charge road handling performance this buggy is a real sleeper. The sporty yet some what sophisticated exterior draw you in to an exciting and very pleasureable ownership experience.

  • Little things dont work - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Great gas mileage, neat 5 speed, alittle gutless, overall turning radius is fine (u-Turn) on a normal street works, however its the taillight that wont operate replaced it 5 times, not the buld, and the headlights, do not last. this is my 5th replacement, Im a courier, so I never shut off the car from morning to night, saves on starter motor, and all the other pertinent parts, only lose about 4 mpg so instead of 30, I get about 25-26. not too shabby for a 2001, with 168000 miles so far

  • The Standard for Value - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Owned at least a dozen cars, 4 of them Hyundai Elantras. Each better than the last. Most satifying car ive ever owned. Havent found a better value, or better coporate-buyer relations. Low resale value more than made up for with warranty & repeat buyer incentives. This is the first car ive owned that i cannot imagine trading in before the wheels fall off (not likely).

I have had my new Elantra for just a few weeks. Im 63" and fit well in this car. The controls are easy to use and the drive of the car is firm and tight and peppy. In addition to feel of the car, it just plain looks great. The CD/MP3 player is a welcome addition to an already great interior. However, in another review, I read that the sound system looks too glitzy because of the way that it flashes different colors. After I bought the car and read the manual, I found that this color flashing option is a demo mode and can be turned off. For $14K(+) and with the standard set of options, you just cant do better.

  • A great gas sipper - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

This car has been a great change from our GMC 14mpg mini-van. We took our first road trip and pulled 32mpg w/a.c. on. Im 62" and have plenty of leg/head room, my wife is 51" and can pull up w/in easy reach. The trunk can fit quite a bit. 48qt cooler,2 sleeping bags/pillows,6 man tent,2 chairs and some toys for the kids. The seats are comfortable but not cushy. Our longest sit has been 3hrs w/one rest stop, a little stiff for that long. For around town and short jaunts its great. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for style, affordability and a great warranty package.

I Love my new car, i was going to get a Kia but i decided that the Elantra was the same price with way more options. I like the way it drives...a lot better than the Kia also. The test drive will say it all so i recommend you take one! :)
