This Year's Model Updates:

Hyundai's Elantra sedan was redesigned last year, but the big news for 2002 is the release of the GT version, an all-new five-door hatchback that boasts such upscale standard equipment as a leather-trimmed interior, European suspension tuning, four-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch wheels, foglamps and a CD player. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultra-low price tag.
Cons:
  • Funky front styling details.

  • Unexpected!!!!!! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

I was totally shocked! When my wife and I started looking for an inexpensive second vehicle, we never thought that it would be a Hyundai; but the test drive sold us. I had no idea that it even had that much power for a Korean car. The design is just beautiful- updated and sleek- it also has a very nicely balanced sound system that I plan to add a little low-end for my liking. The colors are great to choose from and they even have nice upgrades. Totally satisfied and you will be too.

We purchased this new 2001 champagne Elantra GLS for my Mother in August of 2001. We purchase package # 3 which includes the moonroof, CD player, cruise and the remote entry. WE LOVE this car!!! I cannot say one negative thing about it. It is fun to drive along with being a great looking car. We paid $14,000.00 and it listed for $15,494.00. The dealership, Twin Tier Hyundai treated us like GOLD!! I currently own a 2000 VW Beetle and 1993 Nissan Maxima. I am seriously considering trading in my 1993 Maxima, with 126,000 miles, on a new Elantra GT!! I RAVE about the Hyundai product to everyone that I know.

The Elantra is a fantastic value for the money. There are other cars in this category that will do some things better. None of them offer the value or warranty that the Elantra offers. It has a spirited powertrain. The suspension could be geared more for sport and less for comfort.

I bought my Hyundai Elantra GLS stick about a year ago and have put about 10,000 miles on it. I traded a 2000 Beatle to get this car with all the bells and whistles. The Beatle handled like a sports car so I wasnt expecting much when I switched. What a surprise. This car handles just as well and better in some cases. Steering is better, suspension is great, trans is easier and it has lots of room inside and in the trunk. it has the same size engine as the Beatle and all the power you need in a car this size. I strongly recommend this car to anyone on a budget and even those who arent. You wont be disappointed.

  • More then you would expect - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

I paid 16500$ for my GT. This is after taxes, fees, etc. I took all the optional equipement and California emmisions. For the price I paid I got more then any other vehicle in the class could offer. GT looks great, is extremly fun to drive, and has great performance. If you are looking for a car that wont drain your wallet and you want to have fun driving it, GT is your best bet. Love the car and would definitely buy it again!

  • Elantra: Quality and Value - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

The Elantra is an excellent option for those seeking value and performance in an economy car. The ride and performance are first rate. Being an Acura owner, I am used to excellent fit and finish. The Elantra measures up to these standards; remarkable considering it costs half that of a 3.2 TL. Strongly recommended.

A pretty good smaller car. It does everything asked of it. Nothing stands out as exceptional, nor is anything terrible.

  • I love my new Elantra!!! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Rides well, quiet, and it has a zip. Sporty yet sophisticated look. It has a drop out engine (for crashes). Lot of extras on this car that you wouldnt expect for this price class. There are lots of storage compartments in the front. There are also webbed pockets behind each of the front seats. There is plenty of legroom in the back. The trunk is really good size as well.

I bought an Accent in 95. I was completely surprised at how reliable this car was.I drove the heck out of that car, and finally it came time to upgrade to something bigger that I felt safe driving around L.A. in. I shopped around for a good 4-5 months and drove several different cars. I was a bit biased towards the Hyundai, so I spent a little more time at Keyes. I had a great meeting at the dealership with the internet managers and they could not have been nicer. I got a great deal on a great car. My Elantra is comfortable, handles well, feels great on the road and gets excellent gas mileage.Hyundai makes great cars and deserves more respect.

  • bad weather - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

used to drive a jeep grand cherokee which i ran into the ground. bought the 2002 elantra after doing a lot of research. liked the standard features offered and bargain price and warranty. generally like the car but find it to be awful in bad weather (rain/snow). car doesnt hold the road at all, slides all over. generally like the car but wonder if i shouldnt have bought another 4 x 4. also have problems with the rear doors not shutting firmly. brakes squeak and wipers scrape. this after only 5 months of use. a sign of other nuisance problems to come ????
