Overview & Reviews
Hyundai's Elantra sedan was redesigned last year, but the big news for 2002 is the release of the GT version, an all-new five-door hatchback that boasts such upscale standard equipment as a leather-trimmed interior, European suspension tuning, four-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch wheels, foglamps and a CD player. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.
- Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultra-low price tag.
- Funky front styling details.

My Elantra - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By Gus Fernandez - July 11 - 2:00 amMost comfortable car I have ever driven Handles nice and it is quite good on the gas mileage. Didnt like the color of the car at first because it was a midnight gray but it grew on me for being very different. Sometimes it would like like a dark blue or purple under certain lighting conditions. Seats are quite comfortable and the engine has pep. Easy to maintain, my only complaint is why did they have to put the fuel filter in a place hard to get at. Warranty is also quite good. overall value of car I would purchase again.

Best I ever purchased - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By cmazgo - July 9 - 2:00 amI purchased it for gas mileage--I got much more. Surprised to find that it was fun to drive, very reliable and well built. I drive 100 miles/day highway and am averaging 32-34 mpg (One tankful even reached 36.4!) I presently have 49,000 miles on it. The only problem was a burned up windshield wiper motor. Was replaced promptly. I have never had a better experience with any other car AND the service department from the dealer where I bought it. I never thought any dealer would care about quality after the sale- --I was wrong. If this is the new "HYUNDAI", I will be buying another!

Outstanding Value - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By Super Spook - July 6 - 10:00 amI looked at and drove all cars under 16k and this Elantra GLS was by far the best all around value. No delivery issues, no squeeks, no leaks, no rattles, no wind noise, great handleing, great ride and comfortable seating for long trips.

Rons Rally Red GT - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By RGW - June 24 - 2:00 amExcellent car! As a college graduation present, we gave our daughter our 2001 Elantra GLS sedan. So, Dad needed a new car! Having compared it with other cars in its class (of which there are none!), Elantra GT beat them in overall value, standard equipment, horsepower and interior room! Not to mention euro- style and looks! I chose the Rally Red over the other colors, just to be different. If you ever make one in yellow, Im there! I put almost 9,000 miles on it in less than 6 months. Love to drive it? Yup!

Whats wrong with you people - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By atblis - June 16 - 2:00 amThis car isnt that great(actually its junk). I want to like it, but I still wish (more now than ever) Id bought a Honda/Toyota. The handling is quirky, but adequate. The brakes are weak (try panic stopping). The clutch is weak and touchy. The motor does make adequate power. Fuel mileage is the bottom end of mediocre. Also, plan on putting new tires on it every 10,000 miles (or less) once it gets older. The dealer has been worthless. They wont even look at the car. "It needs aligned." I just had the thing aligned 1000 miles ago (and this is the 2nd time because of tire wear).

My Elatra GT: No regrets. - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By happywithmyelantra - May 24 - 10:00 amThrough both parents, I get a substantial discount on 3 major brands of cars that offer similar vehicles to the Elantra. Lots of research later, IN SPITE OF the discounts for other brands, I still got the Elantra. Everyone, including myself, is amazed at what you get for the price in the GT. Great car.

1 drive & 1 look & got hooked :) - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By laputa - May 24 - 10:00 amsimply the best car ive purchsed, actually 2nd best; my best & my favorite was the hyundai xg300 without regards to price. looks & feels very expensive but on the contrary its a hyundai. i paid just over 12k & still cant belive the car & the warrenty pkg i got for the price. i am a loyal hyundai customer for life. so far no problems or rattles its been very reliable. it feels solid and well assembled. car turns heads where ever i go, ppl thinks its a cross b/w a saab & a bmw. full of amenities at a rockbottom price. my friend regrets his recent purchase of toyota corolla for 17k, but i wouldnt think of trading.
