Overview & Reviews
Hyundai's Elantra sedan was redesigned last year, but the big news for 2002 is the release of the GT version, an all-new five-door hatchback that boasts such upscale standard equipment as a leather-trimmed interior, European suspension tuning, four-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch wheels, foglamps and a CD player. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.
- Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultra-low price tag.
- Funky front styling details.

3rd Hyundai 2nd Elantra and loving it - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By Gman - February 15 - 2:00 amIve had my GLS for two months now, and I love it. Smile everytime I have to drive somewhere. Made a few of my coworkers mad after taking them for a drive(One had just bought a Sentra for $14000 and the other bought an Echo for $12500) and I told them I only paid $10500 and their cars dont have all the stuff the Elantra comes with standard.

Blown Away by my new Hyundai - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By dbraun - January 7 - 10:30 amI wasnt looking for a Hyundai at all. After seeing the quality and driving this vehicle, i was sold. I paid under $14,000 for this car with CD, Alarm, keyless entry and power everything. I was looking at a Civic but this is what the Civic used to be. I am blown away.

What a great little car - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By cintidriver - December 24 - 10:00 amBought the car in February and 9000 miles so far with no problems. My wife was extremely skeptical when I bought this car, but driving is believing, and she now drives it more than I do. Purchased without ABS and sunroof for $11,300. Great experience at dealership, and friendly service since. Car handles much better than expected for this class and comfortably seats my entire family. Originally bought as secondary vehicle to get me to and from work, but has quickly become the primary mode of transportation for my family.

Love this car - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By Manton863 - November 15 - 1:32 amThis car is great it is roomy and fun to drive and holds up well with day to day driving. Like the rear disk brakes but only if you have abs. I have found that if you put fuel injector cleaner and a stp 4 cylinder oil treatment every time you do the oil, (which is only another couple bucks) you get alot better gas mileage out of the car.

Its still just a cheap car. - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By Big Muggle - November 5 - 11:31 amThis car has a few things going for it: leather interior, blue dash lights, fog lamps. It seems reasonably solidly built, and the engine is powerful enough for me. However, I think the essential cheapness of the car is evident in some of the mechanical and safety components. There have been 2 safety recalls, the catalytic converter had to be replaced (warranty) and the transmission had to be reprogrammed (warranty). The transmission is still clunky, the car vibrates under braking (cheap rotors), and also at highway speeds. The steering is totally numb (think 72 Olds), so the car is no fun to drive. Headlights awful. Windshield awful in rain. Hey, it was cheap. Next time, Mazda 3.

Magnificent AutomobileLovelyElantraGT - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By GLCMAT - October 30 - 2:00 amI must tell anybody vividly how joyful I am to have purchased a Hundai Elantra GT 2002(hatchback). Its mechanical, electrical and physical features are about the space-age (with cd player, too, great!)--what more will I ask for. This SMALL-GIANT automobile is socially and economically created with prestige for everyone with taste of class-WOW! My family and friends admire it.

won over bu Hyundai - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By Robertwithanr - October 11 - 2:00 amI was skeptical at first about buying a used Hyundai but after the first six months it seems to be even a better deal. I have owned Hondas and Toyotas but this is as good a car. Great economical and reliable transportation. 75K miles and still going strong.
