Overview & Reviews
Hyundai's Elantra sedan was redesigned last year, but the big news for 2002 is the release of the GT version, an all-new five-door hatchback that boasts such upscale standard equipment as a leather-trimmed interior, European suspension tuning, four-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch wheels, foglamps and a CD player. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.
- Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultra-low price tag.
- Funky front styling details.

Highly recommended - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By DP - January 7 - 9:30 amPrice, Safety, Style, Warranty, Roominess, Smooth ride. This one blows out the competition, including Civic. We got one pretty much loaded...auto., cruise, ABS, side air bags, etc. for $12,500. Includes many std. features that youd have to pay extra for on other cars (i.e., fold down rear seat). Seats are a bit firm. Good rear leg room. Acceleration just ok, but once up to speed power is very good.

Elantra GT 2002 Automatic - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By RickJ - December 9 - 10:00 amAfter much research and two test drives, my wife and I turned in our leased 1999 VW Jetta and purchased a red 2002 Elantra GT demo w/pkg. 11. We love it and cant believe the price we paid. The car is powerful, quiet and well laid out. After 3,000 miles we dont have one complaint. Go Hyundai.

Love this car - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By Edward Wronsky - November 11 - 12:20 amI traded in my 1998 Tiburon, only because I wanted the additional protection of side impact airbags and occasional use of the rear seat for adults. I was initially attracted to the GT when I saw one on the dealers lot, and couldnt believe how much car was available for sixteen thousand dollars. Since my experience with the quality of the Tiburon was very positive, I had no reservations about buying another Hyundai product.

1-Year Update - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By W Whicker - April 11 - 10:00 amNow have 13k on the GT and its still like new in every way. No mechanical (or any) problems so far. Its a great car at a great price. The hatch is good for hauling lots of stuff. Great fuel economy (25-26 mpg). Its a great value new or used!
