This Year's Model Updates:

Hyundai's Elantra sedan was redesigned last year, but the big news for 2002 is the release of the GT version, an all-new five-door hatchback that boasts such upscale standard equipment as a leather-trimmed interior, European suspension tuning, four-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch wheels, foglamps and a CD player. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultra-low price tag.
Cons:
  • Funky front styling details.

  • A good little car - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

When my last car expired abruptly, I had to move quickly to get a new car. Id been aiming for a Toyota, but I had to set my sights a little lower. The Hyundai Elantra fit into my budget, though I was initially a little nervous about the Hyundai name. I neednt have worried. Ive had no problems with the car at all, and I even learned to drive a stick on it. The gas mileage has been decent, if not an astounding improvement over my last car. The ride has been smooth, and its been nicely responsive. No problems yet at all, though Im reassuerd to know that if I do have problems like my previous car (not a Hyundai) gave me, that the Hyundais warranty will cover those.

My daughter was driving the car when she was in a major crash. The car was totaled but she opened the door and walked away without so much as a scratch. The car was replaced with another Elantra as I dont want her driving anything else.

Just bought the GT. My first new car purchase! I have put my first 500 miles on and look forward to many more! There is not a better car out there for the money! Trust me I looked!

  • So far so Good - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

When I first saw the Elantra GT on the lot I was shocked that Hyundai had actually put some effort into styling. The GT looks European and the suspension backs up its image. The GT handles superbly for a car of its price and the engine is smooth and powerful, especially on the freeway. One test drive and this car will blow the others in its class out of the water.

What a gem-I looked for 3 months- researching cars-Hondas, Toyota...(I thought that would be the ONLY car I would ever buy). I noticed an Elantra GT on the highway-was very curious-and started to research. After the test drive I was hooked...Fabulous car...Highly recommend!

  • Get One While You Can! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

I dont know how they do it for the money. Once Hyundai realizes what a bargain this car really is - they will probably raise the price. I traded in my 2000 Beetle for a GLS 5 spd w/ all the standard features plus cruise, remote entry and alarm, stereo CD, woodgrain trim, moonroof, mudguard, and cargo net for $13,840. The dealer was polite, helpful, and gave me a great price on my trade-in. I took my Elantra home for $2500.00. This car is comfortable, logical, and a dream to drive.

  • do check out this car! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

I researched new cars for over six months and just couldnt help feeling ripped off by all other makes after taking a closer look at Hyundai. All the features I wanted, for $3000 less than a Civic EX! (And a 10-year warranty to calm my fears about reliability...) What about resale value? What Ill get less for it in a few years is in my bank account now--collecting interest. Love the responsive ride, ergonomics, large load capacity, Euro styling. Nothing rattles, automatic transmission shifts as smooth as butter.

  • Wow...and I only paid $14,366.00!! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

What can I say about this car only that Hyundai must be losing money on this one. I think they are trying hard for market share. Man...I love this car....Black and fine. In a few years I will put 16s on it and mabye lower it about 1 1/2 inches. If this thing had a turbo...Im telling you there would be no need to even test drive anything within 10K of its price.

  • awesome! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

This wonderful car has been a blessing for me. Its one of the most reliable cars i have ever driven. With 133 ft/lbs. of torque, acceleration is not a problem and with 140 horsepower, highway passing is easily accomplished. The smooth design of this machine is one of the best around giving you a sporty look as well as one of class. Brake lights bigger than your head let everyone know when to stop! An A/C that will always keep you cool, even in the dead of summer. All the features needed to live in comfort and drive in style are right at your fingertips. It is truly an amazing vehicle.

  • Excellent Buy! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

After our 2000 Elantra was deemed a lemon, we were terrified at the thought of owning another Hyundai. We have had our 2001 Elantra for over a year, and we love it. The design is sporty, but functional. Fun to drive. It is fairly comfortable. I am happy to say that it is VERY dependable.
