Hyundai's Elantra sedan was redesigned last year, but the big news for 2002 is the release of the GT version, an all-new five-door hatchback that boasts such upscale standard equipment as a leather-trimmed interior, European suspension tuning, four-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch wheels, foglamps and a CD player. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.

  First the cons... the trunk cover panel rattles slightly at low speeds and my AC fan developed a rattle after 10 months. Now the pros... Of 5 new cars Ive owned, only my Honda Accord gave me less complaints in the first year. Its a true pleasure to drive. Great, responsive handling, generous driver and passenger room, solid passing power, and that gorgeous styling. Im just sad to say that in 6k of driving, Ive seen another one on the road once.

  After trying almost all small sedan/hatchbacks for my wife decision was easy. No other one offered so much space, features, usability, power and luxury at once in that class for that money. Even as VW Passat driver I enjoy driving GT. Hope the brandname would get more recognition for the quality not only the price. Thanks Hyundai for this beauty!!!!!

  Plenty o character in this car with the best apparent value of all I researched and tested. Hot, fun, practical, and a bit different (read: better) than your neighbors. Im consistently glad I chose it, and my friends are pleasantly surprised when they check it out.

  The car was given to me by my father. The car drove exceptionally well. The only complaint he and I had was the lowness of the drivers seat which getting out of every day led to bad backs. Unfortunately, I had an accident, in a frontal crash, where the Elantra ended in disaster and was totalled. I hope the 2005/2006 models are improved in safety.

  Can not beat it for the price. Compare to similar vehicles not 20K+ cars. Comfortable.

  After owning a Tiburon and having no mechanical problems with it, I purchased my Elantra GT. I knew it to be a steal with all of its standard features and great styling. So far, Ive been just as happy with this Hyundai as I have been with my first. The structural integrity is incredible. I was hit three times by a drunk driver in a hit and run accident, and my car didnt budge from its lane. The leather interior is as beautiful as it is utilitarian. People tell me it looks like a SAAB. I got the look without paying the high premium I would have for the SAAB. My neighbor teased me about purchasing the Elantra; his SAAB has been in the shop twice this year.

  I looked at several other options and for the money this was by far the best deal. I gave it a little going through durring the test drive and found it really quiet and responsive.

  I didnt even consider Hyundai until I got to the dealership. I test drove it and loved it!
