This Year's Model Updates:

The Elantra received a slight refresh for this year in the form of a new hood, deck lid, front and rear bumpers, grille, headlamps and taillights. Interior revisions include a redesigned instrument cluster, vents, center console and climate controls. The engine has been fitted with continuously variable valve timing, and it is now sold in SULEV or ULEV configurations (depending on the state in which it's purchased) which offer horsepower ratings of 138 and 132, respectively. The base GLS model now offers remote keyless entry as standard equipment, while GT models now have a Kenwood CD/MP3 audio system as standard.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultralow price tag, long warranty.
Cons:
  • Poor offset crash test score, antilock brakes available only as a package option.

  • Loving it so far. - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Ive had my Elantra GT for just under a year now.I bought it used for about $11K last May 2005 with 35,000 miles on it. Its fully loaded with sunroof, traction control, Kenwood CD Stereo w/ detachable face. No way I would have gotten so much for such that price from the other cars I was considering (Golf, Matrix, Protege, Saturn).Ive got just over 52,000 miles on it now. I love this car. I drive 75 miles a day to get to work and driving around Chicago streets and highways is so much more comfortable. Cargo space is excellent for the size of the car. Only problem, that recently popped up, is with cruise control switch which was replaced by the warranty. Just regular maintanence so far

  • Incredible Car! - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Engine: Quiet at idle, sounds awesome at full-throttle, responsive, not underpowered. Clutch operation is smooth, yet grippy. Suspension: Unbelievably smooth and comfortable ride - like a Cadillac, yet handling leans more towards that of a sporty car. Stops fast and straight. Quiet tires (Michelin). Interior: Roomy and comfortable. Hyundai thought of everything, from numerous storage compartments to hiding rear cup holders. Factory sound equipment sounds extremely nice, with good bass and ear-tingling highs. Exterior: Attractive styling compared with previous years. Good paint selection.

After my parked 98 Accord was totaled by a reckless driver that was driving too fast my heart broke. I thought nothing would be able to replace the Accord. However the moment I test drove the 2004 Elantra it felt right. I felt so comfortable and safe driving it, I had to get it!!!! The exterior/interior are very classy looking and ive been getting tons of compliments on it!!!! Lauren

  • Skeptical at first but... - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

I couldnt have totaled my last Volvo at a worse time, financially. So, I went in search of some realiable transportation, telling myself that it would just be for a year max and then I could get into another Volvo. After reading about this car in the Kiplingers Report, then reading the reviews on here and other sites, I called my dealership. Unfortunately, this was soon after a Hyundai ship had been lost at sea and these cars were a bit hard to come by but they found me one and even came down to my price. Well, its been over two years and Im still driving it. Not because I have to but because I actually like it. Quality, milage, its there!

I bought my 04 Elantra GLS after I decided my Hyundai Accent was too small for me. The dealership gave me a hard time after I noticed some unacceptable flaws on the Elantra that I chose. Overall though, I love the 2004 Hyundai Elantras.

  • Best Car for the Money - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

I just said goodbye to my 97 Elantra and decided to go back with Hyundai. The new Elantra is big, more powerful and much more attractive. I got the GT Hatchback fully loaded for $14K. No ABS however. The leather (the real thing) is very nice, the purple/red dashboard illumination at night is very "cool". The sounds system is quite impressive for a car of this price. However i love that it can play MP3 CDs. No one can beat the warranty and you wont be able to find another car with Leather, Sunroof, impressive sounds systems, Alarm, power everything for the price. The ride is very quiet, even with the sunroof open on the highway.. VERY IMPRESSIVE!

  • Great little car, for a decent price! - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

I purchased my car brand new and itll be two years in May since Ive had it. I keep up with the maintenance so in return, my car has not let me down!! I take day trips on the weekends and the gas mileage is great. Smooth ride, good handling, and pretty comfortable (unless youre over 60" and sitting in the back-seat).

  • great car for a great price... - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Bought the car a year and 4 months ago. Havent had any problems other than the crappy Kenwood MP3 player - it never wanted to play mp3s. Im happy with the car though and I recently sent one to Europe. I havent had any mechanical problems and I would definitly recommend the car to anyone whos looking to buy a compact sedan. I have friends with Civics and Sentras and they are not any better yet theyre more expensive. The car is even roomier and better laid out inside. The GT is a great value but I think they should add a bigger engine if they wanna call it a "sporty."

  • Tight little car! - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Ive driven a lot of cars and used to work at a car dealership. The dollar/value ratio is outstanding and for the money, you cant go wrong. Im waiting for Hyundai to launch a small size pick up to compare with Toyota Tacoma. That would be cool.

I buy lots of cars and usually keep them only a year. The Elantra however, I plan on keeping for about 5 years due to the long warranty and my overall love for this car!
